  1. Steering back on course; the issue is not the cost but the stacking, bonuses + mods + books of the same type. Ports should not be building ships with every bonus anyway. The port owner should have to choose which ones to invest in but all the big ports have too many points.
  2. You can compare the fire resistance of different wood on the NA Map. https://na-map.netlify.com/
  3. Well the $30 one is only a pre-order price and does not get you in the closed beta. My guess is that the release price will be in the $40 range so it is a savings. Still debating whether to pick up the middle one and start playing. Steam sale so lots of other options out there, not to mention Naval Action of course!
  4. More realistic near term to do: Implement a Raid mechanic Fix Trading - bring back old weights for trade goods combined with reduction in reals reward for cargo delivery is best way IMO.
  5. This is very good news for me since I am about to start a build with a RX580 (8gb)! This will be with a Ryzen 5 2600 like the OP. My current potato rig is lucky to get 25 FPS in small battles lol.
  6. Have you searched You Tube? I think you may find some video guides including guides on how to beat the tutorial exams that have been recently posted.
  7. But GL front page still says Early Access. 🤔
  8. Very tempting to leave early - trying not to bolt for the door too early...….
  9. While the skirmishers are too close together. Having skirmishers as a separate unit type does also raise doctrinal issues given the changes during the time span of the game. Plus you have light infantry acting as skirmishers like jaegers and later you have skirmishers drawn from the light companies of line regiments. (For that you could have a button to detach them like UGCW).
  10. Thanks for posting. Now I can see the craziness of having ports able to produce multiple level 4 bonuses! Just having one level 4 combined with other mods certainly calls for a cap in addition to a nerf.
  11. I understood the release wipe to be everything but book knowledge. It is what triggered the recent forum "troubles" after all. I agree though it would be nice to have a final answer with details such as character recreation. There was at least one previous wipe where everything including characters was wiped.
  12. +1 They did say that the port specialization will be limited, less points per port, but I agree the highest levels should be nerfed.
  13. Ah but weather effects played a big role in the age of sail. It is a shame not to have it in game.
  14. Right I know the sources for threedecks - but as you noted the comment about the 32 lb carros did not list a source. I know it is out there somewhere and the RN did experiment with larger ships with main battery carronades (HMS Glatton for one).
  15. Very nice - I need to pick up this book! I see three decks also showing the 32 lb carronade armament in the notes, but I don't see any details on it. Do you know the source for it? I always assumed that HMS Surprise had the carro main battery in British service but that appears not to be the case or am I confusing ships here?
  16. Disguising your Surprise as a whaler may help. 😉
  17. No. On Monday we found an Elite 3rd Rate that only dropped 1400 dubs and a module (I forget which one, nothing special though).
  18. I was doing missions killing 3rd rates with a Christian (T/WO) and tried one just sailing broadside to broadside and came away with considerable damage (1/3 structure left). That's with 3 slots with reload bonuses poods and double shot. In theory a Christian should out DPS a 3rd rate without mods. The last one I did I noted the AI was an Admiral so maybe that effected the battle. They still seems to shoot at extreme angles as well.
  19. Judging by the voting so far looks like option B is the most popular. I would like to see Raids be separate content with more instant action rather than just a mini PB. There have been a lot of good suggestions as well as some concerns for exploits so far. @Wraith and @Barbarosa had some detailed suggestions for mechanics. I like the idea that a raid is picked up for a county and the port is not revealed until the raid is there and starting. Here are some considerations: · Raids should be limited to raiders like frigates and small line ships by BR or hard limit. (One concern is that a fleet responding after the battle is not restricted). · Raid missions should have limited availability to avoid spamming a county or nation. A port should have a cool down timer after a raid as well. · Raids should not be restricted by port timers. This is balanced by the defenders having many opportunities to intercept the raid and the lower cost of losing, ie; not losing the port. · Rewards should scale to port size and costs for the port owner not overly punitive, but enough for a response. · Raids should be PVP. The question is whether to have bots if no players show up to defend the raid. Would it be disappointing to have an empty battle with no players or bots? The raiders could come out and face a defending fleet while trying to get the loot back to homeport. Again lots of opportunity to defend and generate PVP. · Defenders should be anyone from that nation not just the owning clan or clan on the friends list. · Forts should be destructable. The goal for Raiding may be to degrade port defenses for a full PB later. But repairing a damaged fort should not be nearly as costly as building one!! I think we should test a PVP only version first and only add bots if necessary. PVE server gets bots ofc. Looking forward to patch.
  20. Yeah I just lost a long post on the raid mechanic because of this.😥
  21. I think changing the standard 100 weight unit for trade goods may help there. Some trade goods are not lucrative enough unless you have 3 Indiamen and trading with shallow ships is not worth it. Just take Passenger missions in your Lynx. I do like the cargo and passenger delivery missions as they add content but as you said trading should have better rewards.
  22. Yes 2% for Guacata and 3% for Almira I think. Also using the book for knowledge will survive the release wipe (unless that changes again).
