We need more data. Please post details about quality and port speed without guns. By all means just take screenshots and show us. -
While I chew on it I should mention that I post everything I do on speeds in the discussion thread. The info in this thread is mostly outdated and will stay that way for the time being.

Bless you! I instinctively support this. Both because of instant PVP and the possibility to "grief" bot grinders. But there lies the rub... You might say the idea is too good! I fear it would cause unbearable pain for the PVE lovers, they would feel forced into the light. I also feel a tiny bit for those grinding rank; We just brainlessly clicked at bots while they would be forced into hard and drawn out PVP encounters that aren't XP/time efficient at all. I would love it though! Imagine just being able to sit in queue for a bit and then be dropped into a cage with a real person. Or go out in a fully pimped ship, tag a bot and hope a player drops into that empty shell. That would make sure the OW sailors dictate the fighting terms. For me the pros outweigh the cons.

Even with a spyglass the drops are completely unrealistic "immersion" eye-candy. Realism would have been a blur or de-focus like a Doris Day filter when drops are present. Let's not spend too many calories on frikkin' raindrops. -

I suggested this as a perk that wouldn't mess with the game, but nooooooooo, we got DD, pirate, coward and all that disruptive stuff instead.

Wood type, built-in and slap-on upgrades should work for OW speeds. Perks only work inside instances. Please let me know if I'm wrong

They'll get to that when they're done tweaking, balancing and implementing new UI. Patience... Why would it be useless? It will make any frigate a little bit faster no matter the build.

Maybe the perk speed bonus is added to base speed before upgrades, guns (and wood) modifiers? Maybe every calculation is based on base speed and then the sum of the modifiers is applied? That way you keep the stacking effect in check. I'm happy about it being in the .2 to .3 range.

That's a goal, for sure, but it's not easy to achieve. I think I've seen admin mention that people really use all kinds of perks. Not all players are powergaming NA or are min/maxing, and then you have the role playing aspect that many seem to be into. It's ok that us knuckleheads see "must haves" and "never use" perks when people ostensibly are off disregarding that and having fun according to their own standards. Two things though: If you... um... objectively have more and less useful perks you widen the gap between min/maxers and play4fun peeps. This is not necessarily a problem, though. Also, the data collected by the devs right now has a lot of noise because we can reset perks all day, e'ry day and just switch perk profile to any task we plan on doing. Maybe we are to get access to many officers and will be presented with a small grind wall to hire and perk up officers so we can do as we do now with officer juggling instead of perk resets. I kinda like the idea of prioritizing but the "content" and PVE guys often have a different ideal. We'll see...

As far as I know Rigging Quality is like lightweight ropes upgrade; Golden quality gives 20% boost to sails up, down and yard traverse. Planking is simply HP (and "resistance" to leaks?) Detailed speed data... Well, it may be more than you're asking for but read this, it will take you through most of what we know and many tweaks and changes.

It is destructive for lolPVP, but it is THE thing that preserves skill based PVP.
