Typically when one can’t comprehend or come up with a better argument they choose to belittle the other persons passion with humor. It’s juvenile and beneath you. Tsk tsk Vernon. I know you’re smarter than that -

Because bait tactics never ever existed at all in the history of naval combat. Never .. nope. If it was the US coast they would be in the safe zone and have an hour to reinforce and sink 4 bellonas. We’ve used bait tactics successfully and unsuccessfully in US waters. I don’t mind losing ships larger than a prince. We also never used xebecs as bait targets. Everyone knows they can run and make poor traps. A slow lone third or 4th rate is more our speed. Your recollecting seems off. Good effort tho -

I've played with 10min timers, 30min signal timers and even outlaw battles. No I wasn't present during this mythical sea trials days where the game was 1000% better yet somehow it was changed and none of those cats still play anymore. Longer join timers are more fun and players need to be far more strategic in where they fought, knowing reinforcements could be on their way and impact the current battle at present. 2 mins is not even enough time for ships in your party to all join the same battle if they are within sight of each other. We were out in a mixed fleet last night hunting brits and in every single battle we had players left out that were not able to make it within 2 mins. Then again, I actually play this game and have to suffer the development choices a token few seem to consistently request, but never seem to be around long enough to test out. I also don't exclusively gank solo tbrigs in the shallows with 3 or 4 of my buddies all in princes. Players of your ilk and the "more immersion" crew like this game to be more hardcore and realistic. I'm not exactly sure what is realistic about a battle instance that closes 2 mins after it starts and no one can enter even if the battle drags on for hours and players magically pop out in the same spot despite sailing inside the battle for 2 hours..... VS a battle that players can join as they sail by and enter the fray, hence recreating in a sense real world battles where ships friendly or foe could enter an engagement well after the initial shots were fired. A 3-5 min timer with positional joining based on time where players join further away from the cross swords seems to be the most fair all around standard ROE imo. -

2 minute timer is terrible. It has reduced overall PVP in my opinion. I know quite a few people who’ve lost interest as a result, myself being one of them. What we’ve experienced over the past 2 weeks is simply a holiday break boost. Numbers will go down again soon. I would prefer a 5 min timer with ever increasing in distance positional joins. I didn’t love the 3 min timer, but it seems more fair than the 2 min. Some of the biggest and most enjoyable fights I have had were consequences of an increased join timer. -
I have suggested a number of times that we both agree to make LR 4th rates and under. More people can get in and get experienced. I think the US would benefit from this. To put it simply, you won't beat us in bigger ships. We don't care about LR, we just want the content and we're willing to let you guys get more of an even fight. 4th rates are more cost effective and in the case of lionshaft, he won't feel the need to bail on the battle after 2 broadsides to save his santi. As for what you did wrong in Part Deux: Essexes were used poorly. 1 should of been attached to the mortar brigs for security. Instead you pulled off a pavel and left 2 santi's to our entire fleet. 1 of our niagras was able to thwart both mortar brigs and neutralize them. Bring more bucs Use french rig Don't put lionshaft in your battles.

Little River Part Deux - Our 1 loss was due to the fireship explosion below. Poor iceberg then tried to board my 115 crew third rate and failed. Lionshaft then bailed on the fight and we chased him for a bit. zzzzzzzzz

Personally I'm in favor of the option where the 3 or 4 major nations of the Caribbean are more or less PVE or starter nations that do not RVR and instead act as catch alls and fillers for PVP, PVE and participate in server generated battles (aka trafalgar style stuff). Then introduce an "outlaw" faction where players who want to RVR and enjoy the sandbox life can join and enjoy the anything goes play style. The big 3/4 main nations can't take or lose territory, have dynamic safe zones and allow crafting/trading/whatever. Outlaw faction has clan vs clan based warfare. The problem with nations like GB / Spain / France is that 75%+ of the population never wants to do RVR and the entire population suffers from the steam roll effect, and then players flee the ship and join the steam roll....or quit.
-
Lets also not forget how many ports GB had lost back when Russia and Spain were taking them. No one seemed to give a shit when that tag team was going on. Just like no on gave a shit when Prussia was flipping multiple daytime pirate ports a day or when Russia was getting multi flipped several months ago. In my experience gamers will use whatever advantages that particular game allows them to, sometimes ones that aren't allowed, in order to win. Winning is all. NA allows rapid changing of territory, multi flips and other means that help a strong nation steam roll others. These features/mechanics might be helpful if this game had a population of 1500-2000 players, but when we're circling the drain at 300....the mechanics do more harm than good. Live by the multi flip, die by the multi flip.
-
Frankly I think the 3 “main” powers, GB / France / Spain, should be big and powerful in the Caribbean as it was IRL. Let’s not forget what position GB was in prior to havoc switching over. A strong GB with smaller nations constantly pecking at them feels right IMO. where this game fails is how it caters to the Zerg and allows stream rolling via the snowball effect. This is a mechanics / ROE issue. Triple flips suck and the game should perhaps not allow them. FYI. FENIX was disliked because they came over and started whining that evening pirate clans made peace with Prussia before they came over. FENIX wanted to do what they did in Spain, have other clans do the heavy lifting for them and take ports they wanted, and in our case..night flip them. They came over, whined and accomplished nothing. They had the numbers and organization to attack other nations, but decided that joining in lopsided patrol zone battles was more their speed. Adios

They showed up in force - had a BUNCH of screeners out there and forced us to join closer to the docks than we would of liked. They could of used this to their advantage, but did not. They waited while our MB killed their MB and then decided to engage us, but they did at least try for the brawl so I give them credit. They need to do more of these types of fights if they want to get better. Their usual 17 on 3 coast guard battles do not do them any favors.

Total BR in Portbattle
Christendom replied to HamBlower's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Having “tested” the mechanic several times, players can join and leave the battle for the first 10mins of the fight and the BR can be replaced. All joiners in the fight, even if they leave, will get lord protector status. This has been in effect for the better part of a year and reported many times. Just goes to show how absurdly sad the current PB/RVR system is. On the bright side, It’s good to see Graf back on the forums defending Russia again. Sup buddy! -

Good little scrap up at Little River tonight. Lionshaft commanding for the US fleet and myself for the Pirates. We had a little mishap with a dude getting tagged in his third rate and then had to scramble a replacement a couple mins in. Good MB duel there at the fort. Unfortunately they let us have the wind the entire time and we just herded them in and sunk one by one. Not really sure what their plan was, seems like they didn't have one.

I like this one https://www.fontspring.com/fonts/ihof/p22-operina $120 bucks seems like peanuts -
I still maintain cheap and easy ships is the way to go. If the DLC ships have taught us anything, people aren't afraid to lose ships....they're just to lose their time investments.

I'm not exactly sure it's the cost of doubloons that is preventing players from sailing out in the big boys, but merely the ease at they can be lost. Player X farms for a couple days to get the mats and dubs to make a Vic, goes out and can lose it in 15mins to a 4 on 1 gank. Rinse / repeat a couple times and Player X gets frustrated and goes back to Fortnight. Some might say that new players need to suck it up and this is a PVP game and they would be right, but there is something inherently wrong with the current system in game where ganking seems to not only thrive, but encouraged. Hostility missions heavily favor the defender and responses almost always result in ship loss and ganks. PVP Zones still are mostly lopsided battles. Even if players have a successful hostility mission and trigger the port, it's very easy to screen players out with the BR port battles. Everything in this game appears to be attuned to ganking in numbers and while most of us old dogs that are left have just accepted this style of play and even come to enjoy it, it's not conducive to new or casual players. What you end up with is what we're currently experiencing. Very low pop. I don't really have a solution, but it just seems NA is on this continual loop where we have a patch...players come back....they stay for a month or 2 and then fizzle out. Each time around the retention gets fewer and fewer. Will a 4th or 5th tweak to the RVR system fix this? Maybe. But for how long?

I'm kind of astonished that 3 player indiamen + 8 or 9 AI were not able to cluster around Rab and sink him. @Rabman let me guess, no cannons? Traders can be deadly in the right hands. Our very own @William Death knows this all too well.

3 min timers back. Thx Santa

I would, but I'm not really interested in playing war thunder or warships. I prefer to be with clans active in Naval Action. Appreciate the offer though.

In the span of the hour and a half our battle was being fought, the kills in that battle were the only news to be displayed on combat news. It's probable that were in the only PVP battle on the server during that time period. Rather sad I'd say. The battle was meh. 22v6 with their side having 4x our BR and we still made half their fleet pull off and leave the battle from damage or being demasted. We lost 3. I say we won that fight. We still ended up getting more doubloons for the evening sinking you 3x in a row. Let's keep in mind that this was at the edge of the reinforcement zone, within a 3-4 min sail from Saint Marys. A pirate port. It's not like we were camping CT for content here. I personally don't mind the safe zones, but I think the ROE in them is preposterous. 2 minute join timers while the other side can reinforce up to 30mins? Sounds like one of those ROVER ideas that admin coded into the game. The point of this post was to highlight the absurdity that is OW PVP in this game outside the Patrol Zones. If this is the game that admin has envisioned, it's pretty terrible.
