Patch 14: Part 1 experimental patch increasing realism in ship behavior

Doesn't matter if admin included red text about tuning, it's all balls to the wall with ulterior motives and pet peeves. -
Patch 14: Part 1 experimental patch increasing realism in ship behavior

Dude! This is the best and most fun part of the game! We always welcome improvements. Lighten up, you'll get an ulcer. -
Well, I care.

First, second and last sentence, sure. The little paragraph in the middle was face value. Hover mouse over your avatar. I argued your points to give some counterweight to opinions I think are poorly founded. Disregard it all you like. Point by point can be abused, I know. That was not my intention and I find that "form" to increase readability. Your mileage may vary, it's fine. I've changed my opinion on matters here on the forums after reading other people's input.

People who want a line of communication should avoid picking things apart especially when they don't know all the facts.

Whoa! ok, ok! I just had opinions about your opinion. Forgive me. I was referring to your forum birthdate. Maybe you lurked the forum before you made an account? In that case you should remember how player testing worked back then. +1 for the [blah blah blah] bit. Passive aggressive is underrated.

I've never seen a developer that works as close to their community as these guys. They can't hope to have time for every good or bad idea discussed wherever, whenever. I've yet to see a really good idea go "ignored" for long, tho. But nowhere near as arrogant, stupid and aggressive as the posts they react to. Would you rather have politicians' or press officer responses? I suspect you have unrealistic expectations. I came here a year before you did. Some of the player/tester posters had already racked up to 3-4000 posts before I came along, that should give you an indication. You sure play it fast and loose for someone who cares about the truth. Second quote is misinformation if I'm gonna be diplomatic about it. So you, a new guy, get to interact with admin and you turn that against him without possibly knowing the whole picture? misinformation again. Their open and clear communiction was a new smaller team for the new game. If you don't read what admin writes you can't blame it on them. <tired sigh> Thank you for your contribution.

Admin is constantly mentioning this and that in relation to upcoming priorities, changes, patches and hotfixes. His last such post was from today. Prove it more?! These guys spreading disinformation know what they're doing; It's simple internet-tough-guy scorched earth tactics. Some players are mad OW isn't exactly according to their specifications and they lash out. They wouldn't stop it even if admin made an in-game pop-up at login describing current development pushes and status. The few cases of misinformation aren't much of a problem.

I fully support this movement! Our bodies love sugar and fat, we can feel a craving and our brain is rewarding us with a dopamine hit when we eat it making it hard to stop. Should we eat so much of it even if we like the taste and how it makes us feel? *They* did an experiment with rats. When rats were given sugar or fat exclusively they stopped eating at *some* point. When rats were given fat and suger simultaneously, they ate until they were dead. Naval Action upgrades are what fat and sugar are to us; Enjoy in minimal quantities or parts of your body might get broken.

Wouldn't that be fantastic!? I mean, doesn't this offend you? -
Hotfix for patch 13. Le Gros Ventre Refit + Swivels!!!

This will dial back the (imo) excessive downwind rate of turn of the Agamemnon, all good. ________________________________ Aus der reihe: -
Last image is still relevant. I'm not laughing, it's not funny... hello kittying speed mods...

True. I should've clarified I'm only concerned with the new aga with this. -

For the ultimate turn RADIUS just follow @maturin's instructions on turning on the spot earlier in this topic. For turn rate depower doesn't seem to do much; early or late. Placebo or am I just doing it wrong? -

The depower comes way too early, but are you guys sure a perfectly timed depower increases rotation without taking away rudder effectiveness later due to loss of speed? -

Hotfix for patch 13. Le Gros Ventre Refit + Swivels!!!

Ooooh, this is exciting! I have many thoughts but mostly questions. I have prepared some vids for side-by-side comparison of turning and tacking, I'll get to that shortly. First I admit I have a weak understanding of what a "historical tack" and "heaving to" actually translated to in regards to how the crews manipulated the different parts of the rigging. I assume, but I'm not certain, that all sails, masts and yards are fully effective all time in game. We have no individual sheets of sail that are in the "wind shadow" of other sheets or objects (?). Example: If this was a low to no speed tack in reality the foremast courses would act mainly a drag along the same vector as the wind direction. Since the sheets are backed the airfoil behaviour would be very poor, but it would probably still retain some sideways force component helping the port rotation since the mast is ahead of the "center of force". (Arrgh, sheets really means some form of rope. I mean any piece of cloth hung on a ship to act a a sail.) Now, the main and mizzen sheets would find themselves in a mostly turbulent airflow and the result would be (somewhat reduced) drag along the same vector as the wind direction, mostly. My guess is that in the game all masts and corresponding yards with sails enjoy the full effect of the wind disregarding any object that is placed between them and the origin of the wind (meaning there is no turbulent airflow in the game). This is a biggie as far as reproducing historical handling of ships in game. There is some approximation of turbulent airflow already in the game as is apparent when all square riggers go faster at broad reach than when running. I assume this is sail force multiplied with the heading of the ship hull so it is "scripted" or "hard-coded" and not fully modelled. Next biggie is total lack of leeway for accessibility (good) reasons. We never deal with the real force vectors but only the (abstract) components of thrust and drag along the heading of the ship hull and the rotational force components defined from the center of mass or force. I'm a little weak on the proper terms of physics in english, you'll have to forgive me. I'm all for historical handling of our ships, but at the end of the day we need to end up with ships that are able to tack into the wind. -
Everything is easy for those who have learned it and practised. I wouldn't say demasting is easy when the other guy is flip flopping and grinding your hull.

How can that be done with upgrades for speed still in play? Does this mean...?

Hotfix for patch 13. Le Gros Ventre Refit + Swivels!!!

I'd get out my throttle quadrant and put foremast on throttle, main on prop and rudder on mixture. It might end up being a hassle but I'd love to try it out. -

You like it... baby?

I do not joke around with this. I could clarify that I mean MMO sim-like games. There are many other kinds of, probably, fantastic fighting games that just doesn't make it tingle between my legs. It's only me with my list.
