Destraex Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I feel like I am just watching the AI do whatever it wants. I am not playing the game it's just like I am a spectator. I cannot keep units where I want properly without them being vulnerable. When I leave them they try to do whatever they want. to a certain extent this is welcome. But in the grand scheme of things it often means I have no control over the battle. I guess if you give us control that the AI becomes dead like total war AI?
Feretier Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 The current system force us to constanlty watch whats appening everywhere and this is good in my opinion . And as you say "we" do not want dead AI like Total War witch is why i stop playing the game .... i like the current system very much. This is only my opinion.
David Fair Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 You can target enemy units by clicking on your unit then right clicking on the target unit. Note that if you target an enemy unit that is not in the LOS of an artillery unit it will move toward the target until it can fire - at least theoretically. This feature needs work because sometimes the artillery battery will advance into the targeted unit - resulting into the destruction of the artillery battery.
lotharr51 Posted June 17, 2014 Posted June 17, 2014 I think unit AI should be a toggle. Sometimes I want my guys to take care of themselves and other times I want to micro them a bit more.
soccercw Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I'm conflicted on this one....on one hand I love that units can act a little themselves, no different than actual brigades would on the spot without their division commander standing over them. I'd want them to react to attacks and situations while I'm attending other ends of the field. On the other hand, the choices they make sometimes are atrocious. Nothing is worse than setting a nice position, going to another end of the field, and coming back to find your brigades moved off the highground into a valley and found themselves getting flanked. I think if the "hold" button forced the unit to not move at all (except for facing) that would fix the issue. Or an additional button was added to make sure they don't manuever themselves off the spot you placed them.
David Fair Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 Unit facing and position can be fixed in place to ensure your defensive lines remain coherent.
squishband Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Unit facing and position can be fixed in place to ensure your defensive lines remain coherent. I believe you, I'd just like to know how! ;-)
David Fair Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Hi Richard, Have you read the manual? I know this worked to fix unit position and facing in a previous version(s) of the game. I haven't tested in the most recent release so I'm not certain this is current. See: Special Controls Hold: Select a unit and press Hold button. Your unit will hold position and formation until it receives new orders or withdraws due to low morale. Alternative: Select a unit and press Ctrl.
