David Fair Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 CSA Lt. Col. John Lane picture from 1900 (Formerly Major John Lane). http://www.fold3.com/document/225619947/ Best I could find so far.
David Fair Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Husserl, This is a descendant of Willis Jefferson Dance. You might be able to add facial hair and get in the ballpark? I've found Willis J. Dance's signature and his last will and testament; but, no picture. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1394&bih=774&q=%22willis+jefferson+dance%22&oq=%22willis+jefferson+dance%22&gs_l=img.3...1994.8984.0.9465.24.18.0.6.0.0.92.1383.18.18.0....0...1ac.1.39.img..9.15.1143.5daxX1Nn9_o#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=_KyegJ0Ms19NfM%253A%3BBexGIYMw24oadM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmediasvc.ancestry.com%252Fimage%252F73c00bb9-53b9-4f09-96e8-41cd9a173c37.jpg%253FClient%253DMCCManager%2526NamespaceID%253D1093%2526MaxSide%253D160%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Frecords.ancestry.com%252FWillis_J_Dance_records.ashx%253Fpid%253D133182235%3B114%3B160
Husserl Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Thanks for the info. He is not Garnett but General Pender. Lane's old image is a good alternative -our artist makes miracles- if nothing better will be found. In any case I really appreciate your help!
David Fair Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Husserl, Sorry for the misdirection. Here is the Garnett picture that was intended. Note the caption: There is debate as to whether an identifiable photograph of Garnett will ever be found or was ever taken. It is possible that this photograph is actually a cousin, Robert S. Garnett. https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1394&bih=774&q=John+j.+garnett&oq=John+j.+garnett&gs_l=img.3...22595.41786.0.43029.42.20.13.9.12.0.178.1729.18j2.20.0....0...1ac.1.39.img..4.38.1862.o-gdVwzC574#facrc=_&imgdii=DK0Yw6GtJS-R7M%3A%3Bt9mqRz44BVcn8M%3BDK0Yw6GtJS-R7M%3A&imgrc=DK0Yw6GtJS-R7M%253A%3B9SOFpn_5b8ZhuM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.mikalac.com%252Fciv%252Fpho%252Fgarnett.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fwww.mikalac.com%252Fciv%252Fmain60.html%3B316%3B354
Husserl Posted April 1, 2014 Author Posted April 1, 2014 Yes, we know the case. We have already used that one for BrigGen Richard Garnett.
