Reinforcement fleets: feedback
Christendom replied to admin's topic in Current Feature Improvement Suggestions
I've attacked several players in the reinforcement zones over the past week or so. It's now incredibly easy to sink traders again. Outside of Belize this weekend I tagged a player in an LGV just south of the port. Get a great tag, load chain with prepared and immediately rigging shock the guy. Sail over, push him into the wind, board and over. Since I was in a trinco the AI reinforcement was a AI belle poole and it spawned behind and downwind. It simply couldn't get to us. Capped and sunk the guy and made a course upwind further out of the battle. Easy. AI was a joke. I felt bad for this guy. Another situation outside KPR myself and 3-4 other VCO/CSA guys snagged an traders brig with 2 in fleet. He called in reinforcements, but since we were in frigates they were only AI frigates. Rage boarded the guy and the other captains boarded his AI ships. All sunk. some light chain on the AI and we sailed away. Easy. The threat of matching AI 5th rates is not enough to deter myself from hunting. the AI 1st rates were. I know I saw the ex RUBLI guys outside Habana this weekend ganking in the safe zone with Hercules. I assume they were getting in quick to sink and then just hitting the jets and running away. Safe zones are a joke now. And it's a shame -
If you actually spent time playing NA you could have the book of 5 rings also. It's not difficult to get the books if you actually invest the time OR money. An absurdly imbalanced perk should not exist simply because people have special boarding books. Invest the time to get them. For the greater part of a year DD wasn't a thing. Why exactly do we need it? Stop making people play your way and let others play their way! And only people who don't know how to board and/or don't play the game think that boarding requires zero skill.
-
We have far bigger fish to fry than fixing one small aspect of combat. Hence the fix to perks. Quick and easy to code. Revamping boarding is not. I would prefer imperfect balancing to none. Anyway the collective opinion is against DD just like it was the first time it was introduced. Not sure why it was brought back. No one requested it. No one who actually plays anyway.

The act of chaining/disabling a ship and boarding is perhaps the most historically accurate aspect of the combat in this game. The boarding mini-game needs work but I actually kinda like it. Majority of the ships historically were taken by boarding or disabled enough to the fact that the captains surrendered. Unlike NA the price was always in the other ship and it's contents, not imaginary marks. It was in fact very difficult to actually sink a ship.

In reality if you were to shred a the rigging/spars/masts to 60% of what they were the ship would have little more than steerage way and be at the mercy of the aggressor ship performing a dreaded stern rake or two. See the Constitution vs the Java fight. Most captains would face the inevitable if their ships were demasted or horribly mauled and strike the colors to preserve the crew. I fail to see how demasting or chaining a ship down to 50/60% of its sails and boarding is any different really. DD should only work once. If you're still in a position to be boarded after the first time and the 90second grapple CD you should be fair game.

Quite frankly DD has ruined most aspects of PVP for me. It makes sailing in a larger ship almost necessary if you want to solo privateer and get in and out of fights quickly or if you fight anything other than traders. This weekend I spent most of it out solo hunting down in the belize tumbado region. I don't remember how many kills, but 200 or so marks. In only 1 of the situations was I able to board a smaller ship and it was a demasted shallow ship. In one situation I had a demasted indy (I was in a trinc) and took off about 70-80 of his crew and went in for the board. NOPE. I'm just flat out astonished that I can kill 70/80 crew and demast the ship and STILL not board it. That was a 2v1 and the other ship was also demasted and limping along, I needed knock one out quickly. Or attempted to. So I just sit next to him with double ball, take excessive damage and waste his time and mine....and moved on to the next. Frankly it's stupid. And while I'm sure @Hethwill will link me that picture of a ship using boarding netting against 2-3 long boats, boarding netting was only really effective against smaller launches where the boarders would have to climb up. Another ship would just sail up and shred the netting with grape or bar shot. Determined defender should only really work once. If you're still in range to board the 2nd time, you got him.

If outlaw battles were returned I know quite a few players would return. I know I'd personally go back pirate.

Outlaw battles stay open for 30 mins. Problem solved for #1 Anyone can join an outlaw battle and sink anyone in it. Problem solved for #2 The largest abuser of the outlaw mechanic was from alts or disgruntled members of the pirate faction tagging others inside the safe zones so national players could get in. Remove the option to form outlaw battles in reinforcement zones. Problem solved.

hush child. No one cares about you anymore.

PLEASE. Also just make it so no outlaw battles can be opened in the safe zone. None. This will future proof the mechanics from players like KoC who used alts to “manipulate” outlaw battles in the zones.

Harbor Island PB - US vs GB. Ran most of the show along with @koiz and Raxious assisting. I think Capt Blackie called for ARMED. Relatively easy fight, unfortunately the "dynamic wind" (that shifts 90degs) ended up preventing us from having a wholesale slaughter of limeys. Not sure if the brits gave up on the circles too early or what, but it was over quickly. Props to ARMED coming out and fighting and props to spain for sending in a relief fleet to tag up 5-6 brits. Despite much boasting and shit talking in global for 2 nights, the US was able to slip past the crack WO / Prussian screening fleet that got suckered in with relative ease. Good evening overall.

There's a lot of risk flipping EU ports around midnight US time? The reward of doing the port battles is that you get to keep the port. What you're basically saying is you want to create content so your specific group of players can stay busy during the evenings. It might be good for you, but for the vast majority of clans in the game this suggestion is not. It's an interesting suggestion, but not really fleshed out. It's amusing though that you can't even make suggestions on these forums without shit talking certain people. #Cancer. -

I like it. The CD on these things needs to be long. -

Interesting idea, but I think the port costs are already heavily oppressive in the current climate of the game. This would just leave to more dropped neutral ports and it favors the attackers far too much. A port battle should there to fight over the port. You win, you get the port and the costs associated with it. In the current state of the game there would be nothing to prevent a clan like KoCs attacking a different port on the map that does not have timers against EU nations that cannot defend them.....every single night. These ports don't have timers because the 500k a day is far too high for the current population level of the game. This will just ultimately encourage more off hours flipping of ports for free or barely contested loot. This should be a raid and be a different type of battle. -
nah we just baited you guys into the fort and almost got banished's herc. Almost. No big deal. We had more fun at the end watching the fort almost sink everyone. And we still lost less 1st rates than you did today. Lighten up.
