Kokerpiraat Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 In which year does the game take place exactly from a historical standpoint? Just curious.
SteelSandwich Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 between 1700 and 1820. No specific year.
Kokerpiraat Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Anything past 1795 wouldn't make sense. The Dutch republic ended at that time.
SteelSandwich Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Nor is sweden pre 1785, Nor is USA pre 1776, Nor are pirates after 1750, as we have them ingame. Dutch republic might have ended at 1795, the nation and it territory still existed as the batavian republic.

Dutch republic might have ended at 1795, the nation and it territory still existed as the batavian republic. Yet the game refrences to the United Provinces/Dutch republic. Not the Batavian Republic. And pirates still existed so perhaps it's safer to say 1785-1795 ish?
Arnaud Arpes Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) I would really prefer the game change France into the Kingdom of France, and not the Empire/Republic of France. I would love to fly this flag on my ship instead:If the game takes place from 1700-1815/1820 or so, I feel that since the majority of that time period is under the Kingdom of France, it would be best. I'd prefer not to sail under the commoners tricolor flag. Edited January 13, 2016 by Arnaud Arpes 2

I'd prefer not to sail under the commoners tricolor flag. In fact, the french royal flag before 1790 was plain white flag, white being the color of the Royalty. Nothing to do with surrender of course as the modern use of the white flag as a surrender / peace flag only dates from the Hague Convention of 1899 when the french flag was the tricolor one : blue, white and red. PS : about the history of the white flag and its successive meanings, see : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_flag Edited January 13, 2016 by LeBoiteux 1
Kokerpiraat Posted January 13, 2016 Author Posted January 13, 2016 Well the game claims to be historically accurate. But it seems very difficult to answer this question properly.
SteelSandwich Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 It is because the game is not aiming to be a specific year. (moderator, please correct me if that is an incorrect statement) It is a game ought to represent the Age of Sail. A timeframe in history from abouts 1700-1820. Furthermore, the goal is to become as realistically possible whilst retaining fun elements of a game. If you come across things that are not historically accurate, feel free to make suggestions or contributions in the designated threads on the forum.
Prater Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 A good amount of ships are post 1790. I think it is safe to say it is mostly centered around the Napoleonic period.
Holden Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 (edited) I too would prefer to have the Kingdom of France flag in game. The purely white one was used most often, but just to make the obvious distinction from the 'Surrender' flag, the fleurs-de-lis could be used instead. Edited January 15, 2016 by Holden 1
Brigand Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 The best information we have on the time frame is: We definitely stop at 1820 mark yes. +-5 years.Initial model line up range from 1680 till 1820.Going earlier than that might make line battles look strange (with old galleons alongside modern 2nd rates) In the Player selected ship 2015 - Suggestions-thread, @admin mentioned: 1600-1830 hard limit, 1690-1790 preferred. Where many feel that 1830 is stretching it.Ships currently confirmed to be in the game range from 1715 (Ингерманланд/Ingermanland) to 1820 (Меркурий/Mercury).The time period which is most plausible, given the current line-up of ships is 1775 - 1790, while allowing for quite a lot of both earlier and later vessels.Hope this helps,~Brigand
