  1. Yeah certainly when you think of a kickstarter the backers usually get rewards that others don't get. I would hope that all the ships acquired by this method are available to everyone who has the game regardless of whether they backed it. Maybe give backers paint or a redeemable ship, etc.
  2. Yes - afaik still the only US tall ship with a sprit tops'l. Captain Hiott (RIP) experimented with the sail plan in our first several sailing seasons. He exchanged the sprit tops'l with the mizzen tops'l because the original was too large and unwieldy. The lateen mizzen is kind of a pain to shift - requires more crew than a spanker set up with a traveler for sure.
  3. It is about rebuilding the 3d model to the level of the newer models. Some people will pay extra for that, you don't have to.
  4. Well we'll just have to disagree on this one - spoken by someone who has had to douse the sprit tops'l and brace round the sprits'l during a tack and whose captain had the opposite opinion. Combine all the characteristics and she should be rather slow to tack. I would agree that the lateen mizzen can be used to help steer the ship in a number of ways - especially in an early 17th century ship with a high QD.
  5. Here is a crew loss example from PVP: Lineship PB - Victory with 850 crew (gold hammocks) - got raked (did successfully use brace once ) lost over 200 crew in battle. 630ish at the end. With doctor perk recovered almost to 750 - one Med medkit back to full (Commodore) crew.
  6. This goes along with a tutorial which could also explain these things and help new players. It could explain the crew system noting that after the basic 40-60 crew. Unfortunately a tutorial like this would be last on the priority list before release along with the revamped UI.
  7. Good points. This hits on another point about Wappen and the Inger for that matter. The turn should be tighter b/c shorter LWL but much slower also because of her outdated rig. Both Inger and Wappen still retain vestiges of 17th century ship rigs - both are more reliant on square sails for tacking, i.e.; the sprits'l and sprit tops'l. While they do have jibs and stays' they are rudimentary compared to a ship designed in the 1760's and later.
  8. This is a great idea to balance costs for lower ranks. Maybe even add landsmen for really cheap crew but they give penalties to reload/yard and sail management. That said I think the example is quite extreme - new players aren't going to solo a fleet mission. You can also try to minimize crew loss in the mission - an opposite example sailing; in Buc with one other player in Commodore fleet mission - only lost about 70 crew.
  9. While your crew idea is a good one I think it conflicts with the stated goal of allowing people to have no delay between battles. I think even if people are not sailing SoL they would worry too much about losing crew. Draught - +1 absolutely should be in game. You are probably familiar with some of the proposals for variable depth and draught in PB. Unfortunately afaik a complete terrain map and collision system has been ruled out for technical reasons. Also the devs worked on some kind of depth system for the new PB but said it was taking too long to implement. Keeping my hopes up that something even a simple system gets in game. My favorite example is Copenhagen where several British SoL ran around and they didn't even risk the 1st rates in the shoal waters. Another mechanism that should be in game: Variable winds and consequences of carrying too much sail. Set a floor so no one is becalmed or complaining about OW travel being too slow and go from there.
  10. Also on the US East coast and usually get about 120 ping. Sometimes I see 158ms ping on the loading screen but in game it can go down as low as 110ms. Only have lag in 25 v 25 PB especially SoL battles. I get lag spikes when people join battle as well. Hadn't thought about crafting but now that I think about it sometimes it is a long wait to finish the items once I hit the button.
  11. Maybe you and your friend can test it out on a PVP server - if you can join, then it is likely a bug related to PvE.
  12. Yes good idea. +1
  13. The safe answer is that they were built differently with different goals in mind. You could say as a general proposition that French ships were usually more lightly build and often faster or more maneuverable, but not always. Take frigates for example. The British had to consider a design that could stay at sea for 6 months and retained certain sea keeping qualities, especially in rough seas. I read a British account of a captured French frigate that she pitched badly and shipped water over the bow in moderate seas for example. Having said that the British often copied the lines of captured French ships and developed classes of their own based on the French design.
  14. Kind of curious if there was an instance of a formed cavalry charge, sabers drawn, against formed infantry in the ACW, successful or unsuccessful? Talking about a large formation of course like a regiment at least. They were certainly trained to charge with cold steel - but I thought that was cavalry vs cavalry skirmishes.

    Battles

I would hope they add an editor so that we can have player created battles.
  16. Also masts were usually constructed in four sections and bound together. This was to help strength the mast against partial strikes as seen in your diagram.
  17. Alright great so even with the ability to TP all over the map you still can't find a fight? Now I am even more at a loss why you have trouble finding battles. With an outpost at Shroud Cay or La Navasse you could sail 5 minutes to the PVP event circle for a fight, which you should find with 300 online. Yesterday 2 of my friends fought 10 pvp battles in an evening (2 hours) of gaming in the Windward islands , not too far from the Danish capitol I might add. 1. Countless threads on this - you jump in to help your friends but it turns out they were ambushed by players waiting in port, your nice battle is 3 v10 gank. 2. Not really, informal alliances were made by players before the game mechanics were implemented. 3. ships are still cheap because of money inflation but this is a different issue - open battles won't help here. 4. yes that was good and right after EA release of course. Many of those 2000 spent time grinding AI anyway. All this gets back to my earlier point which is that based on all your postings it appears that you want instant battles and don't care for any of the trading/crafting/sailing. Hence the World of Sailing Warships is your game, just hit the battle button and enter the queue and spawn right in to the battle.
  18. The problem with WvH is that the plans come from a model which may not even be the WvH ! One of the documents linked in the other thread is a scholarly article disputing the provenance of the model in the Hamburg Historical Museum. The ship was designed for max. 60 guns and was armed by Hamburg with 52. I guess you could justify arming the entire LD with 18 lb guns though - so 22 x 18lb LD, 26x9s UD, and 4 x 4lb or 18 lb carros QD/FC = broadside wgt of 323/351. Still considerably less than the ship in game. On the turn rate I think it is the whole picture, more than just the L/W ratio. Maybe in game it translates to being slow, but that should be slow to tack and slow to accelerate out of a tack as well. Not only did hull forms change over time but rigging became more efficient as well. Back to the problem of integrating ships in a 100+ year time period. Having said all this I understand that devs want a really nice German ship for one of the largest playerbases in the game and as Snoopy noted it is good to have a variety of ships ppl want to sail. We should be able to have ships that offer variety without resorting to an unreasonable amount of balancing which results in a historical anomaly.
  19. You didn't answer my question: Have you set up outposts in other areas of the map?
  20. I have noticed a couple of discrepancies with this ship, which is a beautiful model btw! In game she is classed as a 4th rate with 68 guns. According to 3 decks she should have only 52-60 guns LD 6 x 18lb, 16 x 12lb, UD 26 x 8lb, QD/FC 4 x3lb. That is based on this German wiki: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wapen_von_Hamburg_(1722 BungeeLemming noted in the WvH thread that she was armed not as a warship but as a convoy escort which is what she was. The choice of carronades on the QD is also out of period for this ship. She also seems to have a high turn rate for this type of ship suggesting she is more maneuverable then all but the light frigates. Not sure that her older hull design should provided that much maneuverability. Is the extra armament in game a balancer so she can fight an Agamemnon, etc.? Thoughts?
  21. Have you considered that the Danish capitol may be a quiet area of the map? How long did you sail? Have you even sailed to other areas of the map and set up outposts? Lots of PVP players have tried giving you advice to get PVP battles but you appear to have ignored it. Set up an outpost at La Navasse and sail 5 minutes north for the start of a PvP event in EU prime time when there are 300 ppl online and you'll get battles.
  22. One thing to keep in mind is that Game Labs is a small team and putting out large and detailed road maps takes development time! Just got the game over the holidays and I like the way it plays so far. For an EA game the in game manual is quite nice and I feel the interface is improved over UGG. It is a nice break from the MMO craziness of Naval Action UG: Napoleonic Wars next please! (kidding, ok maybe not....)
  23. I don't know what you mean by Labor office, but you can only construct production buildings for the raw materials that port produces. No need for a shipyard anymore, since the regional build bonuses were introduced.
  24. There you go again contradicting yourself again - fixed. Let's see, helping friends and nation - hmm - we just had a 25 v 25 port battle Thursday at 8:30 pm EST off the Florida Keys. This included multiple battles outside the port in case you don't like port battles. Lots of nations around to fight with and all at a scheduled time - what could be easier than that! Then there's the PVP events again at a scheduled time you can help your friends in battle! But I forgot you don't play anymore...
  25. No let me fix this for you: We have an open world sandbox MMO. You are looking for an arena game with an arcade combat model, aka WoW or WoT. Naval Action is not your type of game it is not THAT complicated. BTW maybe you don't realize there are PVP events 4x daily in different areas of the map to join and find players to fight?
