Sailing profiles are also a-historical. 1st rate spam is a-historical. I see the sense in both for gameplay or casual customer pleasing reasons respectively. But for a stringent argumentation partial reliance on historical stats does not work imo. I still think you have a plan and you're not like Mr. Trump who has to cherry pick or turn facts to please the crowds. I just don't get why you don't want to share it. Can you please give examples of increased complexity? Could you share expectations on the amount of 1st rates used in pvp please? Following this, could you share expectations on allover number of pvp battles please - will it rise/decline/stay equal to now?

Please do not drag quotations out of the context theyre embedded in. I said nice balance, referring to the two major aspects of sailing profiles of SOLs and damage output of respective ships. You attend only - and drastically - to one of these important parameters, although they correlate gameplay wise significantly. "The balance was great of course but it was great for one class of ship. Cheap fast turner with heavier calibers." - could you be precise? Which ships do you consider to fall in that category? I agree this was a reason for long ships like Conny or Endymion to be less used, as they often couldn't bring in good broadsides against faster turning ships like Aga or PFrig/Essex. Also imo the hard limit on structural damage was too low, that's why I did not say it is balanced, especially not greatly. Meta was and always will be (unless penetration rises drastically or armour gets lowered likewise) to angle at about 45° as one only shows the smallest area to penetrate. Personally I consider this a skill, as it always needs constant adjustment of speed and direction via perfect manual sailing to find this sweet spot. Perhaps asides adjusting the structure damage hard limit, fixing (get rid of) the bug/feature of cannons showing as destroyed but magically reloading would have helped.

Dear @admin please do not feel offended by the following words, even so some might be sarcastic. What is your goal for this game? In the last year you stated on multiple occasions, you don't want this game to be for everybody as it is very hardcore. Now you seem to switch politics to go for numbers. That's fine, good actually. What I do not understand is the fact, that you tweak aspects of this game to go for full (or as much as possibe) realism (gunnery) while other fundamental aspects, like sailing are not affected? A SOL simply would lose almost every bit of its' ability to sail forewards when luffing higher than beam reach, a tack would require half an hour. Why is this part not addressed while the roaring SOL broadsides now finally cause devastating damage to 4ths and below? Did you think this through? New metas will occur, those adapting to them will - as always - flourish. Why do think would anyone sail a 5th rate if the possibility of a 12.5kn fir/fir Bellona with prepared perk spawns right next to you, demasting (by luck - mmh no let's call it universal skill) you in the first broadside and even if you repair instantly it will just catch up, even close hauled. Do you really think casuals will be happier now because they will get killed by SOLs instead of frigates? You had something great, a nice balance: SOLs could sail irrealistically fast up wind, but therefore did not sink/cripple 5th rates and below in one broadside. It felt really nicely balanced. Now you shift one aspect towards more realism, while the other stays unrealistic. Overall this creates: more unrealism. What about economical aspects of maintenance and crafting costs: if you went for realism, perhaps one in 200 players should sail a 1st rate. On the other hand YOU KNOW (see highlighted part in the quote) that biggies are what people (quote: "much bigger numbers") want and buy this game for. Quite a dilemma don't you think? If you act customer friendly, everybody sails SOLs because it will become necessary meta, smaller vessels will have some spots in frigate or light ship events, but that's it. Negative: fewer diversity, harder start for newcomers. Following the pro realism approach, I predict to mainly see frigates in OW accompanied by some 3rd rates, but people will call for HMS Victory or Santissima Trinidad. Negative: smaller pop(?). I defended nearly every change you made in the last 1,5 years, because I truely believed it would finally lead to a better, nicely balanced between realism and gamyness, game. This one I simply cannot understand. Therefore the question of the beginning again: What is your goal for this game, whom do you want to please?

@van Veen telling people which ships to bring is not the answer to the question whether we as a community consider artificially prolonged join timers valid tactics or an exploit of game mechanics which in that case would need tweaking. To me that's a complex question, which needs either a rudimentary answer aka "allow everything - live with it" or a finely tuned adaption of RoE. Both solutions are fine imo. The question is what does the community want and not "Why don't you guys accept this is a war game where winning is everything?"

TBH I don't remember anything good for my enemies at KPR concerning TP back to port. Only the raider had advantages. As soon as it gets crowded, just leave and return at a pleasing time. It could only be a thing to TP back with empty hold, no fleet and to the last entered port. Make it a really tough choice.

To me it's totally off-washed black aswell as grey-hazed white. As Kant's categorical imperative does obviously not work, we have rules (laws IRL). On the other hand it's a game and perhaps one essential reason for many to play is exactly the lack of or the limited number of rules to be obeyed - to flee reality for the sake of fun. As this differs from player to player I would advertise a compromise. As few rules as possible, as many as necessary to accomplish enjoyable gameplay for everybody.

It's not DesMoines. He considers these french players noobs and only plays with russian support now

Due to the lately rising amount of tribunals referring to griefing in the OW, I created a poll about what players actually consider griefing in this regard. Also there are some proposals upon solutions stated by multiple players like @Liq, @Banished Privateer and others, though I chose some to me reasonably sounding parameters. Regarding the possible changes, the question of considering Reinforcement Zones as special or just part of the open world also seems plausible to be asked. None of the answers you choose are binding, the actual values of invisibility time etc. are only proposals and tuning and adjusting recommendations are very welcome. This poll shall only serve as an overview to the community's opinion on the matter. I would feel delighted, if you are interested and could advertise this poll on global chat.

Dann kannst du zumindest alle Schiffe wieder entgegennehmen. Natürlich hast du ohne das DLC keine XP und musst beim ersten Rang anfangen. PPS. Für HANSA @Captain Cid Für PGP @Salty Sails Für HRE @Bumsebiene Für HREKK @Sven Silberbart Für Purg3 ingame Gooser Für GDL @Petrel (GDL) Für Kings (Briten) @Jonathan Arlington (falls noch/wieder aktiv) Ansonsten einfach im Global fragen und abends pms verteilen o7

Total Wipe at Release - a suggestion
Palatinose replied to Anolytic's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
@Anolytic nice proposal. Good thing about it is the first two weeks, when the map gets filled by nations capping ports, really everybody is "equal" (as Monkey said: years of experience is enough, therefore equal is kinda relative again). The problem I see is: groups like yours or mine or any RvR focussed group aka multiple alt users. For AI pbs no knowledge is necessary, only time. Which is the only real advantage of alts. On the other hand there is no solution to this ever reoccuring problem. Therefore I really like your proposal. -

How would this be a trilemma? PvP ranks would be great, but probably hard to implement and I bet people will find ways to exploit them.- 615 replies

Battle system core ruleset discussion
Palatinose replied to admin's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Examples on a practical approach: these days I had engagements in 5v1 situations against newer players/unexperienced players. BR wise it was a 80:740 and a 175:400. I sailed good ships with mast mods, repair mods and gunnery mods. Both engagements had in common, that the players kept chaining me, though I sailed on battle sails and was at about 75% sails already. In the first named engagement I obtained and kept the weather gauge over the entire battle, in the second one my foes handed it to me after 3 minutes via the usual situation: want to chain, turn downwind, have bad angle on sails, shoot anyways, am afraid of getting a broadside, turn away downwind, weather gauge gone. When playing solo I have always found that if being outnumbered highly, obtaining the weather gauge is the most important thing. Newer players (aswell as about 70% of the rest of NA) usually don't aim for the wind advantage, but (and I imagine the players PoV here) get into the firering mode and turn their ship so the enemy is in the focus and shoot, completely unaware of the angle. This results in nearly no hull damage, very limited chain damage and depending on the mast strength and the sections focussed: nearly no mast damage. At the same time I was in the position to inflict damage with nearly a full broadside every time or shift the damage towards the masts. This nearly always results in a first draw back on the enemies side to repair the hull and in a quick return, then getting demasted/chained down and killed. Both engagements did not end like Dinarks 1v5's, still I killed 1 and 2 respectively. Long talk to reach the essence: I see a dilemma situation in RoE balancing: if we have BR wise fairer fights, newer players will suffer from getting wrecked by experienced players, nearly without the chance of reinforcing their numbers. If we have it like right now, experienced gank squads will take down high numbers of newbies without a chance for the latter. Imo especially the second case is basis for felt grief and annoyance, therefore I argue for a change in RoE like announced. Not denying that this suits my playstyle as a solo player aswell ofc. I also strongly argue for more possibilities in teaching newer players in pvp, especially the basics (once they obtain the basics imo only soloing improves/refines the skill). #bringduelroomback- 615 replies

Exactly this. Sinplicity could be kept while some basic 3D frames around the buttons probably would improve the view. Perhaps make numbers a bit thicker so the difference between on/off is easier to see. Personally I just check whether it's tired on/off and don't count crew. Often there is simply no time for it.

Battle system core ruleset discussion

Thanks Slim for another discussion invaded by your "this repair system sucks" mentality. I'm waiting for the RNG crafting is shit, skill doesn't matter and the gear gap is real posts, cuz no matter what topic, you will always tell us what NAs real issues are. Best regards- 615 replies

@vazco you recognize putting in a certain amount of dubs dir being allowed to only flip a port and being screened out penalizes the attacker twice. Most likely they will lose the entire pb fleet in the screening fight and additionally donate 30k dubs to the defender. In that case Hey would anyone aim to go for the pb if you can simply screen and get kills and extra dubs on top? Why would anyone attack "zerg nations"? I principially like the idea, it's the players who would kill it though.

You know as well as I do, that certain tactics work in 80-90% of the population. For example 12pd carro Belle Poule, you will sink many, als you also know it won't work against any player who knows what to do. Same goes for Herc vs Indef. Sry mate but that proposal only will prove Pit has a big mouth sometimes as everyone has.
-
@Captain Reverse concerning the duel with Pit: how about a fight in your favourite 5th and one in his favourite 5th? You don't seriously propose a fight Herc vs Indef Because I bet there is no player in the server to win such a fight vs you, Dinark, Dreammaker or any other good player. Herc is no match for an Indef.
