Poacher886 Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 Hi, I had a look at this sim a year or so ago and was instantly interested, being a game i would have designed decades ago given the skills and know-how, as an avid fan of the Silent hunter U-boat simulators, this was 'the other' type of ocean going sim i always wanted. I love open worlds and i like a slow pace (typically) of sim where its easy to immerse ones self and role play....whilst having a few beers or course!. I have skimmed through some forum posts and the site itself, but have quite alot of questions, where im sure the learned among you could answer with ease and save me alot of time trawling through the forums..... 1. I dont see this for purchase on Steam? I read you have to purchase from this site and then get a key to download from Steam...how is this possible if its not actually on steam? and would said purchase enable me to receive all future updates automatically on Steam? 2. What is the current state of development, i.e is this sim alive and kicking and do we expect a more polished version in 2016, is it being enhanced / updated regularly? 3. Is the open world PvP only or are there AI and players or is it either one or other? 4. Is the open world a real map of the area or a fantasy map with similarity's? 5. In the SH (silent hunter series), it would literary take weeks to sail from a french port to America as you would expect, this of course could be played out in full or time compressed for the more impatient...is this the case with NA are the distances / time required realistic? 6. Again in SH you could go for days without seeing a single mast, then suddenly cries go out a smoke appears on the horizon..this was its intense attraction, the peace and quite (near bordum) then all hell breaks loose!, is this also the case with NA 7. Clearly you cant go into ports get off you ship and wander around a village ect, so how does the port mechanics work? what are there purposes? 8. Is there a general point to the sim by which i mean outside the experience..are there missions or an empire to build? 9. How do you know who your enemy is? is it based on known wars and your allegiance?, indeed can you be a Pirate? 10. Crafting? how does it work, what can you craft? 11. Can you aquire other ships as part of a fleet?..and control them 12. DO you need correct crew numbers and can they be killed on board through shot and shell?....is this visible? 11. Is there a captains cabin i can sit in and watch the sun set as im sailing along, for role playing / immersion puposes? i.e im not always stuck out side the ship in one position. 12. Is ammunition taken into account, i.e can i run out of ammo. Can i steel it from another captured ship...can i capture a ship and how? 13. Is a day night cycle available and is it accurate to real time? 14. Can your and enemy ships ACTUALLY be damaged in a visible as well as noticeable way? I could go on and on, but i think this gives me enough to get a feel for this sim. Thanks for any answers. 1
Anto Posted January 3, 2016 Posted January 3, 2016 (edited) 1º It is on Steam, but its sort of ´´hidden´´ once you get the key it goes to your steam library and you get the updates via steam. 2º It is being worked on and being polished overtime, we do get updates every couple of weeks with new and imrpoved mechanics (and new glitches aswell ) 3º ATM we have 2 servers, a PVE One, with only human v AI. And a PVP one, where humans fight against other humans and AIs alike. 4º It´s mostly a real map, but it has a few touches here and there... 5º It will take you sometime to go from: lets say Florida to Venezuela, 4 hours or so. The time it takes you its compressed so you dont take an entire month to sail from point A to point B. 6º It depends, if you sail close to the coast you will see a lot of ships, but as you go into open sea, ships start to become few, and you can go on with out seeing a mast for so time. 7º Right now you can get into port and trade, buy, repair... a number of mechanics, but you cant walk around it. You can get inside a port to buy cannons or wood or materials to craft and so on. 8º Sort of, if you work for with a group of players you are able to capture ports and add them to your nation. But nothing else for now, is still fairly recent. 9º Right now, if you join any nation other than the neutrals, you are at war with everyone, so you can engage at will. As neutrals, well the name says it all, you cant attack the nations, but you can join battles in one or another side, and you can always attack the pirates. (As a neutral you cant be attacked by other nations but pirates, if they do they will turn into pirates). Yes, you can join as a pirate right from the start. 10º You can craft ships; but first you need the materials to craft the parts to craft the ship. Depending on the materials wich you use, it will alter the stats of the ship, like the speed and so on... 11º You can unlock the camera, but there is no captains quarters per se. 12º Ammo its not a problem at this point in time, you have unlimited ammo. 13º There is day-night cycle, but its not accurate to real life, its much faster. 14º Yes, when you damage a ship you can see the damage in some ways; as an example, you can demast enemy ships. Hope this helped answering your questions to some point, and sorry for the bad English. Good luck! Edited January 3, 2016 by Comandante Antoñanzas 2
Poacher886 Posted January 3, 2016 Author Posted January 3, 2016 Thanks very much for your time and answers, this is certainly shaping up to be a very attractive sim. I hope they don't stream line it to much. My initial 'want' would be that a free to roam (around your ship) first person perspective is added, so you can enter cabins/ captains room etc and generally wander around the ship at will. I would much prefer an immersive first person experience than a third person arcade style. Would be great when just sailing for hours to feel a part of the ship. Apart from that i will continue to watch this very closely.

The game attempts to be realistic wherever it can, but it is definitely not a simulation game. It is a fun sandbox game, that tries to give a realistic feel to naval battles. 4
Easyseal Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 It would be pretty cool to be able to walk around the ship and upgrade things, or be able to personalize the captains quarters. I could think of a million things but you risk scope creep.
VonVolks Posted January 5, 2016 Posted January 5, 2016 It's awesome. If this is your style game, I urge you to get it.
