Missions - You get them in port, in the "Missions" tab and in the centre you should see "request" button, those missions you get are below, same or above your level by one.

Basically they give extra bonus exp and ogld for completing them.

Hope this helps ^^'

I grinded away on the small battles (under the missions screen). Less sailing around to find markers on the map, straight into the fight from a queue. Just use a cutter (free to replace) and get into a shootout, rinse and repeat. I average 80-120 XP per battle.

But echoing what overs have said, enjoy the smaller ships. The sixth rates (NavyBrig, Snow, Mercury) are a lot of fun and not as expensive as the bigger ships to replace. So you can feel a little more cavalier in your style of play.

If you want to sail on a small ship that feels like a true frigate, try the Snow. Just looks like a proper frigate, even though it isn't one.

I have not tried the small battles but I will say once you start doing Ensign missions (second level) so to speak. The amount of money and xp starts going up nicely. Also I had some nice loot and upgrade drops that you can sell from anything up too 20k in port. Remember you get money and xp based on how much damage you do in your mission + the mission reward.

REally do Small battles like said Jon Allen. Very fast, not problems in wait for find the place, and if you use the cutter you wont loss any. Great experience and great fun!

I don't think its that slow to be honest. You need to learn the mechanics of the battle game as you rank up. I would prefer to be wasting free cutters learning how to beat the AI before I bring an expensive 1 dura ship to one of those battles. I still need to play some PVP as well as the P's are going to react completely differently to the E's.
