I was transporting my entire warehouse (literally a full trade snow) from Coquibacoa to my newly secured outpost in Jeremie, when I was attacked in the middle of the ocean by a Dutch harasser, traveling by means of a Cutter. The cutter (with carronades...) was barely in battle range when he initiated, and not much closer after the timer popped. The poor chap didn't even have the wind, but a second assailant in a Snow joined, not yet on the horizon when the Cutter ran out her guns. So, after giving the Cutter some advice, I left battle before the Snow brought her longs to bear. I knew better than to leave the battle screen immediately, and so waited and worked on my spreadsheet a bit before exiting -- only to find myself running aground on Amalienbourg, in the Dutch-controlled British Virgin Islands, not a very inviting place for a British fully loaded trade ship.

After realizing where I was, and the prevailing winds coming from the West (where I wanted to go), I sailed until another Cutter decided to take his shot at my prize. I had no trouble showing him my stern disappearing in the distance, seeing him begin to initiate as I did, by getting the wind on him before the battle had commenced (will players realize I'm not an NPC with the in-game name "poison"?). After I left that screen, without waiting to see where I would be teleported next on this tour-de-force of the Caribbean, I see a Cerberus not too far off in the distance...manned by a player. Mentally preparing myself to lose all I could gather in two weeks of terrible port goods selection and the Gods of Random not showing me favor (too much), I steeled myself and my crew for the worst.

Then, the player in the Cerberus by the name of Arky hailed me, and welcomed me to Dutch waters. I told him briefly that my ship ran adrift post-battle, and he commiserated by keeping a lookout behind me, ensuring no players would try to do me harm. This was more than I would've asked for, and more than I expected. As I pass south of La Mona, I simply wish to thank him for aiding me in my exodus of the (Dutch-owned) British Virgin Islands on this sightseeing voyage.

EDIT: fixed Captain's name.

Thank you for that case study of how player haulers aren't truly at risk.

You could have gotten away from that cerb easy as well, but your story is better with that compassionate Samaritan.
