  1. For most of them it's not really insidious. They came for the open world with "organic" pvp, as they often put it. Some of them protest against patrol zones because it's a fighting cage that doesn't adhere to the sandbox ideals. I can be a little less diplomatic, just like you. They say "organic pvp" but what they seek is to always keep the advantage and force loss on the other dude. You know the sandbox (REALISM!!) mantra of "If you find yourself in a fair fight you done funked up". I guess this is... ok for sandbox purists, but what puzzles me is they expect it to be sustainable as far as keeping new players. I don't think I've seen many of them admit to the issue, but they sure have some fixes ready, just some tiny little things the OW needs: Storyline PVE, MOAR PVE, deeper eco, MEANINGFUL eco. Look back at how long it took to develop eco and crafting up to the level that we're currently at. Now imagine how long it will take to develop their wishlist up to a point where they're happy about it.
  2. Ye, multiple reasons sometimes contradicting themselves, some of them mutually exclusive. I'm sure you meant those reasons you happen to subscribe to, right?
  3. It evens out to one bottle per 24 real hours spent at sea, or 160 days at sea. Very roughly.
  4. EVE has proven that it leads to less PvP and more PvE. Source
  5. Signed. Hey, Vasco, can you add tags to this? Admin asked us to tag suggestions.
  6. Ah, perceptive are you? "Hello fir/fir copper/carta 5/5 art of.../loodsman Bellonas!" "And fuck you normal people, in particular!"
  7. No, the point would be to move away from things you can lose, it may seem cool but it only leads to PvP timidness.
  8. Indeed. Ah, the joys of the sandbox and the "content" these guys crave. I doubt the loot hunting is the draw, but rather the advantage the stuff gives. Maybe it's not having an advantage any more, but simply being able to compete. Maybe new guys are saved by blissful ignorance? It takes a bit of time to understand how deep the book and mod rabbit hole goes
  9. Admin said that they consider bringing the officer system from Legends into OW.
  10. There are a few who don't have the rare books, but most vets have them all running with mods on top.
  11. Welcome to the club, Tom.
  12. I like the heart and intent behind this. Something like this may already be planned in the form of tournament. For OW purposes: Keep in mind they're planning on releasing a premium ship pack, depending on the implementation that may serve somewhat along the lines you're thinking. Also, redeemable ships could compete with premium ship pack to a certain extent. We'll see, I do love this, though: "Equal equipment" in OW is also iffy. During cerb week enough players would go out in bigger frigates to murder guys looking for competitive fights, as an example. You might need exclusive event areas for this to work as intended.
  13. I assumed it was more of a cpu cycle economization than a static DB thing. If this game was like EVE they could've done it, but these guys place more value on tracking fifty cannonballs fired from up to 50 ships. And bless them for it...
  14. As I recall that method was discarded in favour of what we have now because it's easier on the servers, it's a matter of optimization.
  15. You weren't exposed to abuse, that was poetic instant frikkin' karma.
  16. Do you now? I look at the patrol missions in their current form as a lesser evil than reinforcement zone "hunting".
  17. Profiles often change before release.
  18. Doubt that, but I truly have no idea.
  19. It's been in the game files for quite some time now. You can be sure it will come.
  20. We had this in the beginning along with ffa pirate mechanics. As I recall new guys found it confusing somehow and the griefing got out of hand.
  21. The zone should be set up for most of us, not the precious few. I won't quote history. Fun for the common man, if you will.
  22. I really, really miss Legends.

Don't you shrug me, mister! It's partly your fault too. ;)

      Brohug is what I need.

Aero, I know. That would've sorted itself out with open free2play release.

  23. <shrugs> You're not the boss of me. Except in sports. Yes, I approach this as a sport. Y'all can go win the war and enjoy lopsided ganks until the cows come home, I'm benevolent enough to grant you access to your fav type of content in 99% of the map. How can the (prolly less than) 1% of real-estate out of the entire map and the ROE within cause such controversy for those who want to stick to the 99% part? (not necessarily directed at Tex, think of it as a rhetorical question) I've done that plenty. Puchu, Tommy Shelby, Havelock, palatinose and others have done that plenty. I saw hachi on global today trying to set it up. It gets tiring trying to find suitable ships in relative proximity. admin has hinted at the tournaments from Legends will make it's appearance in OW some day, so many of us will be on that like flies on a turd. We don't expect that from the OW. We wish for it within that tiny circle, we don't want to force it on anyone, never! We don't wish to dictate how anyone plays, that would be rude.
  24. Ok, he does stream publicly so some attention is fair. I know this is the internet and everyone is an asshole, but we could move on now...
