Forthcoming changes in the next testbed patch
DeRuyter replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
Okay I was not aware of that as it was not my experience. Maybe add an option to receive or ignore it as @Borch mentioned?-

Forthcoming changes in the next testbed patch
DeRuyter replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
Adding to these comments - I found the toxic chat mostly in PB and occasionally in a large OW battle, but most of the time I did have a nice chat with my opponent, GG and o7 and all that, especially in 1v1 battles. None of the global chat in NA comes close to the juvenile, toxic battle chat in WoT or WoWs! I generally don't have global open anyway, but if you must get rid of it please keep the PM feature!-

Forthcoming changes in the next testbed patch
DeRuyter replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
This ^^ At the very least there should be a message or animation showing that cargo is being dumped and it should take some time. Give the pursuer an option to pick up the cargo or continue the chase as well. Looking forward to jumping on testbed server at the end of next week.-

Exactly! I built BC ships without ever once sailing to Bermuda. @Sir Texas Sir I didn't mean to ignite a debate on LO vs. Mahogany in PB my point was aimed at non-RVR play (and screening). Clearly the PB meta was different on PVP1 and PVP2 which doesn't make one better than the other for that server. On pvp1 we had the luxury of 25 SH LO Aggies in a PB for example and both sides would show up that way for the most part, hence the need for that build. Your point on speed is well taken though. I need speed for my Mortar brig so Bermuda Cedar there. Anyway we shall see what happens on Global "soon".

Now that's a cruel one for all us historic tall ship fans!

So, I was wondering... What's next?
DeRuyter replied to Albert Sidney Johnston's topic in General Discussions
Lots of interest in the tabletop community in the ECW/TYW or Wars of Religion. Plus "Pike & Shot Campaigns" covered the tactical aspects quite well at the regimental level: http://www.slitherine.com/products/product.asp?gid=583 In the end though the numbers favor the Napoleonic wars. Certainly tackling a period not to far removed from the ACW would suit the game engine and maybe decrease development time. You hit the nail on head for the Napoleonic era though, whilst you don't have 15 different types of muskets, you do have a variety of unit types, cuirassier, lancers, dragoons, hussars, light infantry, rifle infantry, grenadiers, line infantry, sappers, guard, horse artillery, etc. Of course there's the uniforms... -
If they reposition the forts to cover more of the cap circles then the MB will be a must have in most PB. I think they already did that on the test server, not sure though.

Just before the announcement of the pending apocalypse I had a gold MG with British Refit built for me. Gold handbooks, Imp Mag, Monkeys and Mortar officer perk the thing reloaded faster than it aimed. Going to be harder to level up skill on MB now since you are really only using them in PB.

@ElricTheTwo: According to Admins numbers GB is the largest nation on PVP1 by a wide margin and the US is actually a small nation (at least according to recent log in numbers. So balance may depend on what the GB players do.

This. I thought PVP2 server was merging into PVP1 (Global) and new server was going to be the EU based server but I guess it is not clear. Back to whether the locations will change or if current pvp2 becomes the global server. I have only ever played on PVP1 (Germany) getting ping of 99-120 (generally higher at login than in game). I only have a lag problem during 25 v 25 lineship PB.

PvE vs PvP for the next Release
DeRuyter replied to Old_DAT's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
All good points but I'd like to add that the PVP angry teenager meme is not nearly as prevalent in NA as it may be in FPS shooter games for example or WoT for that matter. Have I seen instances of it in chat or in combat ("get rekt" etc) sure, but more often than not I see people saying have fun, good game etc. If you sail alone of course you may get caught by a squadron out hunting or you may get away. In my clan there are a number of people in the 40 plus range including several guys who are retired. People reminiscing about the beginnings of PC gaming in the late 1980s for example!! I am also a tabletop gamer which is all pvp all the time. So I think it is a misnomer that the pvp server in NA is populated by badly behaving kids. -
PvE vs PvP for the next Release
DeRuyter replied to Old_DAT's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Well this was during the flag PB system - so you had a limited time to plant the flag to start PB, but a fleet of bots tags the flag carrier creating problems. Aggressive AI should have remained in PVE as you note. I think some amount should be back at least for PVE zone. -
Ship wipe - coming soon!
DeRuyter replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
Admin did note somewhere that paints were being wiped along with ship redeemables and notes. I would assume that this means a chest containing a ship note as well since the whole ship data base is being changed.-

Regatta, Naval Action races
DeRuyter replied to Rebel Witch's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
You might want to specify the ships or classes to be used. Either everyone has the same ship or the same class - race of 4th rates for example. Similar to IRL yacht racing. Of course if you want a racing game using actual wind and weather there is this: http://www.virtualregatta.com/en -
Didn't the massive nerf only apply to melee combat in woods? (or other terrain). I was able to run down and kill or capture several skirmish units yesterday with melee cavalry in the open.

Chancellorsville Union - Too easy on Normal?
DeRuyter replied to Wandering1's topic in General Discussions
I find that too much knowledge of history can often be a detriment in a computer game . In particular games where the player builds the army and drives the force composition or most MMO for that matter. Unless you go straight historical oob, hardcore sim like the SoW series where couriers and limited pov take care of the 300ft general. I am still trying to work out the whole min-max thing. -
I moved my Steam install to an SSD running Win 10 from a HD running Win7 and lost my saved campaigns. I moved the entire appdata folder so I expected the saves to transfer over. Is there another location for the saved game files?

Is killing MODs such a good idea?
DeRuyter replied to Koltes's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Hmm I read Ink's post as they will be more like learning skills - like in WoWs or WoT. You learn skills on a specific ship to get the equivalent module effect. If they combine this with the shipbuilding changes proposed a while ago then it is new system. But I agree it would be less flexible than now with simply changing mods out.
