Question on Inventory

Newb question incoming!

 

So been sailing for a while now, sunk my share of pirates. Now sometimes when you sink them you get some loot. I transfer those to my hold..they take up space. I get it.

 

Now sometimes they drop upgrades. These go in a special upgrade inventory. But they aren't an upgrade to my ship and they don't take up any space. Is this inventory tied to the character or the ship? Is there a limit to how many you can have?

They are tied to the character. You can have as many as fit in the upgrades box.

I just learned that you can teleport between outposts with upgrades too.
