  1. the thing about rats is that they can gnaw through concrete with ease. fascinating
  2. Will actually open a thread on History soon, there's a lot of cross info and with good reason. Pirates are a complicated assortment of everything. The strong common thing is there was no ruling Power.
  3. Pirates-of-the-line We were raiding around Jamaica already counting 3 surrendered traders when we came upon a gathering storm between some Pirate clan and the Royal Navy boys. We decided to assess the situation to break the routine. Felt a bit "sad" due to the BR difference but RN had enough ships around that refused to join and help so... nothing to point out. the Longest Day We were chased by a highly spirited Royal Navy frigate captain. It gave way to the longest day. Sadly we couldn't repeat the spectacular captures we did up in Florida. A big salute to the RN captain. Pirates ye be warned! After being interdicted by a hell of a loudmouth player with interesting choices of vocabulary I was shortly after interdicted by another US coast guard captain. Some thoughts and I decided to take up the challenge for a 1v1. After a great battle the crew finally voted for making it safe and abandon ship. We jump off board and swim to the shore and disappear into the jungle and make our way back to Sunbury on foot... Salute to the US captain, awesome fun battle.
  4. ??? You can do as you please already. Unless I am missing something... I know I always did whatever I wanted back in the Orange Country. Hell I know I do it now in the Black ghetto. Beauty of open world open end open sand box to build your own game.
  5. Hethwill Eskeath is a fictional historical name hailing from long years of tabletop wargaming. Has a full career well documented on our club and rose through the ranks of lead, white metal and buckets of die. Go figure
  6. Fair enough Wilson, I can see the others point of view hence living up with it and "sucking" it up. Still, as Powderhorn posts, there's room for improvement. But then I am a dastard. I like to imagine a pirate not being a farmer, not owning a mine, etc... ( oops, OT again )
  7. Will store what I can in my ship. Leave the rest.
  8. For the sake of sanity and clear information for newcomers to the game it is imperative that all posts establish a clear language that differentiates the group ( clan tag) from the faction. They are not representative of the jolly roger as a whole. They are not leaders of anything but their own clan. Anything they do might or not be supported by the confederation of pirate captains and clans. I understand it is easier just to say pirates but the big issue is that you create too much attention and focus on pirates on behalf of one group and that is not even remotely honest to all the NA community. Now if the "toxicity" would be reduced to bearable minimums all this scenarios could benefit everyone but it is my judgement that it did go beyond the point of no return. Please keep the proper clan tag instead of the word pirates. Please.
  9. Yeah Attention this is not duel rules, it is small battles rules so losses are real.
  10. I am up for "very drastic" testing phases to be honest. I mean, why not and I really hope we can test sooner than later a true hard hard hardest pirate option. After all for many playstyles it is just a matter of color and "social" issues ( which many do have given their reputation ).
  11. Outposts in MT + 7 free ports speak for itself regarding pirate havens for me. Lots of liberty but no access to production. Perfectly acceptable. Would even be more acceptable if the nationals were submited to 1 ship rule in free ports.
  12. Jumping a poor sod dutchie on its own with a fleet after declining a brawl with a swedish fleet seems very much to term with "our way or the highway". Laughable. ( he got what he deserves though, but that's beyond the point ) At least the [E] cruiser-boyz had the decency to go in a pair shadowing in between the swedish towns, but hey to each its own. Same with another squadron which was fleet sweeping. Didn't see them port sniping. Very little to brag about and screenshots do not show the whole truth, just propaganda
  13. I hope you mean Powers national warships... and not the arhem... lone-ship republicans of the freebooters collective
  14. Creating the need and actually putting into practice are different things as you surely know. I am sure you are educated enough to dig deeper to what is behind a single line. As an example let's say one of the heaviest laden convoys was escorted by two frigates dettached from Pellew's squadron while he was posted in blockade duty along brittany coast. Two frigates for six trader ships, and that's because the cargo was "state sanctioned" albeit being hauled by private company. The same way a treasure fleet from the spanish crown was escorted by two frigates. Was assaulted by RN but during the night they managed to transfer the cargo to smaller ships that came from Cadiz and thus foiling the pursuers intentions. The RN did not force a blockade on many french privateer ports just because they were ineffective. In truth it was the only way they could effectively give the traders a "sense of something was being done". Numbers of prizes falling into french hands speak by themselves, the same as french trade numbers jumped by Brittish also account to support it. It is a game and there's enough NPC fleets around to provide shelter to a trader and they actually get spawned automatically by player presence in the area so they are almost always there. The mechanic is here and it is used. Fine, okay, I understand, I have to play the game knowing it is in game, but I do not like it. I simply cannot find a strong reason for them to be in game without unbalancing a whole OW collection of gameplay. It is simply a gimmick for "single players" that populate a multi player game. But then when they are jumped by a true fleet of players, 3 v 3 in truth, they cry gank... well... #nofleets
  15. 30 million is quite a hefty sum and in hard cash is well over the accumulated proceedings of a long raiding campaign by some 12 million take it !!!!!
  16. No attacks FROM that zone should be okay. Attacks INTO anyone in the zone should be okay. Would do the trick without compromising the gameplay.
  17. This is spectacular. On top of being a great tournament tool it will be an great and most excellent training tool. Many many thanks.
  18. Personally I agree. Let's see what all Judges decide. Gr3y, better have both outposts at hand. Management of your team ships is up to you. Teleport of ships is easy nowadays with cutters and smuggler flag. Also remember that matches are to be setup together with the opponent team and the judges. Upgrades and boarding are part of the game so yeah Groups is the first phase, similar to a Worldcup, and accumulation of points. Group leaders, 1st and 2nd, then move onwards to the knock out phase until the end.
  19. Ships did sail the seas alone especially in the Caribbean. Sometimes they would group for mutual support. Sanctioned convoys usually laden with heavy treasure of metals or other luxury items usually had two appointed cruisers, plenty of reports regarding that. Traders wouldn't benefit from a Post squadron of their own. Post squadrons would focus on attacking the raiders, usually at their havens, and not babysitting the traders. ( ie. Madagascar ) Post Captain rank required a display of gallantry and courage against the odds during times of war and not by farming missions. More players than I would dare to say would never get a Post. I have came across many player traders which have the decency to use the NPCs that populate the world and find safety by sailing with them. I learn to live with them skynet convoys but still I stand with Pete and many others #nofleets.
  20. Agreed. Still do not like the change but I do accept both devs and the community reasoning towards it.
  21. You are not reading. I didn't say for a moment no SOLs for pirates, I just pointed out that without any strategic aims that warrant the use of SOLs... what would be the use for them ?! ( supposing Pirate option would get changed that is ) What do you need a ship of the line for IF you wouldn't own ports nor infrastructure to defend and be dedicated to raiding of shipping and towns ? What would be the cost of each man in the crew in a ship of the line ? Equal shares of proceedings, in coin, for each man.
  22. Do it ! Videos are awesome but there's something about written word that no other media can cover. Reader's imagination.
  23. Sure I am. I am also thinking about a Pirate gameplay reform without concerns of Ports, without any attachment to farms, mines and anything other than making coin and spending it while gaining infamy until caught and string up in some God forsaken backwater.
