Reboot little ships grind - How do they perform?
jodgi replied to jodgi's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Yes, that's quick and easy: But It has proven difficult for me to find ships that don't have stacked speedmods or mods that adversely affect speed. Maybe I should do like this until I can present true vanilla/basic values? -
Reboot little ships grind - How do they perform?

I don't have the data. Some ships come with perm speedmods, some come with planking or reinforced masts which affect speed. I did one run with my trinc without guns to try to get close to basic values. Then I gave up, for now. -
Renown and fame ranking

I'm extremely wary about this. If a new guy comes along and he learns fast, I want him to be able to beat me - not just be beat by my ground up bonuses almost by default. Some bonuses are fine, the safest course is to limit them to soft stats like, but not limited to; rudder halftime (not ship turnrate), aimtime (not actual gun dispersion), yard "speed" (not ship speed) and so on. -
The optimal combat vessel for an open world

The Bellona is speed fitted as well. -
Sounds interesting. Is that something you could share with us, make a google drive spreadsheet and publish and link for us to try out?

Not sure about white for printing, I think I like the parchment look. The girl is Joanne Dru from a 1948 John Wayne flick called "Red River". She was pretty. Now my (open) world is perfect. I have Prater and Obi's up and yours in the next tab. I uploaded it to photos.google.com and can zoom and pan to my heart's content.

Dammit Siggi! This isn't just cool, it's REALLY good! One thing is the hours you've sunk into data collection, but the simple beauty of your graphic work is just... wow! This goes on the wall of my man-cave! btw... "rosa pirata"... [second edit] Can you do a lossless image, maybe png? For the man-cave.

Reboot little ships grind - How do they perform?

Aaaahahahahahaha! I can literally see the pain, borne from love, in your words, priceless! I think new guys are better off with a cutter as a starter vessel, then they can dream of the specialized speedy Lynx they hope to capture or afford during the first days of play. -
I'd try flickr Last time I tried, years ago, I could publicly share images. I'm in the process of checking now... (need to generate a large image file first) LOL, oh, crap! I just generated a 2.2 gigabyte image!!!

Hmmm... When you say "tools" are you referring to something related to F11? (or some console output or command?)
-
Ah, this is really nice! Are you going to share full/high resolution version with us?

The former best ship in the game now has one use: Trincs can stagger their chaser fire to keep a running renom in the instance, until it has worn down the ren's sails plus repairs then catch and kill it. Sad fate when they remember being nambawan.

Hmm... I have no love for the Brigs so I haven't done those. Maybe I should do one? I wouldn't expect to run away from anything in a Brig, tho... When they start to model the weight of the cargo all bets are off anyway. [edit] I just went and did it. A yellow speed fitted brig can outrun the little ones downwind. Go without speed mods and the margin starts to shrink to less than +1 knot. You just have to avoid letting them battlespawn on top of you. An unmodded Belle won't catch your speedmodded Brig, and since that's one of the few without forward chasers it's pretty much that ship and a Snow you can comfortably escape. Well, nobody sails a cerb, so... -
Soon we're all back in little ships, how are you planning your grind? This is how the little ones perform relative to eachother right now: (Though, I'm pretty shure that'll change soon as per admin's "data change request" topic.) All ships are close to equally fitted for speed, except the Yacht which you could bump up 5% to compare it on equal footing. As for me... I plan on going Yacht > Pickle > Mercury and up. Maybe crafting will be fun to test? But then I'll have to zoom around, probably for hours, looking for this and that and spend, probably hours again, hauling stuff back home. I keep my mind tentatively open... Cya on the flipside!

I found a Pickle with blue copper and I couldn't resist throwing my yellow speed trim at it and document it for posterity. 3cool5me

Until they start adding the weight of the cargo to the sailing physics. Switching from long guns to carronades earns my renom 0.3 knots. Imagine what a full load of cargo should do to even a trader lynx... Captured a random TLynx, filled it up with ironwood, slapped yellow speed trim on it and... You can trade with total impunity in that. I hope it doesn't stay like this.

I guess it depends on how they end up balancing the economy. I have a feeling they won't set it up for us to use big ships all the time. The big ships could end up as end-game gold sinks and the profitability cutoff may be set at the Mercury or the first frigates... We'll see. -
I've started to time the reload of the guns in the game. Anyone can view the chart published as a website by Google drive: Maybe some of you would like to participate in completing the chart? You need a Google account to ask for editing access HERE.
