recruiting Red Banner Fleet [REDS] - War Server
Christendom replied to Anolytic's topic in Caribbean server guild recruitment
Could we perhaps have the idiots falsely accusing the wrong clan of exploits and the discussion about the #swerg and why no one likes the dutch elsewhere please? Like perhaps the other dozen or so topics in national news about it. Thanks! @Hethwill could we perhaps clean up the thread and kick out the dopes?- 409 replies

Port Battle System is Pathetic
Christendom replied to BadBenny's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Frankly the BR and clan mechanics are the best things that have happened to the PB system. Clan X pays for the port, they should decide who gets in. Smaller clans can compete with the larger ones. It's good all around. -
How to make players come back?
Christendom replied to Simon Cadete's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I've also been playing MMOs since the late 90s and used my dial up connection to first log into Ultima Online way back when. Sounds like you haven't been playing very successful MMOs. All the good ones have decent PVE systems that keep players in the game for the PVP people to hunt. UO, EVE, Everquest, WoW.....all had/have good PVE systems, whether it be crafting/raiding/farming...whatever, that keeps folks coming back to the game. More importantly, they had variety. The very best ones combine PVE with mundane tasks and make folks forget you're not out killing people. The problem with folks like you is you think that anything that isn't PVP oriented is carebear and anathema to how MMOs should be played. The best games offer multiple different play styles and doesn't force folks to play how they don't want. NA has yet to achieve that. Perhaps your friends are special, I dunno. PVP in naval action is still at it's core fundamentally the same. ROE changes, safe zones, wind profiles...whatever.. all have changed a couple of times, but the OW in this game still livesand breaths by it's population. It's a simple meta really, keep the sheep occupied so the wolves can hunt em. I've seen admin echo these sentiments multiple times now on the forum, but in practice the changes he keeps implementing seem to continually ruin the PVE experience in the game. I personally dislike most PVE aspects of MMOs, I like to either solo hunt or in small groups and spend hours being bored just for that occasional chance of a good gank. In NA I think I only have the aggie fully unlocked with slots. I hate grinding, I hate hostility missions, I hate hunting AI. Most of my skill books came from spares the clan had. BUT I do comprehend well enough how good MMOs function and it all revolves around fun and easy casual content. The rest takes care of itself. -

How to make players come back?
Christendom replied to Simon Cadete's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
The real problem is that other than grinding missions there really isn't any enjoyable or enthralling PVE content. This is an MMO, PVE content keeps the fans in the seats. No raids, no exploration missions, no delivery missions....just the same old boring sinking of AI. They kinda are getting the idea with increased loot and difficulty in epic events, but too little too late. Stale content = a stale game. People stop showing up. New ships is not content and that mindset is exactly why this game is not doing well. Happy PVE players make happy PVP players. It's all about that casual content- 73 replies

Bring back multiple durability
Christendom replied to Malachy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
honestly it's not the duras on the ships that is the problem here, it's just the scarcity of the mods. Copper plating - used to be craftable, now you must play to the RNG gods to get one or pay several mils to acquire. - stupid Bovin - required materials in a certain port/area. Carta Caulking - same as above, but ONLY in 1 port or random RNG drops. You need an alt or good friends/deep pockets to get Crooked hull - little easier, still only in certain areas. PVP mods - good luck getting pvp marks. At the start of the wipe the ships were 1 dura and difficult to craft. This drove folks away. Luckily that changed up a bit and ships/cannons are no longer an issue to lose. The mods however are a real pain in the ass to acquire if you are not fortunate enough to be in certain regions, have alts or deep pockets. It makes almost zero sense why mods were craftable back when ships had multiple duras, but now that ships don't the mods aren't craftable either. Keep ships single dura. Make more mods either craftable with more readily available resources (like carta tar can be purchased with combat marks) or make the mods be multi use and have a limited amount of charges. TLDR - you shouldn't need to equip a ship with serval millions of gold just to go fast. -
Require pvp to play on pvp server
Christendom replied to Malachy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
You’re doing it wrong then. I always find action down in Dane land or swedistan. Not necessarily the action I can always handle, but it’s there for those who are patient. stop expecting other players to play this game exactly how you play it. If you want instant gratification go hop on legends. -
Require pvp to play on pvp server
Christendom replied to Malachy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Sitting in safe zones and waiting on players to tag you is lazy pvp. It's no surprise you aren't gonna get good results. Go out and hunt, find some people to gank. If you want fair contests from players who only want PVP, go hop on legends. The beauty of the OW is people can play the game exactly how they want to. Maybe they want to fight you, maybe they don't. You can always gank them. You seem the blame the safezones for everything and I'll be the first to admit that they do need to be tweaked, but most MMOs have protections to help newer and PVE players, NA is not doing anything different. Most of the players that quit after the wipe quit before the safezones. More players would solve your and everyone else's problems with this game. -
Require pvp to play on pvp server
Christendom replied to Malachy's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
The problem is that unfortunately we have a map size meant for a game with a couple thousand players and it's only being filled by a couple hundred. Every aspect of the game is going to be hurt by a lack of players, PVP the hardest. To top everything off with a cherry, we now have another game by the same developer that is directly competing with a game that already has a very small population. I understand your frustration at not finding PVP, but if you think kicking PVE players off the server is a good idea.....you're an idiot. the simply fact remains that NA needs more players. -
Reinforcement Zones PVP1/2
Christendom replied to Pagan Pete's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Safe zones are necessary. To use @admin's own words....happy sheep = happy wolves. Noobs need a place to grind and level up. While I'll agree that the sizes of the zones and the fact that some nations have 2 zones (sometimes at different parts of the map) is a bit stupid, the real issue here is not the zones themselves, it's the fact that players don't really need to leave them. The game needs to develop a reason for folks to leave....PVP marks ain't doing it and the fact that AI fleets drop the good skill books now is a decent approach, but it was implemented after most players have the majority of what they need. In some regions player can harvest all the resources they need, even some of the premium woods, in their zones and craft ships without ever needed to leave at all. This needs to change. Players should only be able to craft with the basics in their zones, if they want the teak, live oak, white oak or even mahog, they need to cart it from other areas. Missions above a certain rank also need to not spawn in the safe zones. I don't really get the drama of people sitting outside of capitals looking for players to gank. This is a byproduct of servers that aren't full and PVP marks. When you have a map as big as our current one and only 600 players (on a good day) to fill it, hunting is going to be scarce. A hungry wolf isn't going to just randomly hunt in the woods, he's going to go where he knows he can find a sure thing. The PVP mark situation only increases the likely that any sort of PVP is going to be a gank. It's a lazy solution intended to get people out on the open water. I understand it's intent, but like I said...it's just lazy and ruins the game. There are other ways to achieve the same goal. Unfortunately we have a small population of people that enjoy playing this game and because of various reasons, they're spread out over 3 servers and now we have an entirely new game introduced by the developer that directly competes with NA and will draw even more players away from the OW. It is unfortunately a losing battle. Most of the issues that make up the daily whine on these forums are instantly solved by more people.- 125 replies

It was entertaining seeing you limp past our group with half your masts and almost sinking......for the 2nd time in a row at carta. They just like you I guess. -
Politics and PBs (Patch 11/12 - "Clan Wars")
Christendom replied to Teutonic's topic in Caribbean News
I don't think the brits actually expected us to defend both at the same time. Luckily we had to call in the banners, but we did. This was a kind of a troll fleet from them and while the tactic was interesting, it was a gimmick. They would of been better serviced by bringing in big boy ships and brawling. This was unfortunately how they went about battles while we were still brit and one of the reasons we switched. Sometimes you just gotta duke it out and their unwillingness to do so is continually why they lose fights. I miss the battles with more of the ARMED guys. -

Hotfix for patch 13. Le Gros Ventre Refit + Swivels!!!
Christendom replied to admin's topic in Patch notes
Outlaw battles were being used by pirate alts to start outlaw fights with pirate mains in the green zone and then the nationals would all pile in. King of Crowns in particular was doing this and admitted to it. See this tribunal. So instead of punishing the abuses of the mechanics it was deemed easier to just remove them all together. Frankly the only abuses I saw from pirate mechanics were national players with alts using them to their advantage. -

BLACK SATURDAY WAS A FAILURE FOR THE KING OF CROWNS ALLIANCE Carta PB - Pirates Win - Christendom leading. Unknown who was calling for the brits. The mortar brig strat was a little hairy, but we successfully sucked them into the channel and they of course had nowhere to go. -
FYI according to @Wraith and his server location data done a while ago, the US East coast would be the ideal location to serve the best ping to as many players as possible. Most oceanic players have shit ping to the EU server while on the flipside many EU based players would have a better ping to a US server than a lot of US players. For example a couple dutch players in my clan get better ping to global than I do....and I'm in florida. The would server option would however mean that the majority of players will have pings over 100.

Promoting more PVP
Christendom replied to sounthernrebel78's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
PVP doesn't need to be promoted. Giving PVE players a reason to leave capital areas does. Happy sheep, happy wolves. PVP marks is a lazy feature. Admin has addressed this somewhat with the increased drop rate by AI ships and epic events, but given how late it was introduced...not many people need all the mods anymore. Now if the new PVP mods and ship notes dropped from AI ships or epic events....that would get folks out there sailing around. Or create a special type of AI that has no clear pattern and randomly appears at places and people need to hunt it. Another thought would be to limit what resources are found in safe zones. Aka not everything you need to make all the ships. There's a litany of good ideas on the forums. They just need to be worked in. -
Server Merge Proposal
Christendom replied to Iroquois Confederacy's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
no you don't. Plenty of the smaller BR ports only need 10. 2400 BR pbs were fought on global the past couple of nights and it works out to exactly 9 wasa's and 1 surp. The point of the BR system is that you know what size your clan/group/nation is and you can attack a port based on what you can fill. It works. -

good thing we got a BR system. Needing 25 on for every battle is a thing of the past. PROGRESS
