Transat - On-Line Atlantic Racing (with the real weather systems)
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to ObiQuiet's topic in Tavern
I monitor off and on. Most often, I check right after the wind updates every 12 hours and make course corrections as necessary. At least twice I day I look at forecasts up to 7 days out and pre-plan the rough positioning I'd like to be in. Maturin - what is your name there? I'd love to add you as a friend. -
Mr. Reb is entirely correct. Admin has been discussing this very change long before the "duping" thread was created, and long before duping was even a thing. In point of fact, requiring success in smaller ships against same-larger targets is key to preventing fail to the top or guaranteed win grinding to advance. As with Sea Trials, it also allows the gathering of more data for particular ship types that may be underserved at the moment (and yes, the fact that they're underserved does indeed concern me and has been the key point in quite a few of my posts). The advancement change wasn't a punishment, it was simply the implementation of an idea Admin has had for months now. Our job is to test it, and provide constructive feedback in the proper thread so that it can be adequately evaluated and, if necessary, tuned. Thank you.

Transat - On-Line Atlantic Racing (with the real weather systems)
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to ObiQuiet's topic in Tavern
Day 7: I took advantage of a slot of nice wind just to the East of the Azores, avoiding a large mess over near the European coast. The leaderboard has swapped places, with the ships that took an initial northwesterly course now running in the lead. Their location to the westward of me has given them a slightly more advantageous wind direction (I have a little more wind to work with, but it's more out of the north than I'd like, which is negatively impacting the course I'd like to sail). I'm currently planning to pass just west of the Cape Verde islands, at which point I'll start looking for a slick way to start working westward towards the South American coast and the finish line. I'm currently nestled in with a wave of front runners in 2,860th place (out of around 24,000). The race leaders are still about 300 miles southwest of me (you can just see a blob of gold color in the bottom bar of the image below - that's the current lead race group). -

Please drop the attitude sir. Software Development is an extremely complex science, and 99% of the players are logging in and playing just fine. You are testing the game, and in order to fix your problem, the developers need more information than "it doesn't work". 30 people saying "it doesn't work" doesn't do a bit of good in solving the problem. Submitting a crash report via Steam provides a wealth of information that can be used to replicate the problem. Once the problem is replicatable, it can be solved. Submit a crash report via the correct mechanism so that your problem can be fixed faster. Thank you. -

Wind posted a good link to continue this conversation. Let's move it over there. Thanks! -
Are there any additional details? Are you in a clan? Have you changed anything else on the character since the patch went in?

Transat - On-Line Atlantic Racing (with the real weather systems)
Henry d'Esterre Darby replied to ObiQuiet's topic in Tavern
They still don't have waypoints or auto-helm unless you want to pay them money per race for an upgrade - so I'm currently managing the boat entirely manually. At least the purchased sails don't offer more than a half-knot of speed benefit than the free ones, so it's not totally pay to win, but it's close. That's ok, I don't plan to win any races, I just want the challenge of course planning and sailing tactics. No worries on the late notification - I'd never have known it was there if you hadn't posted. I'll be starting another boat in Leg 3 of the Clipper Round the World Saturday morning. -

I started two days late, there is a "Pilot Boat" that effectively travels the great circle route at a speed that is generally behind the leaders and you start at the pilot boat's location. My starting point was in 8500th place (out of around 23,000 boats I think), and I found myself near the French coastline. A quick check of the weather showed that I wanted to head westward as fast as I could to attempt to catch the back side of a large low spinning through on its way towards France. I immediately set a westerly course, following some other well-ranked boats with the same idea. Unfortunately, my late start left me caught briefly in the eye of that low, with contrary and variable winds, and after Day 3 of the race had fallen to 13,350th place. Despite my encounter with the eye, I was able to finally set a southerly course designed to catch another low forecast to come through. The first low, meanwhile, failed miserably to affect the boats that had set a straight southerly course (and that were in the lead after Day 1-3). At the end of Day 4, I'd risen to 9,000th place, and decided I was in good shape to pass the Azores to the east, which should leave me in good position to catch good wind for a few days yet. Just now, I'm up to 8,131st place, and appear to be gaining ground in the rankings with each update. I'm currently about 305 nautical miles behind the first place boat, which is a bit south of the east side of the Azores at the moment, but I'm hopeful the wind forecasts that show my having a better wind angle for the next thousand miles will hold and allow me to close that gap a bit. I'll attach an image of my route to date: -

I popped in there as Triptyx in a Multi-50. Should be fun. Feel free to add me as a friend at their site if you're racing. -

That's actually really good information. Please F11 the next time you're in and give the date/time that this happened so that the Developers can look into it. Thank you! -
Grammar - advice needed

0/5 kills in LynxI think that's the clearest out of the three myself, unless you want to put: 0/5 kills while sailing Lynx (which is getting a little long, but would more clearly state the requirement) -

Please remember that this is solely on Steam. Naval Action can not control Steam's login system being so....well....bad. Please send all your hate mail to Steam to encourage them to get such a mission critical system working more reliably. -
Please keep topics limited to things which are roughly associated with the Age of Sail, or that will be useful to a large portion of the community. "Flooding" the Tavern will NOT be tolerated. Thank you.

Making forums a better place

Warnings allow moderators to log action taken against an individual. They are generally given when a poster violates the rules more than once. A rule violation or two is usually just hidden, but if you become someone who is a common name amongst the staff as someone who violates the rules, you'll find your grace period begins to run out. There is a post in News and Announcements that list the rules for the game and forums. I'll link it here so everyone can go refresh themselves on the rules for the game/posting in the forums (you can see the whole post by clicking the little arrow in the upper right corner of the quote. Part of that post has the warnings and how they work: Now be aware, the above is really a guideline. If I hop on to take a look around the forums and someone is happily posting the same message on every thread they can load, I'm not going to bother with a verbal-only warning, I'll give them a warning point and attach repercussions to it. We can put them in pre-moderation (a super moderator such as Admin or a Developer must approve any post they make before it becomes visible on the forums), remove their ability to create new posts/threads (either on a countdown timer, e.g. 1 day, or permanently), which still allows them to PM, or we can suspend the account (again, either on a timer or permanently). Account suspensions that happen before enough warning points are accrued are generally limited to people who, after getting their ability to post removed, then turn to abusing the PM system instead. Hope that answers your questions sir. -

Abusive Language - e.g. direct insults against another Captain are not permitted, unless they use the approved list of terms (see the top of this forum, or http://wiredstar.com/NAInsults). Any chat-related reports must be made by right clicking the person's name in chat, and reporting them from there. Language/Abuse related reports are no longer a Tribunal affair. I'm going to close this, I'd suggest y'all use the "Ignore" function from now on if you can't place nicely together please.

What I thought he meant is to mix up the larger fleets a bit. Instead of 5 74s, have a 74, 3 frigates, and 2 Surprise for example. -
The [ and ] keys were really used if you needed to quickly get a broadside off at neutral elevation. I've only used it a couple times, usually when crossing the T between two ships that are both extremely close together to try and get a quick rake off. To fire a normal, aimed broadside, enter aiming mode on a particular side, and use your left mouse button. It's really just commanding all the guns to fire without having to press the space bar to fire each one individually. Did that answer your question?

Thank you Mr. Holman. Mr. Boblles, send an email to the address listed on the Game's web site (info). Tell them why you think you'd be a valuable addition to the testing team (and we're testing, not playing). I'd use the best grammar and spelling you can. If they think you'd be a good addition, you'll get an email with more information. Best of luck sir! Good hunting.
