  1. In the same way we have nothing that forbids us to work for whomever we want. Can raid trade and sell all to a national trader for example. Can be funded with a neverending stream of new Privateers to keep attacking another nation shipping in raiding groups. Damn, we are enemy to the world. We are the only ones free from the shackles of Diplomacy and unwanted peace deals.
  2. The dumbness of that comparison only exists in truth when comparing the same strategic values for both, which they ain't and that is exactly where the basic gameplay of a nation and pirates must differ. Pirates would have no use for a SOL. Actually there is the mention of one two deck in the Caribbean under pirates and was anchored in front of Nassau as a fort when Hornigold took up to fortify the town ( at that time wasn't more than a mess of shacks and filth as smell could be felt at large ). There is, quoting a moderator, an ungodly amount of pirate threads and suggestions already. I bet the Devs can nitpick a dozen nice ideas to implemente and make the blackflag a unique and truly challenging option by default as opposite to a nation which can rise and lower the challenge as much as the Diplomacy warrants.
  3. That's the entire point I guess... ( admin is asking us to have faith !!! )
  4. I already pray to Pirate Jesus everytime I sail out of port, so I guess a new Perk of Religious can be added. +5% chance of a miracle Win button.
  5. Historical credibility is a strong point of Naval Action. No mistakes.
  6. Relations of Nations and Pirates are, as it was, on a individual to individual basis whether between two players or groups. As a history example one of the contacts for pirates to smuggle "cargo" prized along the West African coast was a well placed Gentleman and Businessman in New York, Frederick Philipse. Also it shouldn't be uncommon, as it wasn't back then, for Powers to ensure local support of "independents" in their wars. Even if we have no mechanics in place we can still work with the Nations but by all means do no drag the "nation" into it. There's no such thing.
  7. So, if I go through all the known rosters of crews from buccaneer, privateer and pirate ships you wouldn't even know what is historical ... Hell, even going through the HMS Victory rosters or any other well known and documented ship...
  8. Looking at your avatar and reading that is extremely... disturbing...
  9. Not yet. We need a hand from "the makers" Pirates, as stated in a global fashion rely on individual "republics" in a tribal fashion very unlike the authoritarian leadership displayed by... self proclaimed... individuals. But taking from the pirate collective, and hopefully this opens some folks minds to other playstyles or clan like gaming as a Pirate The Captain is elected and replaceable. His power rests on merit only. His power is controlled by the community. He is a peacemaker ( don't get confused here, it is not about love and kisses). He is generous with his possessions. He is a good orator. He is an able leader in war. ( suddenly I just crashed on the chair laughing extremely loud )
  10. While going through a few volumes of different levels of interest and focus I came across some of the recorded specialties of the collectives we name "Pirates" ( pretty much all the caribbean cuisine can be traced back to indigenous mixed with first buccaneer camps choice but ship crews had some specialties). Salmagundi Crackerhash ( pointed out as a resort in times of scarcity ) Rumfustian Sir Cloudesley ( called flip without the lemon ) There's also further mash ups of alcoholic beverages but notable is the "dry" pirates choice called bumboo being nothing more than lime, water and sugar.
  11. Of course. And it is of no surprise when discretion ceases to be the best part of valor. Everyone loves a good hanging. Whatever dreams of a "Libertalia" I welcome national efforts to put it down. At the same time other types of pirates do their own content, as rovers, as privateers and overall not giving a rats ass to what is happening to the "nation".
  12. Conquering Ports does nothing to diminish trade raiding 19 out of 20 trader ships I spot on the horizon is on its own. Yes brave navy captain, pirates are a menace to trade but you keep leaving them to our predations. ( not specifically Danish which I never engaged but National trade in general ) Thank you
  13. Yes they are...or are they ? Is a sloop of war a brig !? Have to send some emails to some authors though ... I thoroughly confused
  14. Not everyone plays the same ships. I challenge you to take a Pickle and try to interdict a trader with frigates escort, hell even with niagara sloops. But then it is easy to make the mistake of judging every player by our own standards I despise the skynet companions but have to play knowing they are present at all times. Pity that many prey goes unharmed though.
  15. Privateers should be developed, if at all, after Piracy is developed. And for it to really work we need a full reset, nation and assets, and start anew with new choices.
  16. It cannot be denied IMO, but it is the complete name and not the word that brings it to an acceptable choice. Same happens in ww2 air combat sims being Dick, as part of a name, quite a popular choice.
  17. Will go through the Portugal ports. There are a few which do not fall at all under this timeframe as being fully fledged and workable ports.
  18. Hence the multinational community management teams. Covers all.
  19. The freebooters, individualistic sea rovers living of plunder, as far as I could understand, shall not support nor fire a gun in anger in support of self nominated Princes of Pirates under a Lord which is neither a lord nor a pirate let alone a prince of thieves. Long gone are wars and many battles from another lives. The gallantry and bravery, testified by this captain, of the "viking" nations will overcome the rowdy manners and fictional heroism of the "US rebels pirate wannabes".
  20. The strict historical name can be overlooked but the non-sensical, especially the proto-sexualism colloquialisms and deformed alpha-numeric formats, should be reviewed whenever possible given we, the players, report/f11 them and justify why the out of order name.
  21. no idea, it might, needs testing
  22. Yes... and too many kings can ruin an army as we will see.
