maturin Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 So the gun deck is 22 guns of frigate caliber. Sounds more like a smallish two-decker 5th Rate with extra light guns stuffed into the upper works.
Lonar Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Looks good, but it looks like it is riding a bit high in the water. Better that then a second Cerberus (back guns almost below the water) ...
akd Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Better that then a second Cerberus (back guns almost below the water) ... Cerberus should not have guns in that location (ditto Renommee, Surprise, Brig / Navy Brig). I don't think anything is wrong with her waterline. 2
LeBoiteux Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Cerberus should not have guns in that location (ditto Renommee, Surprise, Brig / Navy Brig). On the Cerberus, one might remove those 2 guns and add 2x2 guns (6-pdr* ?) on the quarterdeck. * historically 3-pdr, right ? 1
Mirones Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 some of these places are armed to simulate rolling guns out of the stern windows. this way we dont have to model it. 1
akd Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 some of these places are armed to simulate rolling guns out of the stern windows. this way we dont have to model it.No. There is no reason to think that. Surprise already has 2x valid stern chasers on quarterdeck, and many ships have no stern chasers at all, but would be just as able to bring guns to bear through the stern windows. These are simply hatches mistaken for gunports. And yes, Cerberus had 3pdr quarterdeck guns historically. 2
LeBoiteux Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Cerberus should not have guns in that location (ditto Renommee, Surprise, Brig / Navy Brig). The same might happen to the French Hermione : - WIP pic shows 30 + 8 (on the quarterdeck) guns - her original armament was 26 + 6 guns (from Boudriot)

The purpose of swivel guns is to kill sailors visible on their deck : Quote Swivel guns were used principally aboard sailing ships, serving as short-range anti-personnel ordnance. They were not ship-sinking weapons, due to their small caliber and short range, but could do considerable damage to anyone caught in their line of fire. They were especially useful against deck-to-deck boarders, against approaching longboats bearing boarding parties, and against deck gun crews when ships were hull-to-hull. I guess swivel guns favor ships with higher deck to the detriment of the smaller ships, doesn't they ? My question to devs : are swivel guns to be expected on other ships, especially small ones ? The currently in-game ones ? New ones like the Pandora ? Will there be cutters with swivel guns ? Some, all ? Reserved to pirates ? Etc. Nice addition, IMHO. 1 hour ago, rediii said: Depends how they are implemented. If they fire automaticly i see quitr some friendly fire. George Washington Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 (edited) Crew hitboxes hidden behind armor, so? Still don’t get how better it can be. Or does it means if I load main deck with grape + swivels = x2 crew damage when armor is broken? Edited October 26, 2017 by George Washington
Hodo Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 Swivel guns have been in game for a while. There is a boarding mod called "boarding cannons". It is probably just a visual representation of that in game. More flash than function. 1
z4ys Posted October 27, 2017 Posted October 27, 2017 (edited) Or pirates get proper mechanic. They can refit ships instead of crafting them. Noooooo to good to be true. Edited October 27, 2017 by z4ys 3

Your crew could visit a brothel, tavern etc. and get interesting bonuses. Make port NPCs sell based on how often a trader visits the port and brings certain goods or on what buildings in the town produce something. 2
