Coming back after Sea Trials

Good evening to everyone

 

I own this game since first opening for Combat Sea trials, but unfortunately had to take a break for school since Open World released.

 

I tried to follow what happened in the meantime but i'm surely not up to date.

But I really want to get into this again now that it's launching for Early Access on Steam.

 

Therefore i would like to aks you a few things

 

1) Were there important changes since Sea Trials? I know about new dmage model, fires, and night battles.. I think I also saw something about new UI?

 

2) are there new nations? If I remember correct there are Britain, USA, France, Spain, Holland, Denemark and Sweden (and neutral of curse). Can someboy confirm please?

 

3) Game in releasing on 19/21 Jan. I will therefore have to choose a faction. Will I be able to change it after, without deleting my Char?

 

4) Were skills / careers introduced?

 

5) Is advancing trough ranks still with exp gained from kills on Open World?

 

6) New Rank gives me more crew and therefore i can man a bigger ship, but there isn't a direct limit on shipe size I can take, correct?

I am also going to look soon for a guild to join, but first i will probably have to decide what nation to pick

(if someone is already intrested, i speak german, italian a reasonable well english, playing during evening (europe) but on irregular basis (not every day)

FIrst of all welcome back:)

 

1) As you have mentioned, the damagemodel has recieved multiple changes during the testing phase. UI compared to Sea trials is completely different, except for the in-battle UI. Unlinke ST you can only repair in battles up to a small percentage and the repairs are limited to 1 of the hull and 1 for the sails.

Since you have not played OW yet, i would argue that the whole Open World is a big game changer for you:) 

 

2) The current nations are : Great Britain, Verenigde Provincien, Sweden,  Spain, Denmark-Nörge, France,US. You also have the pirates as a"nation"and i am not sure if the neutrals will stay in after EA release.

 

3) no, the only way to change a nation after creating a character is turning pirate, all other nation changes have to be done by deleting your account/character and start over. Unless something will change upon EA release offcourse.

 

4) It is an Open World, you and only you decide if you want to be a pirate, a trader for a nation, a shipbuilder or a fighter:) those "careers" are solely up to you and not bound by mechanics. No skills for as far i know.

 

5) You rank up by gaining xp, xp is gained by fighting battles, this can be done on the Open World by finding enemies or traders to fight, or in the sorta ST arena that is called Large or Small battles. Not sure if xp gain by the arena will be still there upon EA release, but it is for now:)

 

6) You will suffere undercrewed penalties if you sail a ship that you do not have the proper crew for. Offcourse it is entirely up to you if you find these undercrewed penalties acceptable or not. So technically there is no limit on what ship you can sail, not now atleast but it is far from recommended. Also they might re-introduce the honour kills system making you sail a certain class of ship to progress through the ranks. Not sure if the HK system will be back on EA.

 

 

The Dutch have a nice German group going and we have i believe a clan from Switzerland but Brogsitter has more info about that i believe.

It is more or less as I expected then, only sad thing is, I have to choose a nation within 2 days...

Not that easy without knowing how many population has each nation.

 

I guess GB and USA will be most populated, as well as France and spain.

 

I'm looking for something not too big, but not too small...

Sweden is probably going to be too small (even though i've read that german people will be mostly there)

 

GB and USA i don't want because they are going to be standard nations for new player and will be overpopulated (as was britaing in PotBS)

So it remains france, spain, dutch and denemark (but it heard denemark will be used from russians mostly?)

As far as populations go pre wipe, the biggest by far is British, then pirate, then USA, and I'm not sure how the other nations wash out after that.

at the moment, Spain has the least players.

France has a good number but not too big.

Dutch, we may be around the side of France maybe a bit smaller or bigger

So you have french and dutch are not too big or too small, be warning, people speak a lot of french in France nation chat.

 

the underdog right before wipe are Danes, Sweden and Spain xD

 

All if this information will change when the EA hit.

Bei uns Schweden sind natürlich auch Schweizer dabei. Wir versuchen ja hier, deutschsprachige Spieler zu sammeln.

Habe nur angst dass schweden als nation zu klein sein wird und ich, als "gelegnheitsspieler", nicht wirklich zurecht kommen würde..

Schweden ist ja auch eine der schwierigsten nationen (wenn es soetwas gibt) wegen uncorteilhafter anfangsposition

Schweden ist nicht einfach. Aber wer kämpfen will, der ist genau richtig. Wir sind ja schon ca. 80 Spieler und wachsen noch. Beim Craften werden Resourcen natürlich problematisch, weil wir nur neutrale Ports ansteuern können und später wenn die Port-Battles losgehen, müssen wir dagegen halten. Aber die Karte ist so groß, das wir immer genug Rohstoffe hatten und nie richtig Engpässe erlebt haben. Nur neue Spieler rund um Gustavia finden meist nur überteuerte Preise vor. Das ist nicht so schön. Aber ist das wirklich bei den anderen Nation anders? Alle "großen" Nationen werden ihre Häfen genauso schnell leerkaufen (weil viele Spieler) und dann auf entferntere Häfen ausweichen, genau wie wir....

Also komm zu uns und mach eine Schweizer Garde auf!!!

Ich würde mich auf Verstärkung aus der Schweiz sehr freuen

 

nun meine kurze Ansicht zu Schweden und der HRE:

 

Schweden ist sicherlich nicht eine der einfachsten Nationen, jedoch finde ich gerade deshalb Schweden spannend, da wir aber jetzt viele Member haben und der Wipe im Laufe ist halte ich es für gut schaffbar einige Städte zu erobern und auch halten zu können.

Ein Hauptgrund für mich ist auch HRE die sich als sehr Hilfsbereit und Spassfördernd herausgestellt hat und zudem halt mit der deutschen Sprache deutlich einfacher zu Handhaben ist.
