Can someone clarify how Pvp battles work? I was in one the other day and being the last survivor on my team decided it would be a good idea to run. I was told that you cannot retreat from Pvp battles.

Seems a bit harsh, is that correct?

Let's clarify.

If you're in a Small Battle, or Large Battle event, accessed from the Missions tab in port, it's considered impolite to just run in order to run.  You've joined the instance voluntarily, with the idea that you're going to fight your ship.  Get in there and fight it.  That's not to say YOLO (you don't have to make a suicide charge), and not running doesn't mean attempting to cut other ships from the herd chasing you so you can cut them up, but just running to run out the timer is a little unsportsmanlike in a lot of people's eyes.  It's not that you can't, but it is looked down upon.

If you're in Open World, and someone jumps you, feel free to run away all you like.  That's Open World for you - if they can't make the tag stick, it's not your problem.  Run until you get the "Can Leave" message, and feel free to leave.

Marking people "escaped" after they have been sunk and leave fight is not very informative though. Battle where you can lose your ship and most of your team shows "escaped" easily gives the impression one can actually escape from battle. I think most cutter running is done because of that.

Also, I would find it reasonable to have some way of actually escaping after certain point, be it completely hopeless odds, long enough outside the fight and heavily damaged, sail outside the area, enough time passed or some combination. Or just end the battle after certain disparity between the teams?

It just doesn't feel right to slug it off with sailships when you can not hope to win anymore, escape to save the ship should really be the right choice at that point IMO. Give only half the XP for escaped ships to encourage fighting to the bitter end, but not force it, maybe?

Or if not anything else, at least clear message that there is no escape, only victory or swim.

Good explaination Mr. Darby. I remember many passionate entries on the subject of fleeing or kiting. But to describe the distinction between Large/Small Battles and OW Battles is helpful

In the Large/Small Battles " You've joined the instance voluntarily, with the idea that you're going to fight your ship. Get in there and fight it. ".

Can you elaborate on what you mean by "and not running doesn't mean attempting to cut other ships from the herd chasing you so you can cut them up,"?

MR Darby, Rats has reason. Its not very right to read "escaped" because he isnt escaped, he is  underwater lol :)

You should change the name for a simple "SUNK" oe perhaps "DEFEATED" something like that.

this is just a suggestion.

Yeah I agree, it should say either SUNK/ Surrendered / captured, as there is no escape possible!

Possibly add a "Scuttle "option for the last captain afloat, who just wants to end their battle without surrendering haha
