Ahoi,

So i am Master Commandant right now. I have done pleeeeeeenty of missions already :)

I would like to discuss the inbalance of NPC ships.

After so many battles, it is starting to get a me a bad feeling, when i see a npc surprise, with 1 mast left, plenty of dead crew, but still turning like a cutter and shooting like a fortress.

From what i think, is that npcs have almost no penalty from lost crew members, and they got a superior boost to maneuverability and speed. They zick zacking in front of my renomee while i go straight and only can almost catch up.

An other thing i am very disliking is, that NPC ships while boarded, still using their cannons to shoot at allys outside of the boarding. But i guess boarding itself would take an seperate topic to discuss, cause boarding gets so often interrupted without any reason for it.

While i dont mind about the difficult level, i have a problem with ships that got such different stats/performance. If you (devs) want a mission to be hard, then pls just give us bigger enemys, or more. And not boost ship stats into the air.

If ppl now come and tell me im wrong, surprises without masts are supposed to be still like a cutter (even player sailed), then i have to ask if the mechanic itself is out of control?

I hope to find some ppl that agree with me on this point, and that we can discuss about it. Maybe even a dev is reading it and tell us their opinion on it.

Thanks in Advance

See you on the sea!

You are a renommee, you are one of the fastest, if not the fastest ship in the game if you head downwind. Plus you are more maneuverable than nearly all frigates. Catching a Surprise should be no big effort.

The AI to me don't seem over powered in anyway, as long as you know how your ship works, how their ships works and learn to aim/use manual tacking properly, you can out turn and out gun all AI.

I understand from other posts that the current balance of npcs is tilted so as to pose more of a challenge for vet players from the sea trials period. Unfortunately, there is now a huge influx of new players who find these new settings a real challenge and which, in turn, makes progression more of a slog than it needs to be.

@ashlay:  all i can say to you, maybe read it again, and think about your answer.

@Joe spivey: i get what you say. and that is exactly the point that i dont like (what ashley didnt got). why not just give us more or bigger enemys? i just dont like to see ships being pushed so far over their stats. i think each ship should have the same stats (except different qualitis and fittings), either a player sails it or an npc.

And i dont have any problems completing my missions or making progress. if the devs want this system, ok. i can still play it and lvl up just fine. but it doesnt feel right for me to see those overboosted npc ships.

In fact, i think they have overdone it, fights were more interesting, even if still epics, last year in august/september...
