Maxer der Grosse Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 (edited) Dear Game Labs, I have almost gotten seasick from the viewing angle changes that take place during battle, when one changes from a shooting mode to a viewing mode. The slightest movement of my mouse extremely exaggerates scene viewing angle changes. Additionally, I have not noticed any changes to the situation, after I adjust the sensitivity of my mouse in the Windows settings between the highest and lowest sensitivity. Example: During battle, sometimes there are enemies on all sides of your ship and you need to shoot left, right, back and front as quickly as possible. Currently, one has to click the right mouse button once to aim one side of the ship and then click the left mouse button to shoot that side. Thereafter click the right mouse click again and endure the exaggerated viewing angle change while attempting to select the correct side to shoot. Click at the wrong moment and instead shooting off a broadside you are stuck looking out the back of your ship as the enemy vessel sails by the side without a scratch. It is truly frustrating. Instead of using the mouse to select the side to aim, we could use the 6, 7, 8, and 9 keys to select sides of the ship? Then click the left mouse button to shoot. It would speed up the whole process and eliminate the irritating sea-sickness caused by switching between aiming and non-aiming modes. Thanks Edited October 12, 2015 by Maxer der Grosse 2
Crankey Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Proposed this myself some while back to switch between broadsides by key stroke. Hopefully will be acted on 1
admin Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Proposed this myself some while back to switch between broadsides by key stroke. Hopefully will be acted on well the 6-9 keys are taken and a lot of players don't have a numpad. which keys do we use for that?
maturin Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I too know the pain of numpadlessness. But keys to select various gunnery modes would ultimately be nonessential. Those with silly Mac keyboards could just rebind them to Ctr-1, Ctr-2, etc. (Every serious PC developer lets players modify keybinds with Ctr, Shift and Alt.) However, I would rather see the numpad select various ordinary view perspectives, such as foretop, mainmasthead, quarterdeck, forecastle.
Maxer der Grosse Posted October 14, 2015 Author Posted October 14, 2015 Yes, I am in agreement. The various views mentioned above would be fantastic to have, especially the main masthead. Still, a solution needs to be found for quickly shifting between firing modes of the 4 sides. Providing us with the possibility to reassign key functions could be a short-term solution. In the long-run, a permanent assignment of key functions including firing your guns should be made. It will make the process of learning the game for beginners, easier. cheers!
'Sharpe Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 I would actually disagree here about quick shifting between sides, as I think the need to pan to each broadside adds a good deal of immersion and challenges one's situational awareness, especially if you play battle instances from only the ship's deck (as I think many of us do). It's unfortunate if this movement to each broadside causes motion sickness for some - maybe a snap to broadside button could be an option if it's on a slight delay, so as not to give a speed advantage over people still panning the view manually.
