Kokerpiraat Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 The Niagara is unable to join Shallow water battles, while it's a shallow water ship. Is this intended?
raskolnikoff Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 it has BR equal to Cerberus and can participate in deep port PB
Kokerpiraat Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 (edited) it has BR equal to Cerberus and can participate in deep port PB (even if it says that it can't on UI) Well, doesn't make sense to me why it's able to enter the shallow water ports yet can't partake in the battle. Atleast 5 of us had a Niagara with us and went all across the sea for nothing. Edited January 23, 2016 by Kokerpiraat
SteelSandwich Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 shallow ports dont have access limits, entering is limited by the shallows in front of it. There are ports where 1st rates can enter shallow ports.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 it has BR equal to Cerberus and can participate in deep port PB As of the end of closed testing, Niagara had almost half the HP of Mercury, with no real apparent speed benefits (a slight edge towards Niagara). While I know it has the capability to carry large carronades, I'm not sure deep water only is the right choice for her given her HUGE HP deficit (nearly the same as Snow) - especially considering that she was a shallow draft lake ship. Perhaps Maturin can add some good remarks about this. Updated thread title to be reflective of the content. 2
LeBoiteux Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I guess her BR does or should take into account her HP and will be reevaluated some day depending on feedback about her ability to fight against frigates. I haven't tested her yet but I guess she deserve to go fast.
Prater Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 The Niagara is a lake vessel and was never meant to stand up to frigates. I would think in Naval Action that our shallow port battles most represent the Great Lake Battles during the War of 1812 in which the Niagara was at home. 2
LeBoiteux Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I guess her natural in game opponents are corvettes.
DeRuyter Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 ^^ Yes and other brigs. She was a shallow draft vessel and over canvased in comparison to British brigs like the Cruizer class brigs. 1
