admin Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Captains! We are deploying an emergency hot fix for the critical exploit found by the players. Servers had to be stopped before this exploit could cause damage to the community. Servers will go back online within 10-20 mins from this announcement. Special thanks to Captains Brogsitter and Konali for the reports. 13
mirror452 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 What exactly was the exploit, if I may ask?
Deepgift Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) What exactly was the exploit, if I may ask? Then people will try and find a workaround for the fix.... Not likely we will get a full explanation But props to the devs for acting so fast Edited January 27, 2016 by Deepgift 1

Bart Smith Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Something very serious all i can say. Everybody should be glad that was discovered so early.
mirror452 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Then people will try and find a workaround for the fix.... Not likely we will get a full explanation That's why I formulated the question so carefully. But I would still be interested, since it could maybe help to uncover similar issues. EDIT: Ok, nevermind. I understand that it cannot be talked about Edited January 27, 2016 by mirror452
Valgard Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Just shows how commited the devs and community are in creating a good game. Cheers for that 1
t0bbl3r Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I heard rumors some guys made a huge amout of money with it. No possibilites for a rollback? But anyway tht for fixing it anyways so fast
James T Skoll Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Why rollback and inconvenience everyone? Just let them have their money, the game is EA and you're supposed to find ( and fix ) stuff like that. Overall, it makes little difference.
Suenami Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 The devs seem to really care about their game ....very good job ! Greetings from Germany !
Edmund Pullings Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 No need for rollback. Things will be "soft" wiped eventually anyway. Just warn/suspend players who blatantly abused it. 2
Jacob van Heemskerck Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I thought if you are deliberately exploiting a glitch or bug, your assets and rank would be reset?! 2
Konali89 Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 This bug//exploit was so critical that whomever did gain from it will most likely see something be done about it. Eventhough it is EA, it is so cricital it tips the scale of the economics so badly:) 3
Edmund Pullings Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 If that is indeed the case, then they should be punished accordingly.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I heard rumors some guys made a huge amout of money with it. No possibilites for a rollback? But anyway tht for fixing it anyways so fast Those rumors were false. Everything is logged, and all incidents of usage of the exploit were reported to the developers. Why rollback and inconvenience everyone? Just let them have their money, the game is EA and you're supposed to find ( and fix ) stuff like that. Overall, it makes little difference. This is not how it works. If you find an exploit that will benefit you (say, you click things a certain way and XP magically appears, or you can duplicate a ship or item without going through the market or crafting, or what have you) and you use this exploit repeatedly, or tell friends so that they can use it repeatedly - this is patently against the rules. Anyone finding such an issue MUST report it immediately to the Developers and stop using it. Abusing exploits will not be tolerated - you risk having your assets and progressed wiped if you abuse an exploit. 7
Mighty Bouff Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 if it has been accidently used (one off) then take away then consider removing the assets/XP but if it isn't a significant amount then let it slide, if its been deliberately farmed to maximise whatever the effect is then strip everything away or just delete the character with zero notice and force them to start again. You have to send a strong message from the very start when it is a (semi) open marketplace. 3

Eventhough it is EA, it is so cricital it tips the scale of the economics so badly:) There is a F11 report button for a reason, so keelhaul would be the appropiate punishment in this case from bow to stern!! 1
Gatsu Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) Then people will try and find a workaround for the fix.... Not likely we will get a full explanation But props to the devs for acting so fast Isn't it a good thing if we find workarounds to fixes so they can be properly fixed? I came here just to learn what the exploit was, out of curiosity. Edited January 27, 2016 by Gatsu
SYN_Bloody-Bandy Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 (edited) In many cases "exploits" involve the discovery or leak of certain game codes that allow unhindered testing by the developers or reliable alpha testers, basically things like god modes getting into the wild. In this case who knows, us plebs likely never will, but the rumours will fly... Oh, they already have... Events like this need to be quashed immediately (and they have, bravo!) because once the reputation of a game is tarnished, well... Edited January 27, 2016 by SYN_Bloody-Bandy
Morashtak Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 I thought if you are deliberately exploiting a glitch or bug, your assets and rank would be reset?! If you are without reporting it then yes. But most likely what happened was that someone didn't notice it the first time around, finally saw something wasn't right, asked around, other tried it and successfully reproduced the error, and finally the bug report with full details was submitted AND THEN no one talked about it or used it again. If that is correct then it was proper bug testing and reporting so the players should be rewarded. In other games players have found an exploitable bug in alpha/beta but did not report it. When the game went live they then exploited the bug far beyond any sane level (ex. Elder Scrolls Online item duplication bug). Players have been given severe smackdowns over this. TL:DR Find a bug. Replicate it. Report it. Don't Use it. 2
