Hello everybody. There has been a lot of discussion lately about timers, faction size, game balance, etc. In this forum and National news. One thing I believe is clear is that Spain is not a "comfortable" nation to non Spanish speaking players. Despite some efforts to improve, especially in the nation chat, most of the information is still exchanged in Spanish, and the TS dynamics are mostly carried out in Cervantes tongue. Of course, this poses a difficulty, especially in a moment when Spain needs new players, broaden our connection timers, to try to match those of other nations hostile to Spain, with a larger, and more geographically diverse population. So, I would like to start this discussion for all of Spain´s Captains, to exchange ideas on how to make life easier for those of us that do not speak Spanish. Here I toss a couple of ideas: - In the TS: establish a corps of translators, that are nominated liaisons to non Spanish speaking clans, Russians, Germans, and our large and always welcome population of Polynesians. One or two liaison officers would do the trick, to pass on essential information about port battles, political situation, check about their needs and opinions, etc. - In the National chat: The same, all essential information about enemy fleets/privateers, battles, should be shared in an English-friendly code: for example Holand instead of berenjeno, sharing coordinates instead of indications, etc. - In Havana: Try to create a friendlier environment for new players. Restarting the activities of the Naval Academy, with volunteer experienced captains from all clans, to do missions, train and escort the new players. Maybe a Schedule of missions could be established for different grades, in English and Spanish, with some of us sharing the responsibility of training recruits. Any other ideas or suggestions? thank you for sharing your opinions here. ¿Otras ideas o sugerencias? Gracias por compartir vuestra opinión aquí. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro.

If you vote based on your personal sympathies, you are welcomed to do so. I would like to make informed decisions, based on the relaity of the game, not who I like or dislike.

I recently published a thread asking the developers for clear statistics on the nations's weight, worth, numbers, economy and military performance. It would be interesting to know this so the players can make informed decisions when voting. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/15712-transparency-international-suggestion/#entry293585 Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro

Yes... or maybe not... you should have more faith in this game's players... we are not the average gamers, Most of us want to have fun with interesting and balanced battles, not beating the crap out of the weakest. Aniway, my point is not to calculate what players are going to do with their vote, i do not have a cristal ball. My point is that, if we vote, we should have as much information as possible to make good voting decisions, and not vote on a whim or a misperception. Thank you for your reply. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro.

Hello Chimera. I´m not necessarily correlating number of players to military power. In fact, I believe other information should be published as well, such as economic power, transactions, wealth, victories, etc. Responding to your question, the information, if provided, can help players vote alliances based on obtaining a balance in the game, or simply obtain total superiority by joining forces with the most powerful nations. It depends on them, my point is that, in order to make responsible decisions, players need to have accurate information, and not base their vote on feelings, historical likes/dislikes, or the whim of the day. Using your example, if we have accurate information that Britain is the wealthiest, most populated, most powerful nation in the map, maybe players from other friendly factions like the Dutch, neighbouring the Brits, may, or may not, wish to counter balance that power, by seeking other allies. Thanks for contributing to the discussion. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro.

Yes, but at least the arguments would be based on facts. We are all arguing about player imbalances anyway. If the new diplomatic mechanics allow for voting, it is important that the voters make informed decisions. This information would let us us to track the evolution of the game, in many different ways, and shape alliances based on national interests, not like/dislike of one or several factions or, what is worse, old historical alliances. Thanks for the reply. Sancho

The actions of some nations, and their success in battle have forced players to resort to makeshift diplomacy to address imbalances in the number of players, especially during summer break, that have a radical impact on the capacity of smaller nations to defend their territory. There are hundreds of posts discussing these issues, and I believe that official statistics from the developers could be a useful contribution to these discussions taking place somewhere else in the forums. Here is the information I would like to know: - How many players are playing for each faction, at what time? - That are the trends of the population and wealth of the different factions over time? (historical data). - What is the net worth of each faction (Something like GDP) the sum of all money, goods, and ships accumulated by each faction? - What are the figures of lost, sunk, captured, built ships on each faction? I believe that good willing players from all factions are making an effort to maintain the balance and make this game even more fun to play. A good set of data, clearly presented would be a great source of information to make political decisions, especially now that the alliances mechanics are coming. I´m sure I´m not the first one to post this sort of idea in the forum, I apologize for the repetition. Yours. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro

Great idea!!! Wipe all nations from the server, and let´s make a great, happy red map where Britain rules the waves!!!, Let's see how much fun you have trading fish meat and drinking tea by yourselves. Really, you should think twice before starting to type this kind of ideas. It just gives us a measure of your quality as a person, and as a player, which I'm afraid is not very high. Thank God the majority of players in this game are reasonable and mature people that have realized this game is about naval combat, not territorial annexation or national humiliation. In order to have fun, we need as many other players from other factions as possible. If I could not go visit our Dutch friends in Wilhemstadt, or the British traders off Jamaica... If i did not have the pleasure of intercepting them off Havana when they come visit us, the game would be dead for me, so I want all nations to be strong, active and picking on each other constantly. As I said, think hard before you put these things in writing. Sincerely. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro

Hello, dear developers. In the heat of battle I targeted a member of my faction by mistake, and became pirate. I did not fight with him, of course, or attacked anyone else. This happened around 15 minutes ago. Can I return to my faction please? Will I lose some of my outposts or ships? Thank you for your help with my stupid mistake. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro

Oh, come on, Mr Praefect!!! The fact is that the pact to end combat in the Southeast of the Caribbean has given quarter to the Dutch and the Swedes, that have opportunistically moved to Haiti and launched combined attacks with the Brits against Spanish possessions in Cuba. We were figting and defending successfully the south of Cuba against the British, every single day, until the Dutch started supporting their fleets and mutually defending their ports with attack flags that prevented our flags from being successfully planted. The Americans, of course, have profitted from the opportunity to attack us themselves, also combined with Brit and Holland attacks. So yes, now Spain is fighting three different nations that pool their resources and coordinate attacks. All this added to tje ignominy of the timers set for the British ports in Haiti. So, please, do not talk to me about honour. We are just simply asking our longtime allies the French for support and relief. And do not be concerned aboutt our reputation. Those that fought us know how we fight, and some have described their feelings about Spanish Captains in this forum. We will continue to fight three nations at the same time, no problem, in the hope that our allies and friends keep you entertained in your safe heaven. I hope to meet you sometime around your capital, we visit often lately. Yours. Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro

Brigadier Don Sancho Navarro

Good discussion. I am personally not interested in becoming a human resources manager. An option would be tu put crew management on AUTO, with a small penalty for corruption and petty theft from accountants and junior managers. Which was usual at the time. Most of us have only a few hours to play the game and besides our crafting obligations, looking for resources, doing escorts etc there is little time for anything else. Please, do not sacrifice the playability of the game for the sake of 100% realism. Greetings. Don Sancho Navarro, Capitán de Bandera.

Dear Vernon. It´s none of my business, and this is not a diplomatic post, anyway, but some persons claiming to speak for the entire US shine a bad light on your faction. I sincerely hope for peace between our nations, but negotiations should be carried out by mature persons, outside public forums. At least that is how these things are carried out in real life. I´m sure the Spanish diplomats of the King's Council are up to the task. See you around Havana. Don Sancho Navarro, Capitán de Bandera. -
Saludos. Don Sancho Navarro, Capitán de Bandera
