It isn't actually offensive.....it's just a matter of time.....we are not living in 1800, so the best way to call us is simple: Spanish, nothing more, nothing less.

Just don't call someone specifically a 'Yank, Frog, Limey, Don, Boer, etc.. etc...' in the forum. As for RP purposes I don't see anything overtly racist or wrong with these terms if used in generalizations or to poke fun.

Then I guess I'm with Flip. I will continue to use it when it fits. We aren't living in the 1800s but we are "reliving" the 1800s so the terms used at that time are reasonable. You can call us American pigs all you want. If its in the context of the game and not as a real life insult then I won't take offense. I have thicker skin and politically correct "new speak" is an abomination.

I assure you that in real life, the US population doesn't go around thinking of the Spanish people as dogs or the french as frogs or the British as redcoats. Shucks if you were to ask the average citizen of the US where the Spanish are, he would point to Mexico.

 

There is a lot of role play in this thread as well as competition. Its all in fun. The trash talking, the stereotypes, the language. If anyone in this thread cannot handle that then she should retreat to other threads or a nursery. Lets have fun people and choose not to get "butt hurt" by every perceived slight of ones culture.

Id like to remind everyone that this is just alliance on certain guilds, not nations. It is stupid to post in game like this that whole nation is allied whit other when there still wil lbe inviduals who dont care about alliances.

 

Example we just sunk spanish trader yelling we are at alliance and he will start war on us, well i consider him as my enemy already because hes red and i cant use hes ports and i just got hit them day earlyer.

 

This will just create miss conlusions and anger.

What is going on here is a meta-game. It's been around before early access. We all understand that some minor clans won't agree and that non clan players will not agree. We like to role play on this and have fun.

Minor Clans typically don't have the clout to move the needle in RVR. Hence the larger Clans play out the meta game, with and against each other, here in the forums.

I love it because even though I know alot is RP, there are some very serious folks invested in "not losing".

The following is a report from the Ambassador of France for SLMFr to the foreign colonies:

Segments of this report have been withheld, while released portions have been approved by the minister of foreign affairs.

I received orders with my promotion to the Admiralty to lead am ambassadorial mission to Spain. In the process of doing so my vessel was intercepted by 2 USN ships on a search and destroy patrol. As we came under fire it became clear our relations with those disowned British colonist was troublesome. As my flagship and escort returned fire for their sails in order to run, we noticed a 3rd ship in command of the wind blocking our escape. I ordered are colors struck in an attempt to save my men's lives. My flagship was captured and the escort vessel was destroyed with all hands. As I watched with disgust at the wanton slaughter of defeated men against all rules of war and gentlemanly conduct, I over heard one of my men refer to me as ambassador. Promptly a haggardly looking man in a mismatched military uniform approached me, and asked me to confirm my status. Once my official rank and status was communicated the commander ordered that all canvas be hoisted and a heading set for manataca.

Once off ship I was escorted into a administration building and introduced to a man who dressed like those pink birds that are all over Spanish FL. He was sweating at an alarming rate, which showed he clearly was newly arrived to the gulf regions. A document, a pistol, and ink were placed before me. I was informed the document was for me to read, the ink for me to sign the document, and the pistol was for if I refused. As I read the document its gross nature and less then honorable subject sickened me. I was to do the following and authorize it for all of France:

1. Renounce claims to all ports in the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana, and FL.
2. Agree to rent those ports for a period of time determined by the US government, and on notice of eviction, those ports must be abandoned or they will be taken by force with all hands.
3. Revoke the non-aggression and economic treaty with The British Nation.
4. Revoke the non-aggression treaty with Spain.
5. Stop all conflicts with allies of the US.
6. Force all major French Clans to agree to these demands.

In return the US would agree to our neutrality and protect our ports until notice of eviction.

I told my sweaty negotiator that I was going to need some time to consider their demands.

An hour passed when a Capitaine in a Spanish naval uniform was escorted into the room. He was positioned like me and given the same dignified treatment. Once our jailers left I asked him who he was. He informed me he was Capitaine Sanchez and he was my diplomatic contact with Spain.

After much discussion on the subject of our current position and on our future dealing we decided to use the 2 pistols and quills to make our escape from the Americans. As we slowly made our way out of their camp we learned that this fleet was called Tattered Flags. We made our way south to a friendly group of natives who spoke Spanish. They informed us of the growing US oppression of their people and helped us make our way to a smugglers cove. We found a small sailing craft there and set across the keys to Cuba.

I am writing this letter to you from comfortable accommodations with the Spanish in Cuba. Details in a separate dispatch within this bundle will outline our new treaty with the Spanish nation.

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I will be departing in the next few days for my naval command. I hope they are doing well and that my first officer didn't let them have the run of the ship.

Yaaa...according to my information this part has been fabricated.  For #1 I emphasized in bold and underline what is most wrong with it.  The others are completely false.

 

Also, I will note that Nakorbc represents SLMr only and that Chustler is working with French Diplomats from the other clans.  I do not know of details on those relations.

 

This is the message I received from Nakorbc on Jan 31st:

 

Sir,

Can there be a dialog between us so that, for the time being, an arrangement can be reached where US and English speaking players wanting to play France can learn and grow their abilities? I know there is an opinion that our clan is just an extension of the RN, well I can assure you it's not. We are free to operate as an independent unit. Before the EA wipe I know SLMFr was a small group of 4 players. At this moment we are way above that and would like to continue this growth all while role playing in the LA colonies. I can make assurances on where we will not expand too, and at the moment we are focused on helping all these new players coming into the game learn. I have been around since sea trials and we both know the learning curve in this game is steep at this stage of development. Can we agree to these basic points?

1. US will stop sending roving parties west into the golf to attack or disrupt our player based shipping. In return the French will not act against your control of FL from Spain.

2. A dialog will remain open between us so if a conflict should erupt we can discuss how competitive it would be. Can't get much XP from low lvl players.

3. I will stand as an ambassador, and will facilitate a conversation between your US clans and the major French clans of SLMFr, EDR, MFR, and FL.

4. A dialog to discuss the extent of us growth into the golf and the growth eastward of the French.

I await your reply!!

I will bring this message to the leadership of TDA and we will decide on what is to be done.  I myself will support the position you have brought forward, however, I cannot guarantee it will be agreed upon by the others.

 

I must say that I am completely unaware of the US fleets that are attacking you, it is not from anyone in TDA.  Tattered Flags might have a fleet there, as might other US players.  If TDA agrees to your proposals, we will attempt to get Tattered Flags, Boston Sea Party, Excalibur and the others on board and to stay whoever is acting in aggression against you.

 

To which he replied:

I spoke to the leadership of TF. They are the ones who are attacking and blockading our ports. They make a claim that we ganked a USN ship but the claim is from an event 3 days ago. I can tell you with 100% accuracy that no French capitaine could man anything above a snow. The claim makes no sense and a simple gank doesn't warrant 3 days of blockades against players of ranks 2-4. We want the ability to role play. Compete and enjoy the game in its historical context. Once the game has progressed and there is enough rank 5-6+ players then some states of war make sense. This current aggression by TF is not a honorable or a good way to play. If everyone plays as the US like they want then you've created a pve server. We managed to get a state of neutrality for 48hrs out of TF. I'm hoping you would be more will to help them see their personal issues with Charles Caldwell don't mean they can force new player away. This game just got released and no one will want to play if they can't progress because some people conduct diplomacy with a gun to diplomats head.

 

And further, I found out from Sam Adams in Tattered Flags that it was Thomas Pain (Johny Reb) who had been "ganked" by French in that area and that is when they sent a squadron there in response.  So, if Nakorbc was today attacked by US players, remember, that our Diplomat Thomas Pain was first attacked by French players in that region.

 

US players certainly aren't trying to make people quit the game.

I have been talking to EDR, MRF, and FL.. they all know about our conflict with the US and have supported our decision to announce war with you'll.  Unless I have been purposely mislead by all the other officers, and leaders I've spoken to.  If this is the case and I have misrepresented the other clans (which I was told on several conversations that they agree with us) I will publicly apologize for my error, because I am a man of integrity.  I will even reset this stance if this is wrong.  

 

On another note, the US is going to sweep across LA anyway, and I have been told that we need to leave.  Is this not the case?  TF had informed me that they made plans with TDA to take all of the ports in LA, and that France could announce a retreat from all those ports.  You'll even gave us the possibility to pull are resources out of those ports.  how many other was can you say, get out we are coming in?
