alejo68 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Greeting first for all you members of this community. Basically I need a small push to press that button (I mean the purchase button on steam). Age of Sail is something I never was in before. I`m a huge fan of WW2 naval warfare (plus military flight sims). So you may get the idea of my taste. Anyway, immediatly after seeing the videos posted on Steam, I couldn`t but to say, waw, my jaw dropped, and the eyes fixed on that avalanche of beautiful images. I trully have to congratulate the developers for their job here. It is just an astounding piece of art what you did here, and it is easy to recognize that this is a sublime simulation of the topic made by people that just love what they are doing. But, money is never enough, there is alway something to do (lots of things to do! ) and it is worse when you find something right when you do not expect it. Dollars are not precisely cheap in my country. Now, evethough I`m not a fan of the "Wooden ships & Iron Men" kind of game (maybe some of you remember that Avalon Hill Board Game), I love the sea, its sounds, and vastness. I have read that Naval Action can be played PvE in Open World, and if you choose, PvP also in Open World. So you can sail, no help in knowing where you are (I love that!) litterally for hours. I do not mind not finding anybody for a long time, because in the real world is just that what happens, and when you do, the minutes to come are frantic and full of danger, which makes the experience even better. So, I guess what I have here is a simulation in a really big sea, open world, with real fisics for sailing, strategy, beautiful visuals and sound, and a weather that can sometimes be unforgiving. That`s quite a long list of good things. Eventhough its not the topic of choice I have been after in my small list of simulation games, I have this feeling that it could awake a new passion? So, back to the topic title, could help me make my choice and, under threat of life, politely ask me to push the button? Sorry for the extension of my post. Alejandro
Jon Allen Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) Push the button. Let the cannons roar. I really don't know what else to say. It's a good game, especially for an Alpha. It really does help to be into Age of Sail. The eras the history the battles the tech, the lifestyle at sea at the time. If you aren't into those things....I just dunno. I'm a big naval fan. Actually, that has not mostly been Age of Sail at all. I too have mostly focused on WWI and WWII. But I've picked up a few Age of Sail historical books now and then and I'm into it enough to appreciate it. A few books like Six Frigates (founding of the US Navy) really got me hooked on the era and the shipbuilding and the designs. A game like this then becomes a useful creative outlet for that interest. It also aids in the immersion factor. All the ships in the game were modeled after something that really existed. Some of them have quite interesting histories. Although I haven't experienced this much yet, I love the thought of getting into an organized sea battle, like a port battle. Me in my frigate or Ship-of-the-line, with a bunch of other captains, all sailing together to accomplish an objective. Tactics, communication, planning putting all those elements to work in order to see a port change hands from another nation to your nation. To raise the flag of your nation and change the map. Does that appeal to you? Edited January 24, 2016 by Jon Allen
