hi,

so my buddy and I started playing NA a couple of days ago. Usually, we form a group but get slowly but surely to the point where we could consider forming a clan. The question is, what are the benefits of forming a clan? Will we get more experience and gold from battles? Will there be a shared warehouse like later in potbs? We basically wonder if we should invest the 100k gold when our main goal is to gain experience?

Edit:

is there somewhere a quick questions/quick answers thread?

Same question I was just about to ask.

Just a side note from myself, that 100k is a pain in the ass (im saving up for it).

Clans only add two things in this game at the moment.  A tag, and a chat room.  A clan warehouse is very close to release (said in the Q&A) just figuring out a way to make sure its not beneficial for officers to steal from them.

Although the other 'meta' benefits are huge.  Playing with experienced players, and sharing resources for crafting, doing port battles together etc.  Are the real reason clans exist at the moment.

Clans are the most usefull thing that can happen to you in this game, however it's not the tag, it's the community. Only in a clan can you make a good chain of supply for crafters and in return actually produce enough ships for fighting captains, only a clan can navigate the messy waters of sandbox diplomacy and so only a clan will make port conquest really meaningfull. So don't bother with a tag for you and your buddy, just find a community that suits you both.

Yes this very much but make sure you ask question before just jumping into one. With out the proper leadership clans can just be a band of ships that never do much.

I think a band of friends that you meet in-game could form a clan eventually. Or eventually meeting up with people from a clan with the same mindset and goals. My advice is don't jump on the "Clan wagon".
