Meaning they can do maybe 1-2 PBs a week if they are contested and against a skilled opponent. And provided enough friends are still playing that you can fill a PB. When i got hooked on this game we had flags and there were PBs every evening, even several PBs in a night. Of course we also had tons of fake flags - not everything was better before. But when you've completed the XP grind, sailed all the ships, have max crafting level and what you remain for is the end-game - then 5 days grinding for hopefully getting one good battle is just too much. And you could still be screened out of that battle and ganked, meaning you have to start over with 5 days grinding before you can try again. I get why people area averse to that. It excludes all but the most dedicated RvR-players, and those cannot do it alone without the slightly more casual players filling in the numbers. I'm still playing, but RvR is not a solo activity. Even with alts I can't do a port battle by myself. You don't play RvR, we get it. I see nobody telling you how you should play, maybe keep it to yourself how you think others should play. We play this game for different reasons. The RvR end-game is about big battles in big groups with big ships - and with small ships in the shallows. And it's about winning. Or trying to win. Against enemies that may have beaten you before and are at least equally skilled to you. To have a chance, you usually need at least equally good gear to them. And you need training, testing of setups, and to try - again and again. RvR end-game is about loosing a lot of ships, but every now and again you have a great victory, achieve a big goal, beat an old foe.

I'm not going to argue with that there are enough doubloons. Some of us are swimming in them, and i think I'm closing in on 100k. However, I still think doubloons are a significant part of the problems since the patch. Of those 1st-rates how many did you craft since patch 27? Doubloons are a chore, a grind. Those of us who can endure it, those who find the patrol zone with its RoE fun, and those who just have too much time on their hand and nothing else to do, are now swimming in doubloons. Other players, with less game-time, who don't enjoy the patrol zone, who find it too grindy and repetitive there, or those who even just play at times where the patrol zone is less active and less fun, they struggle. You have a few hours game time every evening, and you have to spend 5 evenings in the patrol zone to afford a 1st rate that you now don't even have any use for because there are no big lineship battles or port battles, and you can't afford to try it out alone because you wouldn't want to loose it and have to endure the grind all over again. Some players left because they don't want to spend their time grinding for doubloons. Even if something is easy it can still be boring. And others left because there are not enough players left in the group to go out in a big group and do stuff together. I'm not opposed to the concept of doubloons. I just think the ways to get them lack variety and are too much like a chore. I also think the doubloon prices still need balancing. Not least, I think that only 1st and 2nd rates should require doubloons for crafting, or at least that the price should be reduced to negligible for 4th and 3rd rates. If the reason for making lineships rare is historical accuracy as some keep arguing, it doesn't sit well with that I keep reading that 74s were among the most prevalent ships in the age of sail. Tbh, this becomes kind of silly. Are we supposed to bring players into the game by buying it for them and just crossing our fingers that they try it out and stick around? As we keep being reminded, this is a development forum. Are we supposed to hold back feedback and criticism because it might drive some players away. Not addressing issues that everybody notices also drives players away. This OP is quite respectful in his criticisms, even though I don't agree with all of them. He even ends on a positive note: We can argue about content and mechanics and weighing interests and benefits against each other, but you can't just counter every post that has a particular idea about the game, or criticise a specific aspect or mechanic by dismissing the ideas and saying to be positive instead. You used to argue there were too many lineships in the game. Why did you not just keep it to yourself and pretend "enthusiasm" about it? I used to argue for (some) limits on lineships as well, but then we got that with the conquest marks patch and it crippled RvR and too many of my friends left the game because of it, so I changed my view and now it is this: amen

I assume you've changed the RNG with one of the last few patches, because overall I've gotten as frequently 4/5 hercs as I've crafted 4/5 ships. And I only ever crafted a single gold ship. However, the thing is that while I don't sail the Hercules so often (for one thing I prefer line-ships, for another I don't like/can't get used to the fire pattern of the herc), I'd want to have a good one at hand for when I need to/want to use one. So what I can do is I can redeem a Hercules approximately every 25 hours and if the RNG-gods are not with me, I can just sell it to the store (I assume you still can, I haven't checked since the patch). This costs me absolutely nothing, no resources, no reals, it even makes me a small profit for every ship I discard. And however unfavourably the RNG-gods are tuned, chances are I'll eventually get a good Hercules that I can stow away in my docks until I have use of it. Meanwhile, to get the same guarantee of a good, 4-slot or better, crafted ship, you would have to spend a lot of resources, reals and transportation time before the RNG-gods would smile on you. DLC-ships may have rarer crafting bonuses, but since they are freely redeemable and discardable it would still be easier to get a crafting bonus than with crafted ships that you can't afford to discard as many ships in trying to get a good crafting bonus.

What about agility? The advantages of the Hercules is not necessarily in those (or any) stats on paper. It seems to me that its advantages lie more in other features that come to light in battle. Its size means it can hide under many ships' guns, its length means it can hug another 5th-rate and only take half or 1/3rd of the broadside. It's agility means it can always angle, and it's speed means it can disengage to recover when damaged. And 4 bow chasers means it can always hunt down other ships that try to disengage to repair. It is not hard to shoot the broadside off a Hercules that sails parallel to you at a reasonable distance for your guns to all be able to fire at it, but the Hercules rarely fights like that if the captain knows what he's doing.

Personally I'm not sure that I want clan-flags to be added... As more historical flags will be added to the current flag DLC, a clan that wants their flag to be a kind of uniform can select a historical flag that they all carry. And in either case, a clan-flag DLC would be in competition to the current DLC that we got. Also, however stringent they were with the approval of clan-flags, I can't help but think that there would be a lot of weird and in-authentic clan-flags flying about. For one thing it's hard to deny, on somewhat arbitrary grounds, the flag design of someone that already paid a significant price for the clan-flag DLC. In short, I'm in no hurry for clan-flags to be added.

Stealing is okay? Vic le Viking steals loot from battle
Anolytic replied to Draymoor's topic in Tribunal - Трибунал
Wait? What is this tribunal really about? He joined on the enemy side. It should have given you the idea that he wasn't there with friendly intent. Now, we can have a discussion about the ability to run around in free basic cutters with unlimited repairs and annoy people, but that is a mechanics discussion. There is nothing whatsoever for the tribunal in this topic. There was no stealing. Enemy players have every right to loot their sunken allies. He could have done the same in a lynx or requin or even pickle. Your job in any battle is to sink your enemies, whatever ship they may be in. By naming a player in the tribunal you are levelling a charge and implying their wrongdoing. There should be a high bar to do this, and should not be done without substantial proof and reference to a rule that was actually broken. -
Obviously. But that's not OPs complaint. If you look at the list there is two players with exactly 1580 BR and 10 kills. Yet one of them is ranked above the other, and inexplicably, the player who took more battles to get achieve that BR is ranked above the player that took fewer battles (likely meaning more effective/higher difficulty).

Maybe we'll get another DLC with clan-flags someday. Until and unless we do that, the suggestion doesn't make sense. Randomly adding a HRE-flag to the Swedish nation. Then I would like a Norwegian flag for Russian Empire, because..you know...I'm Norwegian and I play for Russia.
-
I'm very happy that the Flag DLC was finally released and I thought that for those that are still on the fence about buying it, it would be good to see all of the flags that are available for each nation. I will try to update this topic as more flags are added to the DLC. Britain: USA: (Cambridge flag missing) Dutch: Spain: Denmark: Sweden: Commonwealth: Prussia: Pirates: Russia: French:

I just noticed something: These plates are both labelled "Plate 3". There's Plate 1, Plate 3, Plate 3 and Plate 4.

That may be your opinion on how politics would suit you better in a game, but that doesn't mean we don't have politics now. The game doesn't have to hardcode diplomacy. That put's too much restraint on players in my view, and most people didn't like it back when we did have hardcoded diplomacy. This is an MMO, but it is also and RPG, and that means we make the world come alive ourselves, by adding content to it. We used to have people make newspapers, video reports and captain's logbook-entries on the forum. It doesn't have to just be pew-pew and competitiveness. We can pour a little of our own creativity and fantasy into it. The economy is more than you give it credit for. But it is not perfect. Hopefully devs will keep working on the improvements they have announced. Personally I don't care if it's dynamic and "realistic". Implementing distances in trade and making it less based on nation capitals will be a big step forward in my view. And you can't have everything. Fortunately this is a combat and sailing game first and foremost, not a trading-game. There are some great single-player trading-games on the market. Naval Action doesn't need to compete with those. Just to be fair, and not making any assumptions about your tone or intent, I read your previous post pretty much how @Wraith read it.

The Christian VII has now been in-game for a couple of weeks. But in finite supply and only available to a lucky/dedicated few who grinded on the testbed. Already a lot of those ships that were redeemed by players have been sunk, reducing the finite number even more. And the players who still have theirs intact are in large part those who were too careful to even redeem theirs, let alone sail into dangerous waters. A ship that is impossible to replace becomes so rare in many players’ minds that they don’t even take it out of the wrapper (redeem it). Or they sell it, because they are too afraid they’ll get ganked and loose it for nothing. This reluctance to use the ship in open sea means that despite being a new ship, it doesn’t get tested a whole lot. I am sure devs put it through extensive tests before releasing it, but for one thing I was really looking forward to seeing it take part in and test its performance in PBs. Let alone the fact that there are no Port Battles anymore, but it seems beyond hope that the Christian will get a proper round of tests in PBs for as long as it is irreplaceable. I know that developers have talked about keeping the Christian a rare ship, even toyed with the idea of making the crafting permit a DLC. In my opinion the Christian is perhaps the most beautiful ship in the game now, and it should be front and center in the world, not hidden away and exclusive. Hard to attain, like any lineship, yes. But not limited. Moreover, this ship was a Community Voted ship. I joined this forum just in time to vote for it in the second round I think, and the prospect of sailing this particular ship in-game was at least 30% of my reason for buying the game in the first place. And I have felt each day of waiting since I started playing until I finally got my hands on it. I am just happy that I got my 3 redeemable ones, and I even bought a couple more, but I would argue that many players may feel, that by voting in the Community Vote, and waiting all this time for the ship to make it into the game, they are somehow entitled to it. That it should be available to all through the same means of crafting that most other ships are. That this was a ship we were asked if we wanted in the game, and when we voted yes, we were promised it would come to the game. And yes, devs have complied, but is it just a little bit unmusical that for players who voted for the ship, campaigned for the voting, maybe bought the game because of all the talk of this particular ship back then, there is another hurdle to actually sail it? Shouldn’t this ship, of all, be available equally to everybody. To me this ship was, indirectly, a major part of the promotion of the game. And devs are right to be particularly proud of this ship model. This ship should, going forward, be used prominently to promote the game. Not only did devs deliver beyond imagining on a community selected ship. The ship in all its details and beauty is a prime example of what you can see and sail when they buy this game. This ship alone could sell a lot more copies of Naval Action.

Your examples of what you are missing to call this a completed game are ridiculous. This game HAS national politics. It HAS international politics. This is the parts of the game that players generate in a sandbox multiplayer game like this. In no way would I want the game to do these things for us. If you don't take part in the politics that is your own fault. This is not a single player game. I've been taking part in politics in this game since day one. And the economy is also in the game already. It still needs some improvements, and what devs have stated about in this topic constitutes a major leap forward. A "realistic economy" in a game is a misnomer. It's not going to work unless some players are the winners and others are the loosers in the economy, and the loosers would just stop playing. We could do with a better economy, yeah. And we are getting it as devs are continuously working on improvements, as examplified in this very topic.

So I feel like this could just be a subtle hint by the moderation team that I report too many posts or something, but this is a new addition to the report function on the forum today: What if I want to report a comment that isn't okay? I can't untick that box, and there is no other option to choose. That option is selected by default. In my own opinion, whatever posts that I report, I do it precisely because they are not okay.

Patch 28 - Battle Ensigns - Flags Feedback.
Anolytic replied to admin's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
What about the Flag DLC enabling us to choose also what false flags we carry. I join pirate side in a battle, then I get one of the unique DLC flags of pirates instead of the standard pirate flag. It could even be random, so you could spawn in with any of the Pirate flags, including the standard flag. I feel it's anticlimactic every time I join a fight with another nation and my shiny nice flag that I paid hard earned cash for is disappeared. -

This is what other players are for. Aggressive NPC can't compensate for low online numbers. They can only compound the problem. -
Unless you are describing a different battle from the screenshots, this is wrong. You are the one who got tagged according to the screenshot, not Tricks. Not that it matters, but just for the record. The top name on the left side is always the tagger, and the top name on the right side is always the taggee.

Patch 28 - Battle Ensigns - Flags Feedback.
Anolytic replied to admin's topic in Patch Feedback and General discussions
Google led me here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:English_White_Ensign_1620.svg Now I'm not one to trust Wikipedia blindly, but this is what I had time to find for now. -
In this battle though you are the one who got tagged first. If there were multiple battles this is not shown in the OP. It is important to note that while the tribunal can investigate facts and game data and make judgements based on those, one cannot expect the tribunal to suss out the allegations beyond what is stated, or make interpretations of the accusations. You need to present all possible proof in the OP, and explain your allegations. Otherwise there is no case. It is understandable if there were several battles that you would not have screenshot of the first one before you realised he was (allegedly) griefing. However, then that needs to be explained in the OP. As it stands now all this tribunal shows is someone tagging an enemy and then presumably realising that they were too heavily outgunned (he could have thought that the two fleets were Indiamen, which would also have shown up as medium fleets). It also shows him running away just 3 minutes into the battle, so the OP gives no indication that a substantial amount of time was wasted.

There is no indication to suggest this will be true. If anything these devs could be criticised for prolonging the development time. They could have put a bow on what we got now and called it a release and sell it as a full product. Instead they are taking great pains to keep working on the game to bring it to a finished state. Saying that the game will be released in an unfinished state is pure and unfounded speculation. About DLC, I'm not the greatest fan of the four other DLCs, but the flag DLC I wholeheartedly support, and I'm more than happy to buy it even while the main game is not finished yet.

Flags, Flags, Flags - 2 - Flag proposals only
Anolytic replied to admin's topic in News Announcements & Important discussions
This is maybe more of a merchant flag, and I don't know to what extent it was flown from ships, but it definitely was, as per the third pic: The Russian-American Company may not have historically operated in the Caribbean, but then again, neither did the Russian Empire. This is as close as history gets to the Russian Empire we have in-game. This flag should definitely be added in my opinion. The company was chartered by Paul I in 1799 if I remember correctly, so it is within the timeline of the game. And so should some of these that I have mentioned before: Source: Book of the Charter of the Sea, 1780 print, Presidential Library. These flags were also definitely used in the timeperiod of the game.- 213 replies

Great! Can we have some more info on this? Interesting. Will the design change in any way, or is it just the content that will be updated? I think the Battle UI is quite good at the moment. It may not be totally in line with the rest of the UI, but it is very functional. Can't wait! I've been looking forward to this DLC for a long time now. Does this mean I can translate the UI into Norwegian and share it on the forums? This will improve trading immensely. One of the biggest problems now is that most ports consume nothing. Meaning that on every trade journey your traders are likely to go empty one way. So you only make profit on the return journey. This sounds very interesting. As long as there is good enough profit in the grain and maize trade. So that it's not some poor traders bringing he resources to buff production in a port for no reward, and then the rest of the nation or a bunch of alts reap all the benefits. These ports should pay well enough for the basic resources that it is actually a viable option to spend time on the supply runs. Could this supply also help those county captials to spawn a small amount of consumables (repairs)? What exactly does this mean? P...L...E....A....S....E.. NOOO! I remember aggressive AI. They were never anything but a huge pain.
