Over on the Steam forums, this community is firing on all cylinders. Reviews are going up, discussions are alive on the community hub. Generally it's everything you'd want in a Steam unveil in terms of the public reaction.

There is just one thing that I have seen (more than once) that makes me wince, and I felt the need to say something.

Please lay off the people who are complaining about the price. Answer their questions, address their concerns, absolutely. But I've seen responses that get kinda aggressive (or sarcastic or snarky).

$40 is a lot of money for some people. In fact it's about half my yearly gaming budget (unless I get gift money or something). I work two part time jobs as a college instructor. I love what I do but I don't make a lot of money doing it.

Also, $40 is a lot for what is basically going to be seen as an Early Access (which makes them think Alpha build) indy title. There will be resistance to that. The people who bring it up feel like they have a legitimate gripe. Many of them have been burned by EA games that didn't pan out. So be it. If they have questions about the state of the game, be kind and answer them. If they are just complaining, wave goodbye and move on. Leave that for the Devs to perhaps note, as they are the only ones who can have any impact on the price of the game.

The public will see trolls for what they are. But what doesn't help our cause is members of the community getting into aggressive arguments (or getting snarky) over this particular issue. That sends the wrong message, it gives the vibe that maybe the people who are playing this game aren't so nice, or that they are rich elitists or something. None of which is good for us. I know the people here are generally quite pleasant, mature and generally good people, so let's be that. Please don't let the money complaints get under your skin. We're better than that.

I agree, dont feed the trolls. There are a lot of salty people on steam who have been burned by early access and dont know how to constructively express that or research before they buy for that matter.

But I digress.

Steam discussions can be a real cesspool some times and many people seem to feel entitled to buy Early Access games for the price of a bag of peanuts, but it's our job to convince them otherwise and make them see this game is worth the price tag and that it of course is going to entitle them to the future of the fully fleshed out game. But if it doesn't work then it's just best to leave the discussion, as some people are just there to be whiney dicks who think if they cry about game price, it will suddenly be made cheaper.

Agree, unfortunately now it's released on steam, the situation is only going to get worse with little decor or respect, though I did chuckle at this. 8)

lol, make the most of the positivity, it never lasts long no matter how good the game is. 8)

Well you got to love the huge amount of hours he played.

And yeah i do understand the people that where burned with buying some other alpha or what not games but its not normal or nice to downgrade our game. All in all its still in development its not a finished game.

There is a tendency to push for easy gratification with majority now, not good for a few of us, but I think were in the minority now.

If you don't do research before buying its their own problem.

EvalMonkey connection -

Legend has it that during the Napoleonic Wars of the early 19th century, a shipwrecked monkey was hanged by the people of Hartlepool, believing him to be a French spy! To this day, people from Hartlepool are affectionately known as 'monkey hangers'.

Thought maybe it was where you were born. o7 no worry, carry on.

well there is some truth in that, but also consider, most reviews of this nature can be initial knee jerk reaction to the mindset that many have in our modern age. Experience has shown (me) that many of these guys go on to have a full and healthy relationship with the game, most don't of course, but some do, and they are the guys you want playing your game. Let's face it, the game style and pace isn't for everyone.

The funny thing is that people like you actually think that they are better than the people you call "whiney dicks".

i agree with ya 100 % but i got to defend some ofthe guys posting aswell. i have seen alot and i do not get bitchy very fast but even i , after reading a few post was worked up. it is not the posts i believe , everyone is entitled to their opinion and by god i have served to protect exactly that but show some respect towards others. thats what gets ya worked. i'm getting OT. like i stated i totally agree with you on the money aspect but a few of those threads r stated really disrespectful . not against the game but against the ppl behind it and that gets me worked up and i am pretty sure alot  of others to.

I agree with the OP in that as testers we should keep our cool and try to answer the concerns as best we can.

These steam post happen all the time when a game releases, especially on EA.  Most of these post are just trolling.

For the people who aren't trolling and are legit complaining about the price, I just don't understand.  If you can't buy it, then either save up or don't buy it.  It really just boils down to that.  Each dev team have different price models and things to consider for setting a price.  You can sell less at a higher price compared to many copies at a lower price and make more profit for example.  Many niche games use this model.  If the devs didn't choose the right model (I don't think that btw), then it's their company, their salary...not ours.  We have the choice to not buy if we think it's not fair.

I aggree, everyone has a right to express his opinion. And this community should be adult enough to handle some people who don't like Naval Action itself or the asking price.

some of us have lots of for this game and when people bad mouth it without doing research just gets on our nerves.  One dude thought this game was developed by wargaming.. lol

Very well stated Mr. Allen.

You are all ambassadors of the game.  Let's be helpful and friendly and point out all of the great things you get for the money, and skip the negativity.  :)

I agree Mr Darby. It would serve NA better if negative comments towards criticism of the game were expressed here (in the forums) rather than externally. Don't feed the trolls.

And name calling just drags us into the muck.

*shrug

Everyone who owns and supports NA could avoid replying to those posts and some random guy who doesnt own the game would rush in and defend the EA price. Lol.

Imo OP has good intensions with this post but has underestimated the internets ability to pick a fight with itself even when its not involved in said thing :P

There is a world of difference between somebody who posts to the effect that they think the game looks interesting, they would like to try it but find the price tag a little steep, or have been burned by early access in the past... and those who post 'OMFG WHAT PLANET U ON DEV1?1?1? UR GAME R GUN FAIL'. I have little sympathy or time for the latter.

Ignore Whiners! They aren't worth your time, rather post and bump good threads on the forum so that the whining gets drowned.

Naval Action: 93% approval on Steam

Fallout 4: 80% approval on Steam

Only The Witcher 3 gets a better rating % out of 20 top games that I looked at and does deserve it frankly.
