Hi all,

Like many, just heard about this in the last 24 hrs and thinking of pre-ordering off the official site rather than Steam.

My question is:  difference between ordering from "devs" vs Steam is the bonus Yacht ship ...apparent value is $20.

So...what happens when the inevitable happens and the Yacht gets sunk?  Is it gone for good or is it like some kind of premium ship which you get to keep for good?

Thats the only deciding factor between purchasing here now (better for devs) or on Steam (far more convenient) with such a short time to go with release on Steam, bearing in mind I wont get time to play for a couple of days anyway.

If it's a confirmed permanent bonus then that will sway me to purchase right now, otherwise wait.

Thanks.

Just to clarify and make a bit clearer.

I have read if you lose everything you go back to a Cutter which is fine.  But if I pre-order with Yacth ship and lose everything can I still use this nice looking Yacht ship.

Thanks again.

You can redeem a new Yacht once every day, so there's no risk involved in getting sunk in a Yacht.

While it's a very pretty little ship and it's nice to sail around in it just because of its exclusivity, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's an entry level ship and most of us will trade it in once we find better ships.

IMO, I would rather wait for the Steam release if having access to the Yacht is your only deciding factor.

Thanks Hendrik I've per-ordered anyway as I like the look of the Yacht.

PS...sorry if my replies seem out of sync I need my posts approved by a mod possibly because I am new.

Thanks again for the replies.

Edit:  It's the exclusivity that I am happy to pay for but not if I lose it perma after being sunk....which is inevitable ;)

The game might also get more expensive on steam... devs said on early access it will either be 40 usd or more.

Hahaha, speak for yourself - I'm just itching to get back in my trusty Mercury for some sterncamping goodness.

I must say I was a bit confused for a moment while looking at my post. Was actually wondering "why the hell did I like my own post?"  :D

I sincerely hope that not all premium ships will be handled the same way as the yacht. My experience the last few days has been Ramming Action, not Naval Action, with such super-authentic Age of Sail highlight as yacht flipping over another yacht and cutter mounting yacht in apparent attempt to produce hybrid cutter-yacht babies. Free ships with free repairs degrade overall quality of gameplay significantly, and would seem to offer a pathway to "pay-to-grief" that is almost as bad as "pay-to-win."

Maybe perishable officers could address this to some degree in the future, but I think above a certain experience level, players should not be given zero cost ships, but instead some form of exclusive access to premium ships that doesn't turn them into go-to suicide vessels.

I agree, premium ships should just have normal repair(heck maybe even a bit higher due to them being special)
