Good to know you've enjoyed that beauty that the 74 is! I don't think that this is possible, as it looks like a levelling system, and Naval Action will not have levels, maybe it will pack player reputation I'm unsure.

Displaying enemy damage states
Oneironz replied to BrutishVulgarian's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Thanks for explaining the visual and voice idea more thoroughly! What you wrote is exactly what I was thinking! And the fact that it's not 100% numbers, some tricks can be applied, like changing colours, faking merchants, etc, it allows for more interesting game play and surprises -
Displaying enemy damage states
Oneironz replied to BrutishVulgarian's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
This is something that should be discussed! One thing that I don't want, is damage being displayed like in Potbs. There is simply too much information that it takes away the fun and thrill of trying to figure out, whether I should stop pounding the enemy and board or not. A very cool way to display damage, would be on the ship itself, if accurate cannonball holes could be displayed and the relevant rigging to be cut off, dynamically, there would be no need of an UI to display ship damage. If dynamic damage is something very advanced or resource heavy, use different textures to display damage, on the ship. And do something like DayZ, show little status messages like, "heavy flooding!" or "we're takin' water!" coupled with vocal warnings like in Silent Hunter 5. Start watching at 10 or 30 seconds, you'll notice a crew member shouting information. I would like to see a dynamic damage system, and not just an assortment of numbers and colours in an UI. -
Naval Action on Youtube
Oneironz replied to Thomas Blackwell's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Wow! The cannon muzzle flashes are simply amazing!!! The sounds were a little weak though, and the smoke disappeared rather quickly. I take it as an unoptimized engine, to get some good fps in-game. The models are absolutely... BRILLIANT! Seriously, no other game out there can match the quality of the models in Naval Action. The sails and flags behave quite strangely, probably because it is still too early. And daaaammmn, the waves and water interaction are quite good too! Great work devs!- 829 replies

Match Play - the first stage
Oneironz replied to Johny Reb's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Thanks for bringing up a thread regarding the current match system, afterall, the game only packs match plays anyways. Not an open world or how to connect both systems. I would absolutely love customizable fleets and the size of battle. Like Brigand said, not predefined numbers, such as 2v2 or 20v20, but something of the sort of Empire Total Wars. You can compose any fleet you wish, be it a line of 1st rates or schooners, or a mix. As long as the weight of broadsides or something else, is fair, like Brigand suggested. It would be hell of a fun race if there was a raging storm, trying to render us obsolete, but we would try to push forward as hard as possible, using the manual skipper to extract the best from the ship! Or a ship of the line battle during a storm, that does the trick aswell! Basically, anything that packs storms Please, don't make it boring like Potbs skirmish system. -
Launch options - Greenlight?
Oneironz replied to Crowgasm's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
You'll still be able to throw all the money you wish, if gamelabs don't put Naval Action, they can make a billing system for this website, like Star Citizen does. But I'm speculating here, as I don't know their plans. -
Launch options - Greenlight?
Oneironz replied to Crowgasm's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Steam's Greenlight will be pulled off. Despite the system being a great tool for Indie game developers, the fact that the market is being saturated with indie games is bad. As a very interesting game might be not easily accessed due to all the other, less interesting, games out there. Steam is thinking about giving more control to the developers, the way their game is publicized. Like a store for each studio. This is what I've found on the web so far. -

Ahhh I see! Well, if NA needs to be greenlit, the team will have support. -
Launch options - Greenlight?
Oneironz replied to Crowgasm's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
How so? You advertise Naval Action when ppl open Gettysburg? It's that not everyone visits this forum, as people buy the game on steam, then play it. I would like to see Naval Action integrated into Steam. It helps with billing for in game store, with updates and news. If you're after population, greenlight is best. for selected testers, something like the current system is fine. -
Launch options - Greenlight?
Oneironz replied to Crowgasm's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
I was wrong. Naval Action should be on steam early access later on, but not greenlight. Greenlight is for Beta, almost finished games. I mixed these two things up, my bad. -
Launch options - Greenlight?
Oneironz replied to Crowgasm's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
I have to disagree, there are several greenlit games such as DayZ (early alpha), War thunder, which still has a lot of content to be added. What else, Kerbal Program, Space Engineers....There are plenty of buggy and unfinished games in steam. -
Hmm I see, but like you said, a small cannon wont damage as much as a 42pdr would, at long distances.

Launch options - Greenlight?
Oneironz replied to Crowgasm's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Game Labs really should put Naval Action in steam Greenlight. Imagine how many players will try the game out if they see the news, showing a nice screenshot of the USS Constitution? I cannot imagine why wouldn't they... once NA is released that is. -
I really like what I've read! Great approach to various kinds of cannons and their specifications, the aiming mechanics, show some information, but the user still has to rely on his own accuracy, that needs skill! This is way, waaaay better than the cannon changes that are being implimented in Potbs, their idea is totally weird, relying on hard coded lines to control ranges... Not letting the cannons spcifications come into play, seriously, a 5 pdr can shoot almost as far as a 18pdr! Anyways, good thinking and execution! Looking forward to the changes.

Forum moderation and reporting

I agree with BungeeLemming! Answering new people's questions is the purpose of the "Questions to Developers" thread afterall. -
It's al right CJFlint I have learned what to do and what not to do in DayZ, my current character has been alive for a week already, travelled from Berezino to NEAF, took a stroll around Novy Sobor and the circling cities. Right now I'm at the coast again, in Elektro, to help bambis survive. Already had some good experiences including running for my life from a jealous noob that wanted my mosin, the guy knew how to zigzag so I couldn't shoot him with a Magnum xD dropped some food and water onto the ground and the pursuer stopped to take the food, like dogs around a slab of meat! One thing that I don't understand is the fact that it is so hard to make other people excited about DayZ, despite it being so fun. I guess a person has to try the game out to see how awesome DayZ is... See you around!

I agree with you!
