Thank you. Will have a try Cheers

I have photos showing the details in full. However it states they are too large to post ! Only been taken with an iPad. Never had a problem before. Many thanks for help. Details below 👍

Today I can confirm in my second campaign I have defeated the Union. Despite the odds. All ranks of the army gave their all for the cause. My Corps commanders were outstanding. Robert E Lee, Thomas Jackson, A.P. Hill. All carried out my orders with great understanding and leadership. I cannot praise the men that served under them high enough.

Another victory for the Confederacy. The battle of Mansfield. Looking to really inflict heavy casualties on the Union. Capturing large numbers of weapons. Coming in very handy ! Continuing to take prisoners to exchange for extra recruits. So far so good. Keeping Union numbers down ! Onwards and upwards 🤞

I have just finished the Battle of Chickamauga. You were right. Very challenging ! But very enjoyable at the same time. Wow. It was like playing 5 small battles at the same time. Yet they were all linked. I was constantly going from one part to another part of the battle. Definitely needed to concentrate. I was worn out at the end ! Pleased to say I came out with a victory. Onwards and upwards 🤞

Hi, Thanks for the advice. I’m trying to loose as few troops as possible but trying to inflict as many casualties as poss. This keeps the Union numbers down. I always looked to take prisoners. Handy for obtaining an extra 1000 recruits. Also, pleased at the number of weapons I’m capturing. Have finished Gettysburg. The battle finished on day 2. I inflicted a total of 39498 casualties. My loses were 15439. I captured a number of goods. The highlight being 6930 Springfield M1861. I have just finished Siege of Jackson. I fielded 59109 against the Union’s 57784. Union losses were 39000 including 67 guns. My casualties were 15361. I also took 1629 prisoners which gave me an extra 1000 recruits. So will be moving on to Chickamauga. My strength will 65,926 including 96 guns. UG is brilliant. I’m playing it on Apple iMac. Very impressive ! Cheers

I’m a newbie. But agree with everything you have said 👍 Cheers 🍺

I leaned from my first campaign that to win you need to become proficient in Barracks. I feel confident on the battlefield. But I used my first campaign to learn all I could about how the Barracks works. It is now paying dividends. The battle may be won on the field. But the victory is won in the Barracks. I spend a long time in Barracks fine tuning my Corps for each battle I am about to fight. The different battles do require the Corps to be tweaked. I learned this I in my first campaign. Now into my second. The Union are suffering heavy casualties. Try also to take prisoners. This can result in an extra 1000 recruits. Very handy ! I have not been playing UG that long. But my knowledge of how to work when in the Barracks is responsible for most of my victory’s. In to my second 2nd campaign I remain undefeated. Inflicting high casualties on the enemy. This keeps their numbers down for future battles. Playing as the CSA this needs to be achieved. If not their numbers will be your downfall. I keep saying it. UG is superb. Although a ‘newbie’. I’m happy to offer any help to others. Perhaps to other ‘newbies’ I may have advice that the more experienced players no longer think of.

Hi Yes. Agree there. I didn’t expect to do to well in my first campaign. I did use it to learn how the Barrack’s worked. But still enjoyed it. I was pleased to have got to Gettysburg. But now. It’s a whole different ball game. Very enjoyable as was the first campaign. But nice to have so many troops ! I find it enjoyable when in Barracks. Sorting out my Corps. Weapons etc. UG is brilliant. Not just I’m now doing better. Always enjoyed it. Win or lose Cheers.

My second campaign is going very well. To give an idea. So far I have won every battle. Minor and main engagements. To give an idea I have just won Chancellorsville on day one. Followed by a simple victory at the church which follows on. I am trying to inflict as many casualties as possible to keep Union numbers down. Also to take prisoners to exchange for recruits. All this is only because I now understand how the Barracks works. I learned the hard way in my first campaign, when my army was pitiful. I enjoyed the small encounter at Brandy Station as this involved using Jeb Stuarts troops ! I will soon start to organise the 3 Corps required for Gettysburg. My forces will number just under seventy 71,000 plus 90 Guns. My Corps commanders are Robert E Lee, Thomas Jackson and A.P.Hill. Hill will not be required as only 3 Corps required. At the moment my rating is higher than his. My reputation is at 100, so I may spend and increase my forces. I do expect another Victory. Weapons are not a problem. I am capturing large numbers fron the Union. Over 7000 Harpers Ferry and even 9 20pdr Parrots plus 12pdr guns and other infantry weapons. I cannot stress enough all this is only possible because I now understand the Barracks. I have learned if you wish to succeed,it is so important to learn this part of the game. Onwards and upwards 🤞

Hi, I now understand the above. Thanks 👍. Went through a “sharp learning curve” in my first campaign when in Barrack’s. I’m seeing icons and understanding what they mean now ! That helps an awful lot. Now I seem to being doing something right (so far). I have reached and just passed Gaines’ Mill. I am able to field Brigades of 1500-2000. Makes all the difference. No concern as the top right of the screen depicts the number of Union troops available, along with their % of training and weapons. I have been “beating them with a stick” every battle. I’m taking prisoners which gives me extra recruits. But I’m also seeing how it keeps the Union army size down. In fact sometimes it’s going down after a battle ! This is so different from my first campaign. I know I have to stay on my toes. Still a long way to go. But at the moment loving the amount of Brigades I’m able to field. This UG ACW is awesome. Ok feels good when doing well. But still enjoyed my first campaign which was totally different and I did not quite do as well. Onwards and upwards. 🤞

Please see below. Which covers the start of my 2nd Campaign Cheers

Sorry guys. I have know idea why this has come up 🤔. This was posted on the 21 July. Which is when my 1st Campaign was stopped at Gettysburg.

A week now into my second Campaign. CSA BG level. Now I have learned how the Barracks works from lessons learned in my first Campaign I am optimistic I will go further. So far I have fought the minor battles prior to 1st Bull Run. No problem at all ! On to 1st Bull Run. My forces numbered 22516 and 27 guns. I was faced by 24414, including 654 Cavalry and 42 guns. Knowing my way around the Barracks was key in my Victory. Union loses were 18456 infantry, 28 guns and 451 Cavalry with 1729 missing. My loses were 7622, 6 guns. Also, I did not stop when the finish came at the top of the screen. The Union troops were taking a beaten and I was determined to drive home the advantage. When the battle did come to an end. The Union had 1 remains of a Brigade left. It number approx 200 men ! My reward was pleasing. I received an extra 1000 recruits in exchange for 1729 prisoners. Army Organization +1 Corps. A new General called Thomas Jackson. He comes highly regarded. We shall see ! All this is down to my understanding of the Barracks and the need to keep inflicting as many casualties on the Union as possible. Lessons learned the hard way in my first Campaign. Looking forward to the second Campaign which culminates in The Battle of Shiloh. Can’t wait !

I knew I was going to have to start a fresh for sometime now. But I’m pleased to have made it to Gettysburg. But despite my recent wins at Fredericksburg, Stones River and Chancellorsville. The battles took a heavy toll on my army. I’m left with just under 16000 men and 46 Guns. The nature of how the Gettysburg battle unfolds means I am unable to make any progress. But I have really enjoyed the challenge. Playing on the middle level - BG - as the CSA. My problems started early due to my lack of knowledge of how the Barracks worked. Looking to learn as I went along. Which led to my defeat. On the battlefield I feel I did well. Now with greater understanding of the game mechanics and especially the Barracks. I will be starting a fresh campaign. I will continue on the middle leve as the CSA and trust the experience I have gained through wins, draws and losses will help me. I feel I have an understanding of how the Barracks works. This should mean I can make it harder for the Union. I’m already looking forward to it. But for me this is still the best ACW computer game available. There May be some niggles in the game. I’m sure we would all like somethings changed. Thanks to all those in the creation of UG. Onwards and upwards 👍

Many thanks for posting. Very interesting. Cheers. -
Hi, Great to see another newbie. Welcome I started UG in April. Started by playing the historical battles to get an understanding of the games mechanics. After felt ok, I moved on to my first Campaign. CSA on middle level - BG. I was able to reach as far as Gettysburg. My downfall was not on the battlefield but in Barracks. This takes some getting use to. As I was told, it’s a sharpe leaning curve ! In the campaign I won battles. Lost and drew some. But I still found it really enjoyable. I found that I learned from losses as well as victory’s. To win the campaign you will need to understand how the Barracks works. Battles maybe won on the battlefield but the victories are won in Barracks. I learned a lot about the Barracks from my first campaign. I have just started my second campaign as CSA. On middle level -BG. The lessons learned in the Barracks from my first campaign are already helping me. Good luck

Hi, Thanks for post the above. Very impressive. Amazing to give such an insight into this terrible 4 year conflict in under half an hour. Much appricaiated.

I will. Thanks. Must admit it took me a few times, especially with my army size although that’s on BG level. But eventually I tried something different and it work ! Seems to be the case with a number of the battles. Cheers

Thanks for that. Glad I’m not the only one. But I do expect to go further with the experience gained Cheers 👍

Hi, Having just finished Chancellorsville as the CSA on BG level. I understand what you are saying. It’s even worse when this is followed by Salem Church without a return to Barracks. I was looking for a draw. The best could achieve with the size of my army. I managed it. Eventually. But your then sent straight into Salem Church. No return to Barracks.Ten brigades maximum are used. But chosen by the AL. After Chancellorsville some of my brigades were down to 150. The AL choose these. I had to face Union brigades of up to 2000. All the effort/time spent on Chancellorsville was lost in a skirmish. The only thing I could do was to hold my troops on the edge of the map and not contest this battle. Which saved me 3000 troops. But still had to take a big hit deduction in points ! So I settled for the points hit. Not best pleased. But for me despite the failures with UG. I still find it better than any other ACW have played. Being my first campaign I am not expecting to finish. More of a learning process of the Barracks system. This has caused me to now enter battles understrengh. But I know why and where I went wrong when first using the Barracks. So should mean My next campaign will be more successful. So despite its shortcomings. I will continue. But I totally understand where your coming from. Best wishes
