  1. Been thinking. I may have one more attempt at 2nd Bullrun. Could really do with the troops a victory would give me šŸ¤ž
  2. How about the front page of a newspaper. Giving details of how the war was progressing. Including our own progress. Good or bad. Be able to print off. So would have a record of the war.
  3. Hi, Thanks for that advice. I tried to defend the wooded area. But still no luck. I held on at first. Counting down till my reinforcements started to arrive. But they arrived on the map just as the area became ā€œcontestedā€. I had them running to me. But with what I had left, as soon as a unit routed I lost. Before my reinforcements arrived. I have ā€˜savedā€™ it. So hope to return to it and try my luck again. Having retired from the battle to the Barracks I was pleased to see my troops intact. I was able to increase/strengthening them. I moved on and carried at the engagement at Chantilly. It proved to be reasonable easy to defend. I won it without having to ā€˜workā€™ to hard. So back in Barracks to increase my numbers. There is one more small engagement to fight. But looming after that is Antietam šŸ˜•. Will see how that goes ! But will check out the videos you mentioned. Thanks for that. Appreciate your help. Best wishes.
  4. Have now started my first Campaign as CSA. Won some. Lost some. I did have a problem at 2nd Bull Run. I could not see anyway to obtain a draw. Let alone a win ! My force just too small. Approximately 20,000. I thought this did not seem right being forced to fight ! I am trying to progress without any tips. Trying to learn as I go along. But being forced to fight, made me decide to check out the tips for new players. So glad I did. Simples! Donā€™t have to fight every battle, just retire from the field. Lose the battle but save my troops and back to Barrackā€™s to enlarge my force. Great info from Tips for newcomers. Very much appreciated. Has made my weekend. Onwards and upwards ! But have to say again. UGā€™s ACW is superb šŸ‘Œ
  5. Thanks for the help. Much appreciated. šŸ‘
  6. Sounds good to me. If I ever get there. Would be a good idea at least to be able to see in detail the ups and downs of the Campaign. Be good to see number of casualties suffered, Generals lost/promoted. Those that survived. See if any units went through to the end. Be ideal to be able to print it out to examine and look back on.
  7. Tried again. It does state ā€œYour Army Organisation level does not allow more divisions in this. Corpsā€ Oh well. Thanks for tip though.
  8. Hi, Thanks. Have tried that but doesnā€™t seem to let me. No doubt ā€˜itā€™ has a reason. Thanks for reply. Best wishes.
  9. Iā€™m playing the campaign as the CSA. I have 3 Corps. 1st Corps consists of 3 Divisions. Numbered 2, 3 and 4. 2nd Corps consists of 1st Diversion. 3rd Corps consists of 1st Diversion. Can I move 1st Diversion from 3rd Corps to 2nd Corps. At the moment 3rd seems wasted. If so. How please. Many thanks.
  10. I know itā€™s much later. But I think the Battle of the Bulge 1944. This could work well. Individual battles for key Areas. St Vith. Bastogne to name just 2. Plus there would be a time constraint on the Nazis. I have played games on this before but think the UG method would work well.
  11. Cheers LAVA. Appreciate the comments. i intend to get some good play time in, which is so enjoyable, before moving to a campaign. Iā€™m still learning the mechanisms etc. But really enjoying it. Regards
  12. Feeling very pleased with myself ! Victory at Sones River. CSA Perhaps I should mention it took me 4 attempts šŸ˜•. But got there in the end. Having lost the 3 previous attempts made the victory all the more sweeter. UG is awesome ! Iā€™m loving it. Win or lose.
  13. Hi, Newbie too. Been playing UG about 6 weeks. Not playing as often as I would like ! But thatā€™s life. So far playing the historical battles or a few quick games. Usually as CSA. Iā€™m a seasoned war gamer, but it does take a while to get used to the mechanics of UG. Each battle I seem to learn something new. Will start a campaign when I feel can do myself justice ! The community is great. Lots of help and advice available. Regards
  14. Iā€™m a keen fan of Napoleonic wars. But would prefer Ancient wars. Also The Seven Years War.
  15. Hi, Thanks River Of Death. Your comments make sense. I must admit at the moment I am trying to play the battles without looking at what happened historically. So that if possible it makes me have to think more about the battle I am playing. This gives me more satisfaction. Your comments have given me something to think about. I will consider using my own tactics at times and see how I fair. Should I feel I can inflict damage to the enemy. Win or lose I am finding UG is great. But I appreciate your comments. I had not really considered the briefings matched what happened. Kind regards
  16. Hi, Thanks for the advice. Will make sure I ā€œtread carefully ā€œ. Many thanks
  17. I still consider myself a newbie with Ultimate General. But feeling smug with just completing this battle with a victory. Standard level as CSA. I am learning. New lesson today. Do as instructed in the briefing given. I was tempted to attack rather than just hold until day 3. But I curbed my aggressive thoughts. I counter attacked on day 3 as per the orders. It worked a treat ! So lesson learned. Do as instructed in the briefings ! Ultimate General is the best computer war game I have ever played. ( on IMac). Iā€™m still learning every battle I play. When I feel I have learned enough will try a campaign. Thankfully, I have a very understanding wife.
  18. Iā€™ve now been playing a few weeks. So far as the CSA. Played some battles on normal settings. Won a few lost more. Managed a draw. Just finished Antietam. I thought I was doing well. Held the objectives. Then was told to drive the centre of the Union troops at Dunker Chapel. No problem I thought ! Looking at their troops they had thrown everything and I still held it. Counter attack seemed a good idea. But - looking round to see which troops to deliver the attack. I realised I didnā€™t have much to use ! Had I a superior officer to talk to I would have said I was happy to make a counterattack and divide the union army. But could he please advise with what šŸ˜•. Must admit so far this has been my favourite battle. It looked as though I had held and now was the time to finish the Union troops off. Opps. Not quite what happened. But I really enjoyed it. (As I have the others). I will refight it soon. Hopefully leassons learned. I have only just discovered this company. Until now have used Hexwar. Which is turn based. This is far superior and Iā€™m hooked. My mind is thinking over my tactics already. Looking forward to having another go. Itā€™s ok. Not looking for advice. I consider myself an experienced war gamer ! So itā€™s all part of the fun !
  19. Iā€™m a ā€œnewbie to Ultimate General. But I will get there too ! So far just played First Bull Run and. Radom battle. Getting used to the game mechanics. But enjoying it. Canā€™t wait to play more.
  20. When I start waffling on to my wife about a game playing/just played to my wife. I know she is not interested and maybe not listening. But I still do it šŸ™„
  21. Just joined today having purchased for use on my IMac. Played a single battle so far. Plus 1 random.Just to get a feel. Looks good ! Really looking forward to getting into many battles !
