I know both ships are close to the cut off time, but I think they should be added. I have seen them both mentioned in various threads as more of a side note to other ships being added.

Thoughts?

Edit

Realized this was posted in wrong section by accident, can it be moved to correct section please?

earlier ships than the timeline, i dont mind, however later ships will start to open things up to power creep(case in point, war thunder, first they had a set time line no matter what, no later that 1953, look at the mess now?(ok it isnt too bad, but it still is present))

While I beleive the current cut off date is 1820, you have to be very careful not to mess up game balance with power creep making lower tiers completely redundant.

Personally, I think it better that the game not become one where everyone aims for the highest tier and thats all that is ever seen. It is unavoidable to a certain extent I know, most people would rather fight in a heavy frigate or a ship of the line. However, if a useful role could be created or maintained for smaller and lower tier ships, the game would not only be better for it, but it would also be far more representative of the period. While countries built these magnificent first rates they could field very few at once, the bulk of their navies were made up of frigates and smaller.

well, third rates actually, but indeed first rates were a rare sight, and i think the devs are striving towards making first rates more rare.

Then why have a timeline cutoff of 1820 if you are only willing to accept ships no later than 1810 or 15 etc.

In your concerns about power creep.

There are no ships that are invulnerable to the right mix of teamwork and tactics.

Edit, said 2810 instead of 1810 lol.

I don't see why they would not be added, more ship diversity is what a lot of people want.

We need other nation ships first before we get US sols.

I think every nation should have at least one SOL represented, so there is equal choice amongst them. Not everyone has an intrest in British SOL's.

As much as I do want to see a US SOL in the game, the US has a bit of saturation in the current ship line up. Spanish ships need to be added. Swedish, Danish, and Dutch ships need to be added. We need more diversity in the lower tiers where many player will be spending their time as they work their way up. We need 4th rates, to add more diversity up there besides the Connie.

But all that being said, yes I do believe that at least 1 US built SOL that fits in the timeline should be added, and it should be chosen to fit well with the other lineup. I'd say the USS Washington for the following reasons:

- a 74 gun 3rd rate type ship which was the standard SOL in most navies of the time, and I think 74s will prove to be versatile and cost effective late tier ships in NA.

- was launched in 1814 so fits within the time limit of 1820

- unlike the America which was given to the French, the Washington spent nearly 3 years service in the Mediterranean.

just my 2 cents though

Let's not.

The US SoL are ugly and saw no service within the wars covered by Naval Action, yet are likely to dominate due to being 1820* ships competing against opponents 40-70 years older in design.

Of course, we could add French and British rivals from 1820 to counter the Ohio etc, but I don't really want to go down that route. Bellonas, Temeraires etc, much better looking ships that saw vastly more combat service, so how about we don't make them obsolete, ok?

*The three US SoL built 1814-15 don't count, they were useless as SoL because design errors meant that they sat too low in the water to use their main gundecks in anything but a dead calm.

with HP and armor being pure balancing stats to my knowledge i personaly dont see the problem but im no ship expert either

as for smaller ships being renderd redundant a gamey but effective way to make them usefull is to introduse more port depths

as it stands we have shallow and deep ports simply put something inbetween and the 5th/4th rates would have their own playground

There will be more American ships, but there are also plenty of other Nations that still need more Ships, be patient, each Nation will get some love in time. The only 4th Rate in the game right now is an American Ship, the Connie, it's an awesome ship too.
