Mukai Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Hey guys loving the game so far just got myself a snow and was wondering how I should load it up? Should I put long or medium guns on it? Carronades? I know the longs have better range but slower reloads so are they generally what I should be going for? I don't know much about the cannons in this game.
Henrik Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Some people like to "snipe" from a distance however many have trouble hitting the enemy at range so it all depends on what you yourself are good/comfortable with! Many go with guns that do the most damage at closer range, carronades!
ParaBellum Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 (edited) Depends on playstyle and situation. I prefer carronades on ships smaller than frigates because the engagement ranges are usually quite small and at close distances carronades do substantially more damage than cannons. The longer reload of the carronades are no problem if you constantly turn to fire off both broadsides. I would fill the snow's broadsides with carronades and use some long bow chasers. This setup would do best in PvE. In PvP the lower speed of the Snow means a faster ship with cannons could kite a carronade Snow, so you might consider a different setup if you plan on mainly doing PvP. Spitzenhund Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Longs for PvP, Mediums for 1v2 PvE, Carronades for 1v1 PvE
Mukai Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Ok, I mainly do PvE missions and taking down traders, but occasionally do some PvP battles. I'll have two loadout setups so I'll use carronades for my PvE fights, I've noticed it tends to be pretty close range anyway. And I'll put longs on my bow chaser and mediums on my stern? Or longs again? And for PvP, is there a big difference in mediums and longs? Is there a main reason to use one of the other? I know mediums do a little extra damage (read it in a spreadsheet somewhere) reload a little faster, but don't have the range/accuracy of the longs. In your experience which has the better pro-to-con ratio? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get a feel for the loadouts
Leviathan Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 If you are doing only PvE then carronades will probably be best for you. The rest of the time it's situational and depends on you preference and experience. I prefer longs myself and usually swap between them and carronades depending what I am doing etc.
