  1. Does every region provide a bonus, or are some regions glitched and providing nothing? Will some form of mouseover information for resource availability return? (See all that is produced/consumed in a port, without having to search one-by-one.) Will outposts go away or become more flexible? Are we returning to the era of 18-kt frigates, with stackable speed % bonuses of region+perk+wood+copper plating+staysail+speed mod+speed trim?
  2. There are some WiP areas. Havana just got rebuilt and has zero fortifications as a result. But Wilmington? Isn't that whole region just swamp? Stone forts are just going to sink into the ooze.
  3. It's not an exploit; it's a design flaw. No one is ever going to punish something so nebulous. Luckily, it's a design flaw that's easy to fix: No joining PBs for 5 minutes after logging in on the OW.
  4. Actually, Indy and Endymion are built to a higher standard than many dev-built ships. The Indy model simply represents the ship with less ornate scrollwork on the beakhead and stern. I don't know if the plainer look is historical or not, but it is entirely plausible, given the ship's long service life. Maybe the modeller didn't have the expertise to do complex artistic texture work. But the model is certainly not sub-par.
  5. You just posted a screenshot of the game's MOST detailed ship model, FFS. This rendition just doesn't have an ornate stern.
  6. Rescue your ships as a smuggler.
  7. Of merchant ships and lopsided encounters that didn't result in a fight, certainly. Very difficult to find scenarios where the French were able to overcome British ships of roughly equal force. Here's an interesting French victory in a frigate duel, however: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Milan_(1805) I suspect that most French victories in single ship combat were cases of privateers attacking British warships, especially early in the 18th century when records weren't as good.
  8. Didn't Northern Wolves' numbers show that with planking taken into account her sides were thicker than Victory's?
  9. To elaborate: It was very good that I did not capsize. What wasn't good is that my ship could push two other large warships at an angle with shredded sails, and basically lose no speed. A ship that can sail at 8 knots should not be able to sail at 8 knots while pushing another ship before it. That's like towing a trailer that's missing wheels on the right side. Tremendous drag. Of course, if not for this bug I would have been boarded in 10 minutes instead of lasting a whole hour. And then blowing up and taking two of the gankers with me.
  10. I haven't seen a single contraband trader in six hours of coastwise sailing (West Cuba).
  11. Diagonal riders don't really matter in combat and aren't supposed to. But a realistic penetration system would see Constitution as the most armored ship in the game.
  12. I don't think there is an enemy trader within 1000 nautical miles of Havana. Why were the smugglers removed?
  13. The ship didn't capsize. The devs did their job well. Although the ideal physics settings wouldn't allow the ship to ride up out of the water like that, what you see in the screenshot is a survivable heel angle for a stable ship. This community is beginning to remind me of a bunch of old ladies sitting around in a nursing home, whining about the color of their medication bottles changing. Of course, they complained about the way things were five minutes ago, but the real waterworks are reserved for when something gets improved. Or it turns out that they really liked the crappy old state of affairs after all. They whine about OP mods making the game gear-based instead of skill-based. Then they whine about nerfed mods and regional bonuses. There is a universal consensus that carronades allow people to dismast everyone. Then the carronade nerf is bad. They whine about wood types that can just be ignored. They whine about there being no purpose or drive to RvR, then whine when they actually have to fight over resources. And of course the root of all the evil is because fishing got added. (Now why haven't I gotten more than five bottles this week?!?) They whine because the randomly-placed event didn't end up in their backyard. They even whine about motherfucking yellow ships changing color to purple ships, with zero actual stat adjustments. Get a grip, people. Yellow label turned into purple label. Jesus Tapdancing Christ.
  14. Maybe the entry privilege should be an item that has to be obtained in a port a few hours ahead of time. They could even be tradeable, so that clans could bribe people into giving up their spot. Hostility farming could be profitable.
  15. Endymion has thinner sides in-game.
  16. The game's features cannot be designed around an underpopulated server. Lack of targets is caused by lack of targets. PvP 2 just needs more players.
  17. That would let Rattlesnakes jump traders right in front of the whole navy. Excluding AI from the 2nd circle has the same effect with no consequences for PvP.
  18. Maybe AI should get tagged in the inner circle only? That way you can still hide behind friendly AI, but only if you do it deliberately and in time. AI don't join fights, so excluding them from the tag is unimportant.
  19. Sheesh, speak for yourself... Every tester I know was asking for weaker mods and carronades, not to mention the magical pirate perk.
  20. Read post, please. I was talking about single-ship actions where the loser put up a fight. Although since you bring up the subject, the French never destroyed a British battlefleet in the entire period. Just some strategic victories that the Royal Navy would have regarded as a disappointing stalemate. For example, Suffren never managed to actually take a British ship of the line in any of his victories. The definition of victory is very different for the French and English.
  21. So the Swedes have one port, but the devs hate the Dutch? Please leave the persecution complex at home. Resource locations are now rooted in reality. And the Dutch will have zero trouble taking over remote Spanish territory with ample resources. You already have two port battles scheduled, FFS.
  22. This isn't remotely true. Third Rate SoLs routinely operated alone and were not considered remotely vulnerable to smaller vessels, who often found themselves chased and captured. If the only weapons in modern naval warfare were 20mm autocannons, Aircraft Carriers wouldn't need escorts either.
  23. Forgot about HMS Ambuscade vs. Bayonnaise.
  24. You are expecting lawless desert islands to have well-developed consumer demand? I agree, actually. The amount of towers looks a bit silly. Two big forts is more than enough, without a whole row of towers on top of them.
