Is it still in development or what?

http://www.navalaction.com/blog/ has not been updated since March last year...

Are the devs still active or did they give up on the project?

No major updates to the game since the open world as far as i can tell. The only updates to our clients have been small patches.

It has supposed to have come steam for a long time now but no signs of that happening at this rate...

Myself and many others had high hopes after Seatrials. But since the openworld it has been disappointing to say the least...

I find myself coming back to these forums every couple of months and I notice that a small but loyal minority keep these forums alive but there is little progress with the actual game itself. Thousands of people bought this game but theirs only ever like 200 people online its not hard to figure out why...

It has changed i do not think all the changes are for the best but there have been a lot of good changes made. I think the issue as stated in other threads is the AI fleets, Port battle timers, Home Fleet defense and the overall urge of most testers to run and hide or use overwhelming numbers to win. there are numerous threads about this so i wont start it here again but that is the single biggest issue the player base exploiting some game mechanics that need to be worked out.

I think your idea of more content would be more ships. Fortunately, instead of focusing on adding in more ships, they are focusing on adding in new features and smoothing those that are already in the game. I would rather have a game with ten ships and 50 ways to enjoy each ship, than a game with 50 ships and only a handful of ways to enjoy them.

Sir Madoc, lots of improvements has been done to the game since OW realise. You can easly track it by checking patch notes in the OW subforum. The devs and community are working together to polish the game before the Early Access on Steam. It is your choose to join us or wait till EA realise, but for sure the development has never been in idle mode, we are moving in the right direction.

Oh - it is very much alive. The developers have been working on balancing the game and it's a long and thankless task - but steady progress has been made

Have you played the game lately?

I would if there was something fun to play. I log in from time to time and see the same 200 people online. I check if anythings changed and leave disappointed . Where is the action, new gameplay etc..? It's like a completely different game to what I originally backed, far more boring than Seatrials. In fact most of the people that originally buyed the game during seatrials have probably forgotten about the game.

Where are the new features then? I don't see any. Or none noteworthy enough for them to mention them outside of this forum... The Dev blog hasn't been updated since March 2015 and their social media accounts are inactive which either means major developments have ceased or the devs have simply given up on the project...

nothing to add.

look into the forums and youll find what your looking for.

I checked that link and it confirmed what I previously thought. The updates to the game since OW have been mostly bug fixes and "tunings".

Not really. i log in now and then but just don't find it fun. It's like a completely different game compared to when I originally backed it.

Ehm, what exactly then have you backed that they didn't deliver? What exactly do you miss?

As for what changed since OW: how about crafting, trading, missions port conquest, a whole new shooting model, a whole new boarding system, reworked armour and speed classes, ay fairer engagement rules, not to speak of the Pickle, the Mercury, the Niagara, the Rennommee, the Belle Poule, the Cherubim, the Essex, the Ingermanland, the 74 and the Pavel. I call it a very, very fulfilling year.

Ok then ask yourself this. If everything is all as well as you say and everything going as planned then...

1) Why is it the same 200 people online when 10,000+ people buyed the game during Seatrials?

2) Why did Game-Labs stop updating the devblog? http://www.navalaction.com/blog

3) Why are they inactive on social media? https://twitter.com/navalaction

4) Why is Naval Action less known than other upcoming naval games in the same genre?

5) Why is the game on steam but never coming to early access?

To me it seems as though the devs don't seem to care about promoting the game or it becoming a success. Maybe it is because they already got the money from those 10,000+ people I mentioned earlier?

I can tell they don't care about the game because they make so little effort...

I'll leave you with this quote...

You're ignorant and have nothing to say. Go away.

But you have nothing to say about the facts that I listed... Maybe that's because you know what I am saying is the truth and it easier to call someone ignorant than argue with the facts!

You've still not answered on what features exactly did you expect from them to introduce in this time. You also haven't commented on the specific list of changes i provided.

About your question, it's simple, the game doesn't care about advertising, never had. As far as i understand the devblog was mostly a way to give insights untill open testing started, now you can basically find a lot more of this type of content by searching for admins posts.

Most people i know tend to not play this game not because they dislike the project, but because they were part of several hard wipes and now wait for early access and the last wipe to happen. As to the online count, it was even less, reaching no more than 100 players basically for the last 8 months. However, as far as i know, even at the beginning of Sea Trials with "thousands of players" the online count never reached more than 400ish, and secondly, since they started to sell the game again (notice, without any advertising) the online count trippled within a few days and tends to reach 350 players every day during prime time.

And as for steam early access, well, it will probably start this very months. With reviews and in-steam advertising hopefully contributing to a massively expanding playerbase. While i know a lot of indy games that dwindled quickly after early testers access, as someone who witnessed most of the OW developing cycle, i have to say that it is not the case here. The game is developing at a pace quite typical for an AAA MMO, with a long testing phase that is due regarding the aspirations of the devs.

Do you think the public or potential steam customers are going to be so inclined to search through admin posts to get answers? This a fundamental floor in the Devs thinking. If I'm honest I think they are clueless about game marketing and they should hire me as the PR guy. Social media and other means of communication are important in this day and age and word of mouth simply won't cut it...

Well, they made you give them 40 bucks. So they clearly know something about marketing.

And with steam serches, autoadvertising, best lists e.t.c. it will be way easier.

P.S. You still haven't answered my questions.

Yep and I feel like I was duped. I bought the game because of seeing how fun Seatrials was and this OpenWorld is boring as hell compared to that!

P.S I would hazard a guess I'm not the only one that feels this way but I am the only one that is not afraid to say it!

Isn't Sir Madoc the person who got banned for a week or two for trolling with a similar post a few months ago?

Yes I believe it is.

It amuses me that the OP complains about lack  of content, but when asked if he has played in order to see new content, he states "no, because no people" (which is false might I add"

If you would both actually play the game as well make some sort of attempt to search through the forums, you will find your new content; OW, econ, PBs, Fleets, weather systems, just to name a few, all of which would have been easily observable when playing.

You also nag about the focus on "tweaking and tuning" as if that isn't content in itself; naval combat is the centerpiece for Naval Action, so it should come as no surprise that this aspect will be fine tuned as much as possible. The OW and others are simply the opening acts, naval combat is the headliner, and the devs are making sure the show will go off without a hitch.

  • Advertising? No point in advertising a game if it doesn't work or isn't fun to play. To be honest, I would much prefer the devs focus 100% on developing content and, well, developing the game than advertising and unfinished and unrefined product. Also, the FB has been pretty active. And so have these forums.
  • What other Age-of-Sail naval games? This is an incredibly niche genre, in which NA has no comparison (the only other game that could be remotely considered competition is Winds of Luck, which as a finished product does not begin to stand up to NA in its early dev. period. So no worries there.)
  • If you would have reed the forums or FB, you would know the game is slated for EA sometime this month

Mr. Drummond has pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Anyone who has actually been participating in the game and the forums over the past four months has seen all manner of features, tuning, changes, and other development advances.  The game has never made a claim to be anything other than a "sandbox" open world game, and those who purchased during Sea Trials were warned of that fact on the purchase page and repeatedly in the forums.  This was never going to be an arena game, and it was not persistent or successful as same.

As to social media, while Twitter hasn't been updated, there have been a number of Facebook posts, including a recent post where it was announced that a limited number of additional keys had been made available.  Meanwhile, we have nearly weekly patches which are doing what an Alpha should do - tweaking and enhancing the core gameplay features.  The claim that the project has been abandoned, that the Developers are doing no new work is, on its face, completely untrue and not supported by even the thinnest amount of logic.

Your claim that the Developers have taken everyone's money and run is libelous and further claims of this nature absolutely will not be tolerated.

Steam Early Access was promised in the winter, and it is currently slated for mid-January.

If you have feedback about the game to post, please do so in the correct feedback thread.  If you do not have constructive, truthful, respectful feedback, the door is right over there.  This thread has run it's course and serves no purpose - I'm going to lock it now.
