  1. I think that crew should be a finite resource, but the vast majority of boarding casualties should be restored after a battle instance ends. That should allow for a good series of boarding combats. Furthermore, I think that a crew of 100 men that has taken no losses should be able to defeat a crew of 150-200 men who have been decimated by grapeshot. It's very rare for mass combat of any kind to result in casualty rates of over 10%, and the majority of casualties will be non-lethal. When I see my enemy's crew count ticking down to zero, that number should represent the number of men left willing to fight, not the number left alive.
  2. Uh, multiplayer?
  3. We should just assume that the crew is automatically picked up from sinking vessels. Ships in Naval Action sink hundreds of times more frequently and hundreds of times faster than actual vessels. So there is no point dwelling on the logistics and ramifications of this gameplay shortcut, IMHO. In my imagination all these sunken vessels are surrendering or slinking off anyhow.
  4. Let's not please ruin Lynx, one of the most iconic and innovative sailing vessel types in history. I'd rather see a larger variety of starter vessels, such a more prosaic schooner, cutter, Bermuda sloop or lugger. As for the smoke, which I will fight tooth and nail to retain in all its glory, this is non-issue once the game gets the fighting top and masthead views that it desperately needs. Imho it is long overdue that our camera is restricted to hovering ten feet above the deck. I want to command from the quarterdeck or from the rigging, both of which are superior in terms of visibility and immersion.
  5. I agree heartily, but you are asking for a huge suite of new features and content. Something that is ultimately more suited to a SP spinoff RPG than a simple PvE server.
  6. Is there any particular area where you find AI fleets of that size clashing?
  7. I can't imagine exploration or trade being at all interesting in a PvE server. It would be a completely risk-free activity. How can you have an adventure without danger? Now, if there were navigational and weather hazards, that would be a different story...
  8. It just links the item stats to be visible in the chat window.
  9. The reversing rudder is frequently a problem, because the speed scale is not totally accurate at the low end. Frequently, when tacking I will find myself going -0.5 knots, and yet the rudder is not reversed. Or the reverse happens. The speedometer read 1.2 knots and yet the rudder is still reversed. This happens every 10 battles or so with every ship. If we're going to have reversing rudder, it needs to reverse based on the speedometer and not lie to us. There is nothing realistic about guessing whether we are going forwards or backwards, because at this speed a rudder is useless IRL.
  10. I stalked Raatha's Navy Brig as emerged from a battle, and attacked it. A split second before the countdown reached 0, the brig froze completely, with waves submerging it in the water. Then the brig vanished, and Raatha said he had a random disconnection. Perhaps 40 seconds later I saw the brig re-emerge several dozen shiplengths to the west of where I had tackled it (that is, near the former battle area). Aren't ships supposed to stay on the OW for 10 minutes after disconnection?
  11. Pirates by their very nature don't build or organize any lasting legacy. Why would anything remain from the brief tenure of a few hundred men on a beach? They weren't any different from the rest of the seafaring, beachcombing population in any archeologically noticeable way. So I imagine there's nothing but hokey tourist traps.
  12. Please don't make 'baiting' thread titles that do not reflect the actual content of you post.
  13. Pirates are allowed and expected to prey on one another, as the devs have stated multiple times. This Tribunal won't go any farther just for that. The only thing here that is punishable is the language you have used against each other. But since you are fighting over nothing and no one has produced a full chatlog, I urge you all to forgive and forget.
  14. As long as I can uncheck the 'Display usermade sails' box in game settings.
  15. Every PM has a report button on it, next to reply. Hit that button immediately; don't delay.
  16. The devs have suggested that there is a xebec in the works a few times in the past. Personally, I think we could use some smaller vessels, like a lugger, sloop or additional schooner. Because Lynx is manifestly NOT your standard starter ship. Making a Baltimore clipper the newby boat is like learning to drive on a drag racer. These were extreme, dangerous vessels. The cutting edge of technology and one of the fastest-moving manmade objects in history up to that point. Historically speaking, Lynx is the endgame small ship.
  17. A stern camper is always in sailing mode, remember.
  18. Any open world MMO is going to be a time sink. However, if you pick a good local base for your operations, it should be perfectly easy to get several battles per every two hours. Especially if you're a solo player or pirate. And if you sign up as an escort you could get more.
  19. For another great Charles Dance role, take a look at Going Postal, a Terry Pratchett adaptation.
  20. Plus, a large ship would have plenty of swivel guns on board. These were mobile, and could be emplaced on the poop if necessary. Then the camper would suffer plunging fire of a considerably greater caliber than mere muskets. For a more extreme example: In an extended chase situation where broadside guns couldn't be brought to bear, some SoLs even mounted additional guns in the stern. After Cornwallis' Retreat (look it up), several of the British ships had to have their stern structures rebuilt because the crew relocated so many guns there. By the time you could disable an SoL in a snow, they would have as many guns poking out of the stern windows as you had on your broadside.
  21. At the moment, you must waylay Grandfather Time. I hear that poignant emails to the devs sometimes work as well. Development is just proceeding at an enormous pace right now, leaving the staff no time to manage the growing pains of the community.
