Bring back sea trials?
jodgi replied to Captain Comery's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Kinda weird analogy, but ok, ya. Have been doing this in other games for years, In this game during Sea Trials and during the time we went rats due to PVP frustration. I would love to! But most OW fights end up as mini/midi/mega ganks due to long join timers. The stars really need to align for anyone to find a fight with a similarly strong player or group that chooses to fight you. Getting better by fighting players I know are better than me will enhance my gameplay experience. In some sessions it's all I want from the game. During most sessions I would want to go out and field test what I've learned. For anyone interested in getting better, training, duel and arranged battles are a major boost. -
Yay, maturin! --- Question is whether people want to plug the hole/fix the problem or if they're content with frying this particular individual. I've already figured out how to do this without any trace to my main account while still feeding the flag money from it. Have fun with your torches and pitchforks.

No, Des. I still need to learn, I'm not done with that yet. Snoopy knows what's up. See, I knew there are many here who knows the value of THE FIGHT. -
Oh, dear! No need to go all Minority Report on his ass.

Such a bloodthirsty crowd... roleplaying much? If your only idea is punishment it surely will happen again. Few people read the rules, few people read this thread and very few online players nurture a sense of honor. Pour you energy into suggestions about mechanics tweaking to make such exploits unlikely and few. These guys pointed out a vulnerability in the system, they employed the "complete asshole" method, but still...

Are 3rd rates too disposable?

Some of the most powerful upgrades can't be crafted (marines, handbooks...). -
Are 3rd rates too disposable?
jodgi replied to Ian2492's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
Hmmm... PVP chits. Lose - get a few, win - get more. Some things (only) obtainable with PVP chits. Keep golden marines, handbooks and more PVP chits exclusive. The more think about it the more I like it; some kind of PVP only "economy". -

This is true. But I squirm in my chair when the competitive stuff is largely unavailable to a (time) casual and non-clan player. I'm dissatisfied when we have a system where you solve stuff by grinding bots [OPINION]. If you've done "skill based PVP battles" you know they are terrible for cashgrinding, not just slightly worse than mission grinding... terrible [FACT]. -

I'm lvl 50 in crafting soon and I did it for this exact reason. Whatever skill I have doesn't give me access to the competetive gear, 5-6 weeks of extremely boring "grind" does, though. If people love this resource hunting and port clicking then they should be allowed to click their hearts out. I think it is a terrible thing in a glorious game. Whatever the solution might be, please let this game be a place where a new guy is able to beat me. This equipment grind wall thing can't be good. I've never done eco/craft games before, but is grind walls really a prerequisite for eco gameplay... "The economy needs it"? -
Shitpost ali. Shit opinion Trebs.

But you guys love your sandbox, surely you don't want a growing list of complicated rules? -
? In high level play matches are decided by mast shooting and raking (crew).

Should ships have durability?
jodgi replied to DJ JazzyJeff's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
See, I am fundamentally different from you (which is OK, for both of us). But I'm seriously scratching my head over this. I come to a any games to fight other players, if the game doesn't have that I simply don't play that game. So the concept of needing a reason to fight other players is profoundly alien to me. -
maturin and kumisz... You're free to do what you want, run around with whatever gimp fit you like. Though, I recognize that it does not matter with bot hunting and mission grinding. Any ship is adequate vs. bots. I'm just saying that I only care about golden ships, preferably those with 3/5 slots. Ask around in the big clans. Ask what ships they keep and use. It's not only bone-headed jodgi and his min-maxing tunnel vision. Golden 3/5 is a thing and not because I say so.

Fun = (fair fights - ganks)/ total fights Could work... Or lead to more aggressive ganks and more timid sailing and preemtive running. Not sure I follow fully, especially the "easy mode mechanics" part. Please elaborate.

You're right about the ships. The upgrades make such a difference that if skill is equal, upgrades often decide an isolated duel. Speed, sights and especially boarding mods. Just look at how golden boarding stuff simply burns through any attempt at clever clicking. We measure ship cost in batches of five, gotta click until you get that 3/5 ship with the right RNG built-ins. I've never heard of a competitive player that sticks with vanilla stuff in any game. If it's grind to win competitive players leave and play a game where skill matters. We are dangerously close to a system where people with time enough can bot grind and craft their way to easy-win equipment. I want to enable casuals and skill.

For PVP grinding to look attractive in comparison with mission grinding (divided by time unit) the PVP XP factor has to be... <shoddy math> 5x or more. But I heartily, and with tears in my eyes, support any and all motions to promote PVP. I suspect the developers are concerned with all the possible exploits that will happen with proper PVP incentives in place. We need to help them with that. Still thinking...

As a hardcore crafter myself I can confirm. The system penalizes the PVP solo player. He can't get the best ships or upgrades, you absolutely have to be part of a group or know a crafter to have access to the good stuff. Puchu has done a PVP experiment these last few weeks. He's done a lot of PVP and reports it makes him poor (I asked him to gather his thoughts and data and post here, we'll see). This is not your average player either. He's among the best trained and practiced PVP players on the servers, his only weakness is he likes to fight players and not avoid anything that might turn into a gank all the time. He also has access to whatever stuff he wants at low or no cost through his friends. I don't worry about Puchu. He will keep at PVP regardless. But what happens to "average" fun loving players when the game tells them PVP comes with a fun-tax? Like I've said before; I don't know all the answers and I don't want to take away other people's enjoyment. But I disagree with those that want to keep loss no matter what and dismisses discussion on pros and cons. #1mintimers! #lossupfordiscussion
