Ionaxe Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 I am new to the game and I just realized that if I switch between the two different servers, I only retain my XP. I am assuming the PvP servers are geared toward players interested in fighting each other and there might be more of the traditional MMO politics built in. However, is there anything in either game mode that the other doesn't have? For instance, if I join the PvP servers, can I still do all the missions that I could have done in PvE? I'm just assuming there will be a greater possibility of PvP combat in the PvP server. Also, can someone tell me or guide me to somewhere where I can read about each nation's ships will be different from each other, like strengths and weaknesses. Thanks.
SirSamuelHood Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 PvP has everything, PvE has no player on player. If you join PvP you'll still have NPCs to fight and missions to do, but you will be open for attack by players of opposing nations (Though I've found it generally doesn't happen unless you go looking for trouble, i.e. sailing past mortimer town while on 'dead slow' speed). IMHO on a PvP server you'd have a lot more fun. The population density and clans are nice, and fighting against players (some of whom are damn good at this) will guarantee a different combat experience than 'sink the predictable NPC.' It's all up to what you're in to, though. 2
OlavDeng2 Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 1. what the post above me said 2. there is nothing nation specific atm apart from some things that are being produced(like batavian spices)

JJWolf Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 If you have kids you will appreciate PvE while they are awake...
Anarcke Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 If you have kids you will appreciate PvE while they are awake... I can confirm, that's the main reason i play on the pve server. 2
Ghroznak Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 1. what the post above me said 2. there is nothing nation specific atm apart from some things that are being produced(like batavian spices) This is a bit off topic, but since the OP had his questions answered already I figure it might slide... How can you get access to the products from other nations for trading (on PvE server)? I play for Denmark-Norway, and unable to dock at several towns... I tried the spanish ports... nope.... tried british ports... nope... tried swedish ports... nope. Seems almost everywhere I can't dock, except the neutral towns and free towns. So how to get swedish iron for instance? I think this really screws up the whole trading system since you end up having a bunch of smaller markets operating within themselves, rather than an actual open world market where traders can go anywhere to sell their goods. Then again, I am asking because I feel like I either missed something entirely... or the system is simply not allowing me, ever, to enter those ports.

Ghroznak Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 untill then every nation is at war and you cant enter other nations ports. No wonder I can't dock anywhere... I thought there were some alliances at play... following some historic events.. like Napoleonic wars. I was trying to dock in Spanish and French ports cause I was thinking, hey, Denmark-Norway was allied with Napoleon and the French... so why won't these arrogant herringbrains allow me to enter??? Now I know...
Admiral 8Q Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 So let me get this straight, if you switch servers, you lose everything except xp?I'm on PvE now and I noticed that "friendly fire" causes no damage. The problem I had as a newb starting in PvP was getting "teamkilled".That is why I switched to PvE.
Anarcke Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Yes, if you switch servers, you lose everything except xp. Honestly, you can find a new ship quite easily, strating from a cutter, you can board a brig, and frome there a navy brig/ merc, and after that a cerberus. I think in 1-2 hours you can be in a cerberus. As for the money, well, traders are a good way to earn some gold.
Tindahbawx Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 IIRC there is no port battles in PVE If theres no Player on Player combat and theres no Port flipping, what on earth are you supposed to do on a PvE server? sounds dull!
Archer11 Posted February 6, 2016 Posted February 6, 2016 Switched from PvE to PvP EU 3 yesterday evening. Lost my gold (knew that beforehand so no complaining, and I made already some money again) and my redeemed ships, because previously I had only logged into PvP2 once and not in PvP1. No complaining either, my fault and I do not really miss these ships. For me the biggest difference between PvE and PvP so far are the news. Swedish captured that, others something else and than suddenly a lot of talk in the chat about a piratefleet between Port Antonio and Port Morant, just when I sailed there in my cutter on the way to a mission. When I came out of the mssion, I saw some battles of up to 15 British ships against some pirates others waiting for pirates dropping out of the battles. Just great. I love this game.
