Balsafer Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Theres not much players yet. Lets wait what happens when they add premium ships to buy while others, who dont buy them have to grind for them! Theres a reason that this feature isnt stated on their Store page. And theres a reason the mods deleted a thread on the steam forum where I asked what those premium ships are. And I bet there are reason for that general (public) intransparency. And if you believe that there will be much income from "vanity items" Im sure you also still believe in Santa Clause! Well, the premium ships will not be vanity anyway - they are ingame power bought with the customers wallet. (hint: The Yacht is not a premium ship - you cant buy it! It was a bonus for early adopters! Spot the difference!) much of City of Hero's income came from vanity items a lot of the income came from costumes people wanted there hero's to have, they did not give any special bonus's, this is what they plan to do with ships because people like to decorate or make there ships look neat and unique. Reason why your post was deleted is probably because they do not know yet what the ships are because they have not gotten around to it or even making them, or if you made that post a topic of its own its mundane and making forums a mess. The yacht has no add bonus it was for the people that bought the game before early access and for those that have been here since Sea Trials. But the Yacht is a good example of what premium ships will be equal or worse than player crafted ships with no special bonus for faster xp gain or money gain.
Capt. Rice Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 I reached the rank to use the Niagra awhile ago and tried using it. It is a pretty ship but it feel like its made of balsa wood. The ship lost over half of its hull from one broad side from a navy brig... so yea the premium ship are nice they are not pay to win imo.
SteelSandwich Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 euh..., what game you the impression the niagara is a premium ship? She is just a regular ship which was added to the game.
BlackAdder Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 euh..., what game you the impression the niagara is a premium ship? She is just a regular ship which was added to the game. Probably because it was in the redeemables section with the yacht, i would guess
poison Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I like how I looked through the guy who was slinging mud about NA being pay to win and couldn't find his review. ...just 11 negatives of 12 total.
horrido Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 That's the Steam "community" for you. Ignorant, misinformed mouthbreathers. There will be zero pay2win here. The devs have been abundantly clear about this for ages. They hate pay2win elements in games as much as we do. Wow. Nice community. The problem stems from the fact that the premium ships are not just cosmetic. They have infinite life. I've only about 20 hours into the game, but for me gold is hard to come by. The value of infinite durability is immense. They are selling ships with infinite durability. How long does it take to earn gold to pay for an equipped 3rd rate? Is it 2 hours, or 20 hours? If it's 20 hours then the pay2win argument has some validity. Telling people that premiums are only cosmetic is dishonest if it takes weeks of playing to replace a non-premium ship. Remember, for an early access game Naval Action is an expensive buy. The price of premiums is not known yet, but if they are expensive, you should see why people looking in from the outside are skeptical. This mess is entirely created by the devs. They could just say they are selling skins. That would be the end of the story. They are implying it (IMHO somewhat dishonestly), but they are actually selling infinite durability ships. I suppose this goes to what the definition of Pay2Win is, but it certainly fits my definition (and when it comes to my dollar, that's what counts). Don't want to grind for that shiny purple? Just give us your money and we will give you one! To an outsider, a 3rd rate looks very cool, and very powerful. In fact, with 20 hours into the game, I probably will end up having to buy a Premium 3rd rate. That fits my definition of Pay2Win, and I'm pretty sure I'm not alone with this. These ships could easily cost $20-30 each (who knows), and with the initial investment of $40, you can see why people are hesitant to buy. Dump the infinite durability, and the problem goes away. You can't have your cake, and eat it too.
LordBeer Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 The Admin said in his 1st post in this thread that 3rd rates and above will never be premium ships. The community decided on that awhile ago because that would be a pay to win scenario. They also said you won't be able to buy the best quality ships in game. You'll still have to grind if you want the best stuff. Where did you hear that the premium ships have infinite durabilities? I assure you the yacht only has 5 durabilties. If it sinks on it's last one, I'm pretty sure I'll loose whatever fancy upgrades, cargo, and cannons that are onboard at the time. Yeah, I can respawn one in a day (minus useful equipment like cannons), but it only has 5 durabilities. I can't just keep loosing horribly again and again without any penalty. While the yacht can get free repair kits, I have some doubts that the larger premium ships will come with free repair kits like the starter ships do. You're getting upset using only speculation and incorrect data to back yourself up.
Justme Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Dump the infinite durability, and the problem goes away. You can't have your cake, and eat it too. Problem is everyone has access to an infinite durability ship from the very beginning free of charge. IIRC the devs stated that there would be no high level premium ships.
Henry d'Esterre Darby Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Dump the infinite durability, and the problem goes away. You can't have your cake, and eat it too. Who is going to pay real money for a ship that they'll lose in 5 durabilities though? Larger ships will likely have longer reset times before you can get it again. In the end, someone has to pony up cash to keep the lights on and the servers running, otherwise you'll have a bunch of people yelling that they spent $40 on a game that's not online any more. 1
