So I understand how the PvP PvE server works, xp transfers etc but what about EU vs NA server?  Are accounts replicated on each server?  I have no idea which server will be the most highly populated but don't want to waste a month of game time before I realise I should have picked the other server.

At the moment there are only two servers:

PvP located in EU

PvE located in NA

unless something has changed in the last 12 hours. You will probably find most people on the PvP server.

Ahhhh thank you, I saw this http://status.shipsofwar.net/ and reference to 2 pvp servers somewhere, cheers

The reason your seeing 2 pvp server's on that link is because Game-Labs have 3 servers ready for EA now. PvP One (Active) - PvE One (Active) - PvP Two (Inactive/In reserve).

A good sign considering that they are about to release on steam. There's a big chance they will need both :)

Edit - I'm suddenly unsure if PvP Two is actually Inactive or if it's Active like the others. And erhm, i'm too busy grinding to log off and check! :P A good sign none the less i'd say!

Something has changed in the last 12 hours.  There is now a "PvP Two", hosted in the US.  This is very, very bad for all the US players who played in Headstart on PvP One EU.  We were already underpopulated, and now the coming EA horde is going to be completely fragmented between the two servers.  I really hope they reconsider these regional servers.

This needed to be up at Headstart, and needed to be announced ahead of time, as it's a slap in the face to the US players.

This would be a relief, do you have a source for this information?

I find the prospect of playing on an NA PvP server far less interesting than what we have now on PvP EU.  Our gaming group would probably also stay on PvP EU to represent the US if forced to choose.

since i play as USA id say it may be counterproductive to play on the NA server - less enemy -

true, but which server will be used by the several servers? Will the eu head for us or visa versa?

We need reserve servers to support spikes in online.

Because XP is saved across servers it does not matter where you level up initially. If your server is full you still want to play somewhere - we give this option.

We believe it is better option than Error 37(can't login game sucks posts)

Eventually it will all even out and people will stick to servers where they have most fun.

XP is saved across servers but what about ships and gold? If pvp one is full, do I need to start with the basic ship and no gold on pvp two? Right now it makes little difference but in 6 months starting from scratch (other than XP) will stink.

just exp and rank nothing else, don't think crafting exp is shared either.

I'm feeling torn by the server situation. For me it would be about 100 less ping to switch to the PvP NA server. So if I wanted to make that move,  now would be the time to do it, while I don't have a whole lot of gold/ships.

But at the same time I'm worried that it won't be nearly as populated as the other one.

Also I'm playing US this go around. I imagine a lot of US nation players are feeling the same conflict. So I'm inclined to go wherever they go. I'm worried it'll divide the US players in a weird way.

In general, what is everybody doing? Are you sticking with PvP One or switching to PvP Two as your primary PvP server?

I wish we had known PvP two was the "NA server"... now things are going to get messy.  Some of you are calling it a "reserve" server but that isn't what they are calling it, its the NA server.  Our group worked on the EU server and had no idea that there was a NA server coming.  Now we will probably have to start over again, as we are mainly NA players.

Kind of disappointed all my head start assets are stuck on the EU server.

Why not offer early access a one time option to move our stuff to the server we want to play on?

Thats a half truth if I ever saw one. Crafting XP, visited ports, money, ships do not transfer. People will stay where they started.

NA server will be dominated by US Nation and EU server will be dominated by Brits.

You really need to make the second PVP server a EU server as well and name it Overflow. This is coming from someone based in middle of NA btw.

There are plenty of North American players that play as USA who are staying on the EU server, as the ping difference has no noticeable negative impact on gameplay and they want to remain with the EU players. They shouldn't have called them EU and US servers, should have just been PvP 1 and PvP 2, in my opinion.

Server situation is terrible for new players. Id recommend making all assets available for server transfer or label the servers less cryptically to allow it to balance out on its own.

Define... cryptic.

There are two PVP servers - one on each continent. Logically you'd pick the one closer to yourself, or whichever friends play on. Or the single PVE server.

When you first choose a server, as a new player, you are indeed given the choice between two servers(PvP*), but nowhere does it say from which region the server is located - I learned after I started in PVP1 that is was located in Europe (for example). The only place I found that PVP2 was a US server was here in the forums by an unofficial source. Unless this has changed with an update in the last 12 hours - this was my experience. I don't think anything is that wrong - it's early access, after-all - just a suggestion.

Cheers!

Difference in latency, that's how. I agree that a (US) or (EU) tag could be added for clarification for those who have never touched a multiplayer game before.
