Instead of making it the hardest faction, in the words of another forumer made it simpleton mode instead.

Why did you cave in to them developers?

What is the point in being a pirate if their is nothing unique offered by it?

How long before the developers cave in and go with a pay 2 win model?

if you dont mind me asking, when did the devs cave in? i have seen no such thing, i think why they said it was hardest was because of everyone vs everyone thing, however due to port battles and organisation of pirates that did not happen. The only reason why pirates are easy mode atm is because there are many of them, just like with the english, are you going to complain about english being easy mode now too?

edit: would you mind also telling me how they caved in? between pirates being introduced and now it has pretty much been the same, they have just been another nation(of course id like to see that change, but that is an entirely different discussion)

I'm sorry, you what?

That was pretty uncalled for, IMO.

We already have more than one significant thread on pirates.  Please use that thread.

As to Game Labs' stance on pirates, here is what I posted in the main pirates thread:

Pirates are currently implemented as a nation where you can attack your own nation-mates.  Once Pirate-v-Pirate XP and Gold are removed (coming very shortly), they will be just like any other nation out there, just with a black flag and the ability to kill each other without game-enforced penalties.  They have ports, they can capture ports, they can lose ports.  They're basically a nation.

The Pirate Nation (I'm going to call it that, because it's basically Great Britain with the ability to kill each other) is the second largest (maybe soon to be the first largest) in the game.  I don't think you'll have any troubles with having territory to play with and plenty of black flags around.  They're not necessarily all friends, but they're fairly well integrated and operate as a single body as of the end of the closed testing period.

As to balance and realism, the game is as realistic as possible while still being fun to play - that's the goal.  When I spoke with Admin about Pirates a few days ago, his response was effectively: What if the British had failed in their bid to end Piracy in the Caribbean?  What if a bunch of pirates truly had banded together and held territory there?  We bandy about realism as if history is the sole definition of realism.  In true reality, certain things happened historically because certain factors failed to materialize - battles were lost, leaders were betrayed, resources were dedicated or squandered at key moments.  This game is designed to allow pirates, if they're numerous enough, and coordinated enough, to take a fair portion of the Caribbean and hold it against all comers.  Those who want "History" to happen, instead of "Realism" would effectively, as of the current game mechanics, be advised to band together to make Pirates so universally hunted and held down and oppressed by all other nations that "History" can indeed happen.  If you want "History" regarding pirates to happen in Naval Action, then you'll need to take every effort to ensure that being a Pirate is so un-fun that they all re-roll.  If you're a pirate, you'll want to try and form a large enough coalition to prevent that from happening.

Naval Action is, as much as possible, a Sandbox. There is no rock/paper/scissors/lizard/spock - everyone has access to the same technology, the same tools, and the same potential territories and resources.  That means it's up to the players to either enforce "History", or to forge their own "Reality" for the Caribbean.  You have the tools, the ships, the capabilities, now go grab your friends, your Nationals, form Alliances, and use your power to enforce your own personal view of history and reality upon the game world.

Good hunting Captains.

For now, that is Game Labs' stance.  There is no "caving".  That is the stance.

Before questioning others' courage, I would suggest that you put up your own time and fortune to make a game.  Personal attacks on the developers will not be tolerated.
