Dear Devs

Right now loving the game, played days on end and have quite frankly spent perhaps too much time playing (and enjoying it)

However, I hear on the British chat that game wipes in future are potentially still on the cards.

I was just wondering if you could tell us if/ when you would ever consider a wipe of the servers, whether you intend to do one before the full game's release or only as a precaution if a patch/ new feature doesn't come off as intended.

As I said, I really enjoy your game and am having a blast, but just want to clarify how much time I really should put in before the game reaches final release; it would be gutting to spend all this time amassing a fortune in my perfidious privateering sessions to suddenly log in one day to find all my rotten gotton  goods absent from my store room!

Thanks for the game and keep up the good work!

P.S if in wrong topic forum, sorry!

You will keep your xp forever. They might wipe the craft xp, though I pray desperately to the pig cloud they won't.

With rank and crafting level worldly treasures come easy.

(Ninja'd by admin, dammit!) :D

It's good that exp data will be saved, still sad about losing my monies but if it's to keep the game fair on release I guess it's not too bad. I could always just join master and commander missions in my cutter!

Thanks for the info

Edit: in terms of the traders that spend their time amassing fortunes, would it be possible just before the wipe to exchange gold for exp?

I would sort of base it on this model:

-typical cutter mission battle win on ensign = 2000 gold and 50xp, therefore 2000 gold=50 exp. However, to balance this lets treble it so 6000 gold= 50exp, or 3 missions, about an hours worth of game time.

-Located in port royal would be a one time npc trainer who will give you exp in exchange for gold.

-if I wanted say 5000 exp (master and commander level I believe), I would pay 600,000 gold.

This way, the traders and crafters will have had their work rewarded during the alpha, without making their rewards exceed the work of players that actually fought for their exp. Even the guys that fought with their exp can in theory cash in if they've saved enough money, so everybody wins!

It's not "too" unrealistic either.

However, the devs would have to balance it out before implementing, otherwise we could end up unfairly levelling up some players over others.

It's just an idea so that traders and privateers have a reason to expand and improve the economy and not just stick to missions for the exp boost

Now that i know theres more future wipes planned...

I think ill spend alot less time in game

You keep your exp which is about the only thing that is difficult to obtain. Hopefully crafters keep their exp though.

The issue I have with the exp not resetting but taking our gold is missioning. How will it work as a Lt. Commander trying to pull a mission in a basic cutter with 4lb guns?

As stated everywhere this game is in early access..
Go look on the suggestion forums at all the things people want in this game, to be honest the whole economy in my opinion is a placeholder.  They are looking to introduce mines, factories and shipyards.  When this change occurs and you can produce your own iron for eg. or as well deepwater ships can only be built at shipyard you have at deep water ports etc etc..
There will be a need for a asset wipe. To balance out the whole open world.

I dont suspect this is comming anytime 'too soon' due to the influx of players wanting a range of other things introduced. Im sure the devs dont want to do a soft wipe that quickly as well due to it causing all players to take pitch forks over to Ukraine, but i completely understand the neccesity for a soft wipe when massive changes to the game occur.

It does not deter me one bit, and as anyone else knows so far who spends a lot of time in game at the moment.  Gold is cheap...XP is not...
