Patch 22: Patrol BR limits, Grape fix and Planking mechanics improvements
jodgi replied to admin's topic in Patch notes
Most loners behave like this already, except me who has put aside many principles in order to make patrols work - at this point I'm willing to provide content to others at my own disadvantage. -
The state of your ship

If we get to see the hp of own masts, I think it's fair that the enemy can see if his mast shots are penetrating (enemy doesn't necessarily have to see his opponents mast hp). -
Patch 22: Patrol BR limits, Grape fix and Planking mechanics improvements

I'm "low" on outposts too. I still remember vividly the resistance to outposts and character teleports. The wargame dudes said it somehow ruins RvR when people can react to PvP "all over the map". I'm guilty of this. I'll do anything to make things easy for me. Back when we had to fight over iron ore drops and couldn't produce ourselves I just bought another copy of the game and went to the other end of the map and vacuumed virgin iron ports. We just sat on it as well, we just wanted to avoid a restriction that would have forced us to pve grind for cash to compete with contracts, that will just not do. My alts went dormant after they killed fine woods. I've fired my alts back up to provide cash with just a tiny amount of portclicking involved. With alts I can almost completely avoid pve while still having access to what little I need. It's a whole different situation with pvp. Easy fights get boring, so I'm constantly looking for a fight that will challenge my skills. -
I'm doing my part by playing the patrol mission according to admin's intention. I regard my ship as already sunk when I go in. I go in alone. I (try to) tag anything that moves and expect to be ganked by the "smart" players. I'm going to waste all my ships this way and then continue with shop ships or premium ships. I see players in frigates and smaller ships going in solo each time I'm there so there's still reason for me to keep at it. With repair and ship cost it could prove hyper expensive, tho. Come gank me, i won't mind.

I enjoyed the inception way of presenting this idea, I didn't mean to suggest it was unclear. Aces High has had this feature forever. Was great fun when I started, made for fun insta tour-de-force landgrabs (ganks in our terms). "Meaningful pvp" lost it's meaning to me and I focused on "The Fight" in the AH open map and the duel arena. I bet the "winning the war" dudes would love and use such a feature to bits. -
Do. Not. Mention. The. War. *snort* I just try to get with the program of keeping whatever ideas I have in the OW. The rooms were taken out deliberately. Maybe things have changed since? I dunno. I loved the duel room and I spent all my time there.

Something like this has been entertained as an idea.

Heh, I've explained this elsewhere... Giggles. We had perfect outlaw mechanics at one point. @Kaosruined that. He didn't use any "exploits", Rakers don't do that. You don't even need exploits. People don't like being killed over and over and over... All this long before King of Ganks was even a twinkle in his father's eye. Isn't this cute, tho... We don't agree but we agree. 😉

You could grind bots in the patrol zone if you feel PvP marks are worth it. Don't expect to get out alive but you will keep the reward. -
You think. heh, at least you're brutally honest. I'm not convinced this is sustainable as far as keeping people coming back is concerned. Could be, tho. Completely agree. It is for me. Maybe I'm not as short-bus special as people make me out to be? I think the same. They've already announced bringing tournaments back into NA, I'm sure that will include duels in addition to smaller skirmishes. Bitching and moaning won't stop it, so we will experience how popular or not it will be. I will be there.

This is a bitter pill. People are going to hold this over my head stating it as God's own truth. This is my life now... None of us were privy to the internal discussion they had concerning NA:L, we only know what admin told us. He hinted at two factors: The closed alpha player retention and the challenges posed by chasing two rabbits, as he put it. It didn't surprise me to see player count fall off steeply. People tried it out, liked it or not, and decided based on their experience if they intended to come back after the release wipe. I never intended to grind further than connie, then to play as online playerbase allowed and in any case try out new feature as they were up for testing. So even me, Legends' biggest fan, didn't play much and you could say I contributed to the decision to put Legends on hold. This is why some of us say the player retention test was "failed" or "rigged". Noone knows how well or badly NA:L would have fared after a proper Free To Play release. I think Legends would do so well it would spell trouble for OW, but it's speculation just as "Legends failed" is speculation. The other factor we can't do much about. This is ok. Arena play works for most players but not everyone. (I'm assuming we can agree on the fact that arena games are the most populated, by far) I completely agree. I so looked forward to this aspect during Sea Trials. For me it's still true but the cons far outweight the pros. Personal taste and opinion. I weigh the hunt and the chase 1/10 and quality pvp (ideally equal force and numbers) 10/1. Hmm... I've seen this before. Are you sure? I didn't participate much at all in OW activities but now I'm trying to make patrols work. It's still mostly a super-gank but at least noone is running. Now I'm there sailing the OW albeit in a limited capacity. Isn't that better than me just logging in, clicking out mats for Laik and Turpos, and logging out? Have you tried hunting the patrol ingress and egress? That is full-on sandbox stuff, no? My steam contact list is mostly made up by people who gave up. When we get more pieces of Legends features baked into OW many of those will return. Is it still a bad thing for you? The more the merrier, or? I'm more guilty than most of the polarization between the pure-pvp group and the sandbox crowd. I can not resist teasing. But aren't we better off accomodating both groups? I won't interfere with your ganks or your landgrab and you don't have to enter the silly walled garden inside the sandbox.

Patrol missions, ganking, line-ships and rewards
jodgi replied to jodgi's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Yes, it's been suggested to me that not enough people want to do PVE. Then there are complaints about profitability. So, PvE and eco causing trouble for people who have the inclination to do big RvR PvP battles... Well, look at that! -
I'm open... Clarify this for me. The zones are near ports. The whole server knows where the patrol traffic is happening. You have something else in mind that eludes me? This is maybe the most sensitive balance issue. We've done this for so long I can't help but conclude that if we allow escape we're back to speedsquads in weak fighting ships cherry picking easy targets and running away when challenged. Or?

Patrol missions, ganking, line-ships and rewards
jodgi replied to jodgi's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I don't have those rather excellent PvE mods and books. I'm forced to PvE for them, except I don't because it would kill my will to live. I've complained a lot about it, tho Much like you're complaining about the PvP exclusive stuff. Maybe I'm deluded to complain about any and all PvE when I click into the PvP server? But what about those that complain about PvP stuff after clicking into the same server? I would dare say that is a sandbox mentality more than a pure PvP thing. That goes both ways; There are many players who have quit and are on breaks due to PvP (quality) frustration. We still have room to improve the quality aspect of the patrols, but at least PvP is easy to find within a reasonable time frame. You seem maybe a little frustrated at this game accomodating Legends players (pure-PvP). Admin's intention is to bring more players into the OW as the patrol areas are in the OW. You're free to gank... screen for players going to and fro the circles while completely avoiding the terrible patrols themselves. Yet you complain... because these pure-PvP players don't play the game your way? -
Time for the ultimate insult yet again.
